#8 pick Rolando McClain signs with the Raiders... what will be the impact on Alualu?
Now we get to find out how long it will really take to get #93 into camp. WIth McClain signing at #8, it definitely helps set the ceiling and could mean we are now very close to having him signed. HOWEVER... this is the Raiders we're talking about. It will be very interesting to see just how much ridiculous kaysh they threw around this time. Did the Raiders do yet another ridiculous Raiders move and throw all signings out of whack, skewing the slotting system and thus sending agents into high gear? We all know Gene and the Jags negotiating team isn't going to break on negotiations, but what precedent did the Raiders set and how long will it now take to get agent and team on the same page and Tyson into practice? Time will tell, but I hope this signing does more good than harm to negotiations.

I thought.....
Only the last two days of practices (prior to the scrimmage) were open to the public?
I don't believe so.
They are all open until the scrimmage if my memory serves me correctly.

A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that McClain signed a five-year deal worth $40 million that included $23 million guaranteed.
Last years’ #8, Monroe, received 5 years, $35.4 million ($19.2M guaranteed)
question
Does position have anything to do with the disparity? $4.6 M and 3.8M guaranteed is quite a spike in terms of TVM.
BUT, it sounds to me that they would offer a little more than “Monroe money” to Tyson and wouldn’t necessarily be out of the ballpark. I guess you have to look at Oakland’s recent history of fiscal responsibility to see if McClain is overpaid.
If position is factored in
I would think it makes the numbers even worse. LT is certainly a more premium position than LB.
It’s an increase of 13% over the Monroe contract ($7.08M → $8.0M avg.)
Of course it’s possible that there is a lot of back loading on the contract so we really don’t know for sure.
The $23M guaranteed is a bit much as well.
That's what worries me
And with that there’s no way the Jags get him signed until a couple more guys around them sign. And it’ll probably take 9 & 11 or 12 to get a better grasp of the range.
Just what I was waiting to see...
Raiders doing ridiculous Raiders things… Laughable how they conduct business. Gee Al, I have no idea why your team sucks. Oh wait, yes I do.
WTF IS THE INTERNET?!?
If he doesn't really
care about money, especially a couple million here or there then it’s actually fairly smart. He pays his draft pick more than he should and he gets 2 things accomplished. 1 he gets his draft pick in on time. 2 he throws the system off around his draft pick. And whats bad for your competition is good for you. And because other teams are doing their jobs in not overpaying(to a degree), the market still stays “relatively” static. But like said before, you have to treat your money like Monopoly money.
I guess so...
But Al gives all this money away… and then wants it back. His team tosses the cash out there and then get pissy when they get the wrong guys out there who are now obviously over paid and then sues them over the contracts.
I guess it would be all positive to do things that way, but it seems to me that he plays with monopoly money at first, but then it’s real money when these guys bust or piss him off.
WTF IS THE INTERNET?!?
+1
Thats what I’ve been thinking. The biggest thing for him is getting his new starting middle backer in camp on time. Al has made some boneheaded decisions this past decade, but I think he has the Raiders on the rise again. Call me crazy, but all I’m sayin is wait three years.

Yeah
Considering where they have been the past five years, around .500 this year would have to be looked at as rising.

The AFC West are all crazy
Tebow, the former University of Florida quarterback, agreed to a five-year, $33 million contract with $8.7 million guaranteed Thursday afternoon, a source told NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi. The Broncos announced the deal with the 25th overall draft pick, but they didn’t disclose terms.
That can't possibly be right
I would think that most of that money would be unlikely to be earned incentives. Tebow would have to play like Peyton Manning to in order to earn that money.
You can't reason with unreasonable people.
I wonder if the $33 M
that was originally reported is it’s max value with a lot of incentives. like if he makes the pro bowl or something.
Or if it was just bad reporting and completely wrong from the start.
I've heard that is the absolute max WITH tons of incentives
Most of which unreachable unless he not only starts, but performs at pro bowl and playoff winning caliber. $8.7 million guaranteed like cuffs said below
WTF IS THE INTERNET?!?
from ESPN.com
" Tebow, the 25th-overall selection in April’s draft, signed a five-year, $11.25 million contract with $8.7 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
According to the source, the contract’s max value is $33 million. "
