80 to 75
On September 4th teams will be required to reduce their 80 man rosters to 53 players. However at least 5 players will not even get the chance to be on the roster that long, as rosters have to be down to 75 players by Aug 31st. If you get cut by the 31st, you may find another roster, you may even find yourself on the Jaguars' practice squad. However, in both cases your chances of being in the NFL at all take a big hit if you get cut during the first cuts.
Here's my list as to who might be cut:(I'll probably make an update after I get to see the Tampa replay)
Teddy Lehman - He's a vet that hasn't even seen the field much, much less made any plays.
Alvin Bowen - Hasn't shown the athleticism or hard hitting ability the rest of the group has.
Trevor Harris - If he's not cutting it, you might as well find someone to replace him with a future waiver wire QB. That is, if you still need another camp arm.
Kommonyan Quaye - He's young and he may still have a bright future, but the role he's meant to fill is stacked with competition.
D'Anthony Smith - For obvious reasons will be put on IR getting the team down to it's required 75.
I have to tell you, before I set out to make this list I had no idea how hard it was gonna be to cut the roster down just 5 players. Obviously, that is a good sign as to where this roster is going in terms of talent.

listening to pregame – Secxton and Lagerman believe one of the 1st 5 will be D’Anthony going to IR.
Looking ahead to final cutdowns – I think last night’s game may have sealed the fate for Troy Williamson and possibly Reggie Nelson. These are two guys that I beleive can be very accurately labeld as busts – we need to stop hanging onto busts.
I’ve been pulling for Troy Williamson, but I officially gave up on Troy after that drop. I guess it is just in his nature. Then he makes that great catch down the sidelline to try to make it up to me, and I had to just say, “Talk to the hand, Troy. We’re done.” ;) Out with Troy and in with John Mathews.

um, no………Underwood or williamson i think……underwood mmight have the edge because of age and emergency PR ability and ST, however williamson is actually faster in game and has more experience, so guh
MSW, M80
Dillard as slot?
Osgood is fast like williamson but no hands….williamson is the same
KashOs
Williamson-Underwood……..
Waber-Jaguar
I was thinking about
D’Anthony Smith shortly after I wrote this. Haven’t gotten a chance to update it till just now.
Sept 4 is cutdown to 53 unless the team has a time machine. hehehe
I wonder what happened to Ko Quaye? I thought he had good reports coming from camp. Maybe it was just OTA’s. D’oh for Ko’!
Sean
Pax Armis Acquiritur
He made a couple really good plays vs Philly, but has been pretty silent since then. He’s a PS squad at this point.

KO QUAYE MAKES THIS TEAM
especially with D’Anthony Smith’s injury. even if he doesnt he will definitely make it to final cuts and be on the practice squad but i think he makes it
Ehh
I think Clarence Denmark goes before either Williamson or Nelson or Ko. He simply does not have an NFL calibur skillset. I look forward to him playing for the Sharks next year.
My 5:
Caussin
Denmark
R. Thomas
Smith – IR
R. Wilson
I just think there are way too many holes on defense to cut guys. Williamson, you can MAYBE get a late rounder 6th or 7th from a receiver desperate team like Minnesota and Nelson, every coach thinks they can get something out of a guy drafted that high; hell, maybe we can get a 3rd or 4th if not a trade.
Those guys are on the hook when we get the final 53.
If you listen to Del Rio
on Nelson after the Tampa game, I don’t see him going anywhere.
DG is the best we have and help is not on the way. I realize he's not perfect, but I feel a lot better about him at QB than I do the O-Line, DB's and LB's ability to cover a TE.
we're so thin
he’s better than nothing
and hes tackling in the running game has improved
And all those who look down on me I'm tearing down your balcony
I think Denmark and Williamson are gone. We already know what Williamson is able to do…or not able to. And we have young receivers with a lot of upside…Underwood brings same kind of stuff to the table.

As far as cutting
As far as cutting the roster, I found myself forcing a 53.
My original roster was 49.
I would probably
go with a 51 man roster. Just because the weakest positions on the team already have depth, however weak it may be too. Besides, Gene Smith really like his players. And he’s starting to run out of bad Shack picks to get rid of.
But I could see 4 people being exchanged for players on the waiver wire/exchanged through trades.
What I'm really surprised about is
that I was mostly right about who to keep on the DL. Early after the draft I suggested that we just go 3 deep at DT and keep a swing guy between DT/DE. I really wanted to keep Mincey back then. Lo and behold we went deep at DE and thin at DT like I had hoped we would. The only thing I got wrong was we got Leger instead of D’Anthony Smith. But they are practically the same player anyhow.
