king james in jacksonville??

Ok. Go with me here. Lebron James is talking, whether seriously or not, about wanting to make an attempt at playing in the NFL. We all know his freakish ability on the court and he claims that he would want to be a touchdown maker. At 6'8" and 240 lbs, with other worldly jumping ability, what would be the chance that he could be a specialty end zone wide receiver? Obviously, this is a fun question and only somewhat serious, but...why not? What would be the down side of bringing him in for the cost of what I would assume be undrafted free agent money in order to see if he could do something in practice? And if he does, and with our woeful red zone offense, wouldn't it be interesting to bring him in during a few red zone plays to at least draw what I would assume be double coverage and maybe try lofting a jump ball up there for him once or twice? And I've never been a "sign someone because they'll sell tickets" guy, but with plenty of tickets out there and with two home Monday night games ahead, it is pretty hard to deny the national draw and intrigue that James would create. Then again, it may be hard to drop Cecil shorts to the practice squad.....

haha

But for reals, why not? Let’s hear some reasons why the stakeholders in this situation (Wayne, gene, Jack, Alvin Brown and Jacksonville people) would be against it?

by DocHolliday on Oct 15, 2011 9:35 AM EDT reply actions

why not

he already plays for miami so its only about an hour or 2 away so and if he can prove something he would be like a Calvin Johnson. having similar jumping ability and hight he could even be a deep man cause lets be honest if he is fast enough and can last a couple plays its gonna be hard to get physical with a 240 lbs basketball star with what maybe a bigger jumping radius than johnson. it sure as hell wouldn’t hurt and would be fun to see.

Miami is only about an hour or 2 away? Try like… 7-8 hours.

If you think he could be a "Calvin Johnson"

You are an incoherent arrogant dumbass…..

Real question is

how is a guy who’s never won anything possibly called the king.

They guy was scared to get hit when he played football in high school

And complain about getting fouled “hard” by the wizards of all people, What makes people think he would even stand a chance on a NFL field..lol

Its an hour flight away. Saying he won’t play doesn’t pertain to the question. If he were really serious about playing (which I said was a giant ‘if’), then again I ask, why not?

How easy would it be to drop Cecil to practice squad, have Thomas return pints like he should be, then have him as your 5th wr that only comes in the game when we’re inside the 10yd line? Shorts and LeBron have the same receiving stats right now anyways.

and from the city and Wayne’s standpoint, think about the money and free advertising. It would be like Jordan going to the barrons. Give him a shot and if he catches a pass or two great and if not he’ll be going happily back to basketball anyways.

Because a superstar in one sport

will be satisfied being a 5th WR in another? Even if it’s for a year, it’s not going to happen.

Its not like he’s going to distract our team in a negative way. The team has already been distracted by garrards release, mccown disaster, talk of Jack getting fired, and a 1-4 record. I think LeBron might inject a little fun and life into a team that’s pretty frustrated and depressed. Imagine the team captains doing the pregame baby powder thing after the flyover with LeBron on MNF.
you guys know that would be sweet.

he better not ask for an absurd amount of money. he’s great in basketball. but this is basketball on grass.

Doc, STOP IT. You are ridiculous for thinking about bringing one of the most gifted athletes in sports history to Jacksonville. After all, what if he ends up being a stinker? We have way too much on the line this season to risk the move. After all, we are in the thick of the playoff hunt at 1-5. He is also asking way too much money (the league minimum) to play.

Signed,
