Around SBN: Shaq As Orlando Magic General Manager? Don't Bet On It

Mike and Mike; Reunited

Mike Sims-Walker is supposedly being re-signed.  What does this mean?

Star-divide

Is Mike Sims-Walker going to step back into the #1 role?

I think he has to earn the spot before dethroning Jason Hill.

Does this help our passing game?

Yes, this definitely does.  If Mike takes the #1 spot back, we then have:

1. Mike Sims-Walker

2. Mike Thomas

3. Cecil Shorts III

4. Jason Hill

5. Jarrett Dillard

Jason Hill has dropped quite a few passes, especially the quick slants.  That is what Dirk Koetter utilizes the most in the Jaguars passing game, and Hill wasn't getting it done.  Sims-Walker was that guy, and now we have him back.  This also puts Hill in a better spot to utilize his strengths.  He is fast, with ok hands, and solid route running.  As a #4 he is more of a typical deep threat, and will get a lot of chances to make big plays.

How does this help Blaine Gabbert?

MSW will now provide him with an overall solid receiver to go with Mike Thomas.  He will get more attention from opposing defenses, making Thomas more open, and provides Blaine with a guy he can trust to make the catches in the clutch.

Why will Mike Sims-Walker be better this year?

Mike now has a good QB.  He has a big QB, with a huge arm, and pretty solid accuracy.  He is better then Garrard, and may even be more mobile then him, Garrard's only strength.  1,400 yards in 2 years with a solid(at best) QB, lets see what he can do with Blaine.  This can only help Blaine develop.

Gabbert isn't good, yet

Not saying he’s a bad quarterback, but he’s just a rookie. At this point, he isn’t better than Garrard, but he is only a few games into his career. Plus MSW didn’t exactly play that great with Bradford, who is better than Garrard or Gabbert.

Bradford

is better than Gabbert right now, but not better than Garrard was last year. I expect both will surpass Garrard however.
