QB Comparisons--2009 season
My friend and I recorded these stats off of ProFootballFocus pre-draft 2010. I don't know if the stats have changed since then but i was explaining to this particular Colt-friend of mine that Garrard wasn't that bad and he was slightly impressed afterwards. This takes Manning, Brady, Brees, Garrard and Roethlisberger to the stat sheet. I'm not on my computer so i don't know how to make it a spread sheet. Regardless, the stats should spur an interesting discussion.
I can't get the columns to turn out well, sorry.

Interesting Garrard had the fewest drops

did you know
David is ranked above tom brady on PFF for overall QB. now this is mainly because of his insane number of rushing yards but still….
These stats
paint a much clear, accurate picture. Garrard is not nearly as good as Brady, Manning, or Brees
I still stand by it
If Garrad checked down receivers like he should, he would be a much better quarterback
Garrard would be a better QB if theylet him play to his strengths (short pass and he midrange all the time and run freely) They forced him to try and be a gunslinger-in-the-pocket
Waber-Jaguar
I agree
His biggest weakness is when he has to hold on to the ball and go through his progressions. When he gets rid of the ball quickly, he’s pretty damn good.
You can't reason with unreasonable people.
True
But there are plays when he does have time and he just holds the ball too long.
You can't reason with unreasonable people.
Statistics are like bikinis...
They show a lot but reveal nothing.
What I see is that he has not progressed as he should at this stage of his career. To paraphrase Denny Green, he is who we thought he is.
Without getting into a classic case of “paralysis by analysis”, you can blame the line, but Ben’s stats nullify that argument. He has the fewest drops but the lowest completion percentage. Tells me he’s scattershot… he panics. We knew that.
I think fumbles would have been a nice stat to throw in there as well as maybe a 3 and out percentage, a red zone percentage stat (TDs/FGs/No points/turnovers). Those are the areas (that have been covered by this site) that I believe keeps Garrard in the mediocre category and if he improved them, could put him in the solid category.
But I am sure he knows that this is his make or break year.
What I see in those stats also is that we played from behind quite a bit last season and could not establish the run as often as we may have wanted to.
nice comparisons
good work on laying out the stats. I think if you threw in a Delhomme/Moore, Collins/Young, Hassellbeck, and Anderson/Quinn with Garrard you’d get a very close spread
i appreciate it
if i get that bored, we may have a part 2
And all those who look down on me I'm tearing down your balcony
