Report: Jaguars TE Zach Miller Headed To Injured Reserve
The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to place third yeard tight end Zach Miller on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, according to a report from Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union. Ganguli reported the news on her Twitter feed a few moments ago. Defensive back T.J. Heath will take Miller's spot on the 53-man roster. I imagine however, the Jaguars will sign another tight end at some point.
Miller injured his shoulder in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints. On the season, Miller had 4 receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown. For his career, Miller has only missed five games but he's been a constant on the injury report. He's been hyped as a "Dallas Clark" type tight end for the Jaguars, but has yet to live up to that label. He was selected in the 6th round by the Jaguars in the 2009 NFL draft. For his career, Miller has 45 receptions for 470 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Calling a 6th rounder a bust is absolutely ridiculous
Everything we’ve gotten out of him to this point has been gravy.

2 first round picks? Really? The Bengals got paid!

depends what they do with them
They have the potential to be very good for a very long time. Only thing holding them back is Paul Brown’s son.

Alfie you really think the raiders got a deal?
Do you think carson is that solid of a QB? or even has the desire to play anymore?
by CoachCowherPlease on Oct 18, 2011 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions
I see Alfie's point
If the Bengals get 2 first rounders, then it likely means Palmer guides them to the playoffs and hits targets, such as passing yards, TDs, Pro Bowl, All Pro, etc.
Helps the Raiders for the immediate future (2-3 years) and solves their quarterback problem.

Its either a 1st and a 2nd- or 2 -1st
either way I don’t see it as a good deal for raiders, now for the bengals it was a homerun!

so if they don't make the playoffs this year and have their QB in place for the next 4 plus years, it's not a good deal for them?

I wont disagree
but it is a high price and risky transaction, its like the reaches gene smith does in drafting, if it hits you are a genius, if it misses, you are an idiot! very interested to see how this one turns out, to me carson is a big question mark, with an attitude!

The incentive is that it turns into a 1st
If the Raiders go to the AFC Championship this year or next year. If they do that, then it has to be considered worth it.

pathetic at this point…….you cant even call someone a bust who cant stay healthy for more than 1 game straight. At least sims walker had 1 good year.
MILLER
MILLER …….simply put like this " often injured " . Doesn’t matter how much talent , it ain’t no good if you can’t stay on the field . And the BENGALS got seriously paid ……I mean com on … A first for Carson and possibly more …….he isn’t the same QB he use to be but the BENGALS broke the bank …..the raiders are idiots
L F J
For as much hype as Gene has received.
You’d think his picks would be able to contribute more.
-Britton locks his back up before gameday and gets “demoted” to LG.
-Eugene Monroe gets injured, doesn’t look like top 10 pick, and here comes a UDFA that appears to be pretty good at LT…watch out ?
-Zach Miller is always hurt
-Mike Thomas is meh
- Alualu and Knighton are solid but neither are spectactular
-Dillard just started getting more playing time
-Cecil Shorts III, the next Jerry Rice, can’t run routes, hasn’t caught a single ball, and is awful in Punt returns
-Austen Lane is what the 5th DE on the depthchart?
Cox has played well in spurts but gets injured often
D Anthony Smith probably won’t be the same after his injury.
I honestly can't name a single player who has come back to full strength from an Achilles tear.
can you?

I'm sorry...
but it’s to the point where these comments are not even worth reading anymore. Is that really the best assessment you could come up with?
I didn't say...
it was inaccurate, I just asked if that was the best assessment he could come up with. It seems to be the thing around here to give opinions that provide little insight.
- So what Britton locks up his back? What does that have to do with Gene? Then he gets ‘demoted’ to LG because of the unexpected play of Whimper and the bad play of Rackley. I think we all believed Britton would be moved to guard anyways, so I don’t see the knock there. Yeah, I admit he hasn’t lived up to a second round selection but if he becomes a staple on the line, then that second round pick was well spent.
- Once again, Monroe gets injured, but what does that have to do with Gene? I’ll agree that you want more from a Top 10 pick, but if he isn’t our LT, then who is? And how does the performance of an UDFA have anything to do with Eugene? If anything, it could only be a good thing.
-Zach Miller is always hurt. One more time, what does that have to do with Gene? It’s not like he could predict it. As Joe said, he was 6th round pick, so the production we got from was icing on the cake. Yeah, he is injury prone but that doesn’t mean it’s something that will always be a problem, but we’ll see.
- Mike Thomas was 4th round selection and with that being the case, the production we have gotten from him is damn good. I’m not saying he’s great but he has lived up to where he was drafted.
- This is only Alualu’s second season and him playing injured was not considered at all when you mentioned him. You addressed Knigton fairly in your comment below, so I’ll leave it at that.
-Dillard was hurt his first two season, so the fact he is just starting to get playing time makes sense. He was a fifth round selection, so I’m not sure how ‘great’ people was expecting him to be.
- Who said anything about Shorts being the next Jerry Rice? I’ll admit he is horrible at punt returns and I’m not sure why he hasn’t caught a pass yet, so I have no opinion of that.
- And Austen Lane was a 5th round pick, so he is providing exactly what he should be providing, depth.
And I’m not overrating anything, just calling it how I see it. Then you say the best players are from the Shack Harris era, as they should be, they are the veterans. How is it a knock on the younger players by not being better than the veterans of the team? It’s very possible that in a few years Blaine, Tyson and Terrance will be some of the best players on the team.
So I guess it's not fair to judge Gene.
If: 1) all his picks are injury prone 2) They are drafted lower than 3rd round. Gotcha.
Please tell me where I am wrong.
You guys seriously overrate our GM. That above is our rebuild. Look at it real good. Very few of those players have contributed much.
I won’t say anything about Blaine because he is exactly the type of QB I wanted here. So I’ll excuse him.
The best players on this team our leftovers from Shack: MJD, Marcedes Lewis, Greg Jones, Uche, Rashean Mathis, Jeremy Mincey.
Then you have all the FA acquisitions that Gene made on the Defense. Yea the D is good but not because of any of his picks. Alualu is a good player but he certainly isn’t playing like a top 10 pick. Knighton, considering where he was picked is playing good for a 3rd rounder. Cox has played up to his 2nd round pick at times, but he is hurt too much.
Eugene Monroe is definitely not living up to a top 10 LT. In fact I am wondering if that pick was purely need based. I though BJ Raji was the BAP, what do I know though. Britton was another blatantly need based pick and I can’t say he has even lived up to being a good 2nd round pick.
and the worst part...
is that you can only see a few of them improving into above average players. For many, you have the feeling that you know what the ceiling of their contributions.
How many guys taken in the top 10 in the 2010 draft are playing like a top 10 pick?
Bradford – sophomore slump? 0 and 5 is 0 and 5
Suh – once in a generational talent
Gerald McCoy – often injured
Trent Williams – same as above
Eric Berry† – ACL, we’ll see if the explosiveness remains
Russell Okung – jury’s out, but so far not much
Joe Haden – good
Rolando McClain – not what the Raiders expected
C. J. Spiller – wide receiver
Tyson Alualu – stalwart on the Jags D line. looked good vs the Steelers.

The original premise of my argument is that our picks have not contributed very much
Do you agree or disagree?
well, think about this one (no sarcasm, just some good conversation)
the way this team was dismantled on the fly, we have had to get production out of most every draft pick since 2009, especially given that 2008, we may as well have passed on every draft pick. That draft crippled this organization, and is still being felt today. Ideally, we should have had 1 or 2 cornerstones of the franchise in that draft by now. We have nothing at all to show for 2008 aside from wasted picks and unjustified contracts. Guarded optimism aside from Gabbert, I think it’s too early to evaluate the 2011 class.
If you really look at the last 3 drafts, we have a few cornerstone pieces – Knighton, Alualu, Monroe, Gabbert (need more of a sample size but I think we can all agree we’ve seen flashes), Thomas
a few guys who have battled injuries and could still pull it together and become good players – Jennings (7th rounder), Cox, Britton, Miller, Dillard
role players – Karim, Lane
the great unknown – D’Anthony Smith
Point is, it’s extremely premature to say this pick or that pick is a bust. We’ve seen good and bad from most of the picks who have stuck.
As for the cut players, I think it’s ludicrous to call a 5th rounder and back a bust because he did not cut it. A fair number of UDFAs make it, which I feel cancels out those 5th and back guys.

he was actually play really well statistically
at the beginning of the year when it came to pass blocking ranking #2 highest out of all LT so i think him being slimmer might have quickened his feet and allowed him to block better. but his first two years were horrendous and thats a problem for a cornerstone of the franchise

Which is why...
I say people aren’t looking at the big picture. How can we look at only the Jaguars when talking about the draft when there is 31 others team drafting too?
Alualu by a mile
I can count on him. I am fairly certain that I won’t click on BCC one morning and see that he got in trouble out in town. Can’t make that same claim with Bryant. Plus, Tyson hasn’t missed any games yet.

Then who's...
the other starting DT? And how do you convince Poz to come and play here? The big selling point was he would be back in a 4-3 with TnT in front of him controlling the line of scrimmage.
Good point
as it stands now, I like Alualu, and definitely Poz. But we really needed a WR, and no, Bryant is not worth both of them, not even close.
I'd rather be golfing.
This is what I mean.
You really would rather have Khalif Barnes over Eugene Monroe right now? Not me. Then you say we could’ve gotten an OT later but you don’t provide any names. Forget the QB tree Vic used to talk about, now we’re picking tackles from the OT tree.
Just one question though. Who would you rather have? Raji or Knighton? I’d take Knigton and keep Monroe.
Says who?
Do you not remember all of the stuff that happened leading up that draft? Eugene wasn’t even supposed to be there let all of the ‘experts’ tell it.
I'd still say...
Monroe was the BAP at the time. A potential Top 5 pick falls to you at a premium position, you have to take him. And how do we know how good Raji really is? He plays on the Packers defense who is loaded with playmakers all over it.
Monroe was considered a steal at that point
Playing revisionist history does no one any good. Hell, knwoing what we know now, I’d rather have taken Josh Freeman

You too have just said we would’ve had another player without naming any names. So how is the argument not valid?
because idk who the jags would have went after?
but here are some names they could have gone after in free agency.
cullen jenkins
barry coefield
brandon mebane etc etc im not gonna look up everybody
but they would have signed someone last off season is all im saying because they were willing to spend some cash
so the argument “well who would be our DT right now if alualu wasnt here?” is not valid cuz we would have addressed the DT position

Not a fair question.
Alualu went #10 and Dez went #24. You might as well ask me who would I rather have out of all the players who were drafted before between the two selections.
A better question would be: Who would I rather have right now Tyson, Dan Williams (#26) or Jared Odrick (#28) who were the next two DT’s taken in that draft. I’d take Tyson. It’s interesting that Miami originally had the #12 pick traded back and picked Odrick who was believed to be a similar player as Tyson, a 5 technique defensive end to play in a 3-4. It’s very possible that if we didn’t take Tyson, the Dolphins would have at #12. But that’s impossible to tell now.
You're point was taken.
I was just saying that it wasn’t a fair question considering how the draft played out. And you should know that Gene is BAP drafter, not a need based one. So it doesn’t matter what we needed.
I know and like the BAP philosophy but sometimes...
when there’s a glaring hole.
I'd rather be golfing.
You knew there was no way the Jags would touch Dez
There was a reason he dropped. And, apparently it has borne itself out.
