Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

Are the Jaguars bringing back WR Mike Sims-Walker?

Yesterday the St. Louis Rams released former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker, which led a few to wonder if the Jaguars would be interested in bringing him back. While Sims-Walker likely isn't the answer to the Jaguars woes, he certainly wouldn't hurt. This morning, Sims-Walker tweeted "And the phone calls begin..."

Later on today, he tweeted "It's like deja vu..."

And most recently he tweeted "Duuuuuvaaaaallllll"

Sims-Walker makes sense for two reasons: First of all, he would come at veteran minimum, as the Rams are still also paying his 2011 salary. Second, Sims-Walker would already know the playbook and should be able to come in right away and help the team. It would also allow the Jaguars to properly shuffle their wide receiver set up and let guys like Mike Thomas get into the slot, where can do his most damage. Credit to Gene Smith for admitting his mistake in the first place.

I hope so

Just not on a multi year deal. This year only but make him earn the extension.

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!

Seems very much like it

He would come cheap, knows playbook and team already. Couldn’t hurt given the Jags WR situation.

Good

Why not? Hes not any worse than what we have, and at the least he might free up the other teams secondary.

by dan073eb on Oct 18, 2011 12:52 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

At first I was against bringing him back...

But Alfie and others are right, he will draw a defender, knows Koetters system, and maybe even is out to prove he can play better after 2 teams have said goodbye to him.
Party on, Wayne!

As long...

as he doesn’t bring his drops issues with him. It’s not like our current group doesn’t have that same problem though, so whatever.

Good deal

If he plays well maybe he gets a new contract, if not oh well we don’t owe him anything

I got a note.....

Dear Mr. Smith,

Please excuse my son’s absence during Week 6 versus the Packers.

Signed,

Epstein’s mother (and not talking Hayden Epstein)

I really like this move. No risk to the team and he worked with a real quarterback for the past 6 weeks. Wouldn’t it be some shit if this was the move that turned things around, like the bizarro Rison?

Yes.

You never know what can happen. We really just needed a big WR target (and somewhat of a threat) for potential completions and (which has already been stated) to steer some focus away from Thomas and Lewis.

I'd rather be golfing.

Obviously he is tweeting stuff

@Alfie…..Do you have any other information that verifies it?

Working on it, but Tania tweeted the Jags have contacted him and are considering bringing him back.

Something is better than nothing

And that’s how it is right now with our WR’s. Get him back, let him prove himself, we’ll still draft a stud next year anyways.

Let me ask a question...

Ok so Rams have the guarantee of his salary. But why does that mean that he comes in at League Minimum. If someone offers him $2M for the year or whatever he’s welcome to double-dip right?

If I were Jags I’d try to sign him for two years highly built on incentives. Pay him min this year and then guarantee a mil or two next year plus incentives to get to $4-5M next year if he plays well.

Why are you so negative now........

Whatever move the Jaguars make you criticize

I think so too.

I considered not coming around for a while but this is the best place to share your opinion. It’s just too bad that such a large part is so negative.

Last year

Recievers were not such a problem. They were FAR from a strength… but not the problem they are this year. Maybe sims walker can fix that

by hawk16lx on Oct 18, 2011 1:27 PM EDT up reply actions

What do you mean?

It was the exact same group just without Sims-Walker.

by Keenan J on Oct 18, 2011 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions

not like he's going to need a few weeks to digest the playbook

Hell, according to most fans, the menu at Denny’s is more of a challenge.

HEY!!! Ill have you know that I am a much bigger fan

of the Dennys menu than I am than of the Jaguars playbook.

+1

Lol. Im starting to have very little hope for the rest of the season with our offense being worse than abysmal. I too yesterday was against him coming back but at this point I dont think any WR could ruin this receiving group as bad as it already is

by Jags85 on Oct 18, 2011 1:30 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I could think of 1 or 2

Terrell Owens, Randy Moss

I meant as far as catching the football wise

I already had thought of those two as far as giving up on plays and throwing the qb under the bus

by Jags85 on Oct 18, 2011 1:43 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Randy is done.......

Guy plays golf everyday and has money so there is no way he is going to sign on with a 1-5 team.

Although his daughter is attending UF on a basketball scholly so weirder things have happened before.
