Are we not "FANS" of the Jaguars?
Why have so many fans lost faith in the Jaguars? Many teams in the league have been much worse over the last 5-6 years, yet our fans seem to take it the worst. Is this because the NFL is still "new" to them? Do they really not understand the differences between the NFL and college? This is not the University of Florida. You do not recruit in the NFL. You do not play little unknown schools every other week of the season. You DO NOT blow your opponents out. This is the NFL. You build a team via the draft, and find short term solutions to holes via free agency, yet so many casual fans believe it to be the opposite. I was reading my face book wall today and a friend from high school who is currently a fire fighter in Jacksonville had this posted on his page.
"Practice at Everbank stadium was delayed after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the ground. After a complete analysis, forensic experts determined that the white substance, unfamiliar to most of the players, was in fact, the goal line. Practice will resume this afternoon after police and homeland security decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again."
Now he is a Jacksonville city firefighter. He puts his life on the line for the citizens of this city every day. The Jaguars are here for people like him. This should be his team, yet this is his opinion after the 2nd game. Yes this is somewhat funny and it did seem to be somewhat truthful after Sunday, but why have our fans lost faith so quickly? We are 1-1; we beat a comparable team in week 1, then lost to a superior team last week. Isn't that what is to be expected for the 2nd week of the 2nd year of rebuilding? Yes I said it rebuilding; whether you like it or not this team is in a rebuilding period. Shack Harris ruined this team with poor drafting and poor FA spending. It took him years to put this team in its current position and as such, it will take a few years for Gene Smith to fix it.
Shouldn't we as fans support this process? I am a diehard fan, and will be until the end. I understand that anything more then 8-8 this season would be a huge overachievment. Gene needs at least 1 more draft to turn this roster around. As true fans, we need to support this endeavor. Please stop the criticism and bad-mouthing. The team will right the ship. Lets support them to help out.
Trust me there are plenty of people in the country criticizing this team. I really do not think the "fans" should be doing it as well.

Sadly
… a ton of people seem to react just like your friend. I’m not sure how much of a minority/majority they are, but they are certainly loud and speak often.
I guess the best thing you can do is try to “educate him”.
Living here in Indiana I think as of late,
my peers at work give more respect to the Jaguars than some folks in Jacksonville do. I honestly dont understand it. Overall, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been a wonderful team to watch over the last fifteen years. I wish that the nay-sayers would just keep their opinions somewhat more muted. I wish that the people who visit this site were the more vocal majority of the public opinion of the team.
Whatever the outcome, I support the team win or lose as do so many others. I see bright things in the future if the team stays where they are and continues to build the way they have been the past couple of years. GO JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS!
I love this post.
You summed up my feelings perfectly. As fans, we need to support the team – especially during a rebuilding process. We are headed in the right direction, let’s stay loyal through these tough games, the rewards when we start winning consistently and challenging fore a Super Bowl will be sweet.
You recycled a joke told about the Cowboys
They’re 1-2 as well.
Now blogging on the OTHER sports in Orlando: http://www.sportcluborlando.com
I found myself more pissed...
at bad mouthing Jaguar fans than Eagles fans. Support the team! I promise your Sunday would not be better without them!
