QB Trent Edwards, released by Buffalo on Monday, could be claimed by the 49ers, according to a report by the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora. Edwards played at Stanford, and the report said the 49ers would be awarded to the 49ers if they want him because Cleveland, Detroit and Carolina, the only other winless clubs outside of Buffalo, have not placed claims on him. The fourth-year player threw for just 241 yards and one touchdown in his first two games, both losses.
