Jacksonville Jaguars: Roster Moves
Today the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they have placed linebacker Freddy Keiaho on injured reserve (concussion) and signed linebacker Alvin Bowen.
Linebacker Freddy Keiaho suffered a concussion and has been sitting out practices for a few days. The Jacksonville Jaguars today placed him on injured reserve. In his place, the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed linebacker Alvin Bowen, who was waived on August 17th.
Bowen was a 5th round pick out of Iowa State in the 2008 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. Bowen suffered a knee injury prior to the 2008 season starting and was waived/injured and placed on injured reserve. In the 2009 season, Bowen was released in final cuts and signed to the practice squad, where he remained for only 16 days before being released again. A few days later Bowen was signed to the Washington Redskinspractice squad and brought to their active roster late in November of 2009. He was released after only one season signing with the Seattle Seahawks only to be released later on.
Bowen is likely purely a roster spot addition to have a body at linebacker. The injury to Keiaho however opens up a potential roster spot to an undrafted rookie like Kyle Bosworth, Aaron Morgan, or Jacob Cutrera or potentially a veteran like Teddy Lehman. Keiaho was likely to make the roster for depth as the 5th linebacker and his special teams play.

Keiaho on IR is a major setback
After Allen the Jaguars has just guys at LB. The Iwuh cut all of sudden looks not okay to me…
Survey to everyone:
Who are your other 2 backup LB candidates besides Allen?

If they put Keiaho on IR because of a concussion
I’m thinking they weren’t expecting to keep him anyway.
Otherwise you’d give him time to get healthy. Once he’s on IR you can’t bring him back this year.
That was my first impression also
If you’re not going to keep him, might as well ensure that you can get him into camp next year and not give him up to your competition.
Don't they have
… some IR deal where people can be activated after 7 weeks or so? Is someone put on IR now automatically gone for the entire season?
IR is permanent
You’re probably thinking about PUP, but he would have had to be placed on there before training camp started.
Complete toss up
I would almost say Gilbert and Wilson who they just brought in because they’re both great ST guys. I guess we’ll see in the next two preseason games who gets the most reps and does the most with them. Cutrera made some plays in the Philly game and Lageman mentioned him on the radio the other night, but who knows right now? Lot of what ifs with that position and that’s why Vic is so adamant on them addressing the position next year.
WTF IS THE INTERNET?!?
Besides Allen
I would say definitely Gilbert, and probably Aaron Morgan in my opinion. He is said to have some pass rushing ability from his days in college, so it may be a reason to keep around and see what he looks like in a few years. I like Cutrera though. I think he is a lunch-pail type player that could contribute on special teams.

Kyle Bosworth is the type
that wont set the world on fire, but he’s steady and gives you good plays if he’s on the field long enough.
The only linebackers i’m hearing some buzz are Cutrera and Morgan. If im not mistaken, Morgan showed some good things in the pre season opener against philly. I think these 2 are good candidates as backups, although its clear the team isn’t too pleased about this position.
Whatever happened to Julius Williams?

Hype?
He made the team last year didn’t he? That’s about as good as you can get from an undrafted rookie.
Yeah, he did make the team. He barely saw the field and had 8 tackles. Big deal. Last summer Vic was comparing this kid to James Harrison. This year, he probably doesnt make the team.

He looks like James Harrison
However, Harrison is a 3-4 OLB, which is probably why Williams is having trouble making the team…he’s probably in the wrong system.
Harrison got
cut about 3 or 4 times if I recall. Personally I was never really high on him, but I thought he was a find nonetheless, considering the help we needed.
