Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin Hangs Up On Jacksonville Media
Typically on Wednesdays, the Jacksonville media will have a conference call with the opposing team players and staff. This week, from what I gathered on Twitter the Jacksonville media was speaking with Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey and then head coach Mike Tomlin. Well, Mike Tomlin got a question he apparently didn't like and hung up on the call.
Someone (I don't know who, not Vito Stellino though according to Tania Ganguli) asked Tomlin about the Jaguars 2007 match up with the Steelers in Pittsburgh in the playoffs, a game the Jaguars won. Tomlin responded by saying, "I understand that might have been a big game in Jacksonville, but that's old news." Tomlin then said "Anybody got questions relative to this week?", paused, and then hung up the phone while the next question was being asked.
Now, coaches have hung up before when they've gotten annoyed with a line of questioning, but to do so after a single question? That's kind of a jerk move by Tomlin. If it was old news to the Steelers, why did the question irritate him to the point of hanging up on the media?
You mad bro?

I like Tomlin a lot.
That’s the kind of coach I’d want here. Young, fiery, passionate, and football savvy.
Whats does this have anything to do with the article

Are you seriously bringing up that one fluke playoff win?
Tomlin: 46-23 W-L, 5-2 W-L in playoffs, 1 SB won
Jack: 66-67 W-L, 1-2 W-L in playoffs, 0 SB won
Did you not see I put 2007 , not his while carrer

He has been an emotional wreck...
Since his girlfriend, and track teammate at Columbus University, was killed by Remy the white supremacist at the end of Higher Learning.
Fidelis Ad Mortem
Pretty good movie...
Got a hot, young Kristy Swanson as a bisexual, Ice Cube being awesome, Rappaport as a hick who becomes a white supremacist, and Omar Epps as the naive athlete on scholarship. All set on a college campus. Then Rappaport gets a gun and kills a boatload of people at the end.

Higher Learning
..is the title of the film..and Yes, he looks exactly like Omar Epps LOL. And don’t forget about the young Tyra Banks who was cast as his girlfriend. Epic movie:

GRRRRRRRRR I'm so angry!!!!!!
Non-story as far as I’m concerned. He’s right, the 07 game is old news no matter how awesome it was.I could care less who he hangs up on.
Fact is the Jags have Pitt’s number more often than not. I’m hoping for a typical Jax Pitt matchup, hard hitting and close.
+1

It is such a non story
I don’t care what Omar Epps did today. I’ll only care what he’ll do on Sunday

He mad.
Oh look my tumblr, where you can find all my photoshops and other crap
Sanity is for the weak.
unfortunately it is a big deal in jacksonville
because we have nothing else to hang our hat on…and we seem to talk about that win all the time
meanwhile tomlin won a super bowl the next year – i’d probably be pissed i had to relive that game too since he actually accomplished something after that
I agree with you
This reporter shouldn’t have asked this question that early in the interview. They should have asked the questions that matter for the game.
I agree you.
You should not think about your past wins, you should always focus about your future wins. Thats the mindset of a good coach like Tomlin have. Belicheck even teared down the superbowl champions banner just not to make the pats complacent.
I don't blame him...
I’d hang up too. What kind of crap is that, asking about a game 4 years ago? Really? Wow Jax media, way to go. Big deal, so we beat them twice on their turf, what does that have to do with anything present-day?
The only think that beating them twice on their turf means for Sunday....
is it will be number three!
It IS a story...
Because coaches don’t do that. It shows a bad side of Tomlinson that he rarely exhibits.
It’s also a story because that win got JDR and Garrard their extensions. In a way, that win shaped the franchise – we are still affected by it.
Fidelis Ad Mortem
Shouldn't the Jax media...
be asking their own team’s people those kind of questions then? Why would an opposing team’s coach care about how our organization has been affected by a single game?
Oh Boy...
Somebody in Jacksonville just pissed off Omar Epps!
He realized that he knew what illness was plaguing
the small child in Dr. House’s care. You’ll have to excuse him for his abruptness.
i was at the game in Pittsburgh last week and on the way home, they played his media post game interview on the radio and he didn’t really want to answer any questions. The local radio guys were fed up with him asking if they had to keep playing his interviews on the air because he always seems uninterested.
He's not uninterested
He just plays things close to the vest and doesn’t like to say things that will fuel another team. Every pregame conference and every post game conference are exactly the same, so I hardly watch them. I only catch them if I want to hear an injury update faster than twitter will tell me.

If I remember correctly
He had made a few ‘rookie’ coaching decisions in that game…
he did and he learned from it.
"Franco made that play because he never quit on the play. He kept running, he kept hustling. Good things happen to people who hustle."
Interesting...
A coach who learns from mistakes, and then improves upon them.
Are you listening, Del Rio???
Fidelis Ad Mortem
He was done talking.
I have to do it all the time. It’s an ordeal to get off the phone with some folks. If I say bye, it’s not “hanging up”.
Karate chop
Asking that question was bush league
I could maybe see asking about that game being relevant if it was the last time we faced the Steelers, but we faced them in 2008.
Don't Shoot Me
For defeatism, but I really like Tomlin as a coach. I love the way he runs that team and I think young coaches are a great thing for a team.
I’ve said before I want to keep Jack.. I stand behind him. But if we did unfortunately make a move, I’d want a guy similar to Tomlin.

This article is misleading
It doesn’t mention that Tomlin did answer another stupid question about the game four years ago. Tomlin answered politely how tough it was to watch David Garrard running on that fourth down play. Still another incredibly stupid question was whether the Steelers sent in a tape of a holding call. The conference call was unbelievable and finally Tomlin had enough. Four years ago, really? Question after question?

Sure they were stupid questions
But just answer them. Hanging up is a dumb overreaction.
Especially when he was about to receive a different question.

Tomlin couldn't know that he was about to finally get a legitimate question
Keep answering them after two polite answers and a plea to finally get a grip? The headline of this story shouldn’t have anything to do with Mike Tomlin. The real headline here should be, what is the obsession with the Jacksonville media about a good playoff game four years ago? Does the media reflect the fan base in continuing to live in 2007? Why? How can anyone ask whether a tape was sent in to complain about a no-call penalty four years later? These are questions and discussions I would like to read on this board, not whether Tomlin was rude in reacting to stupidity.
