Jim Tressel for Head Coach?

Many people may not like Ohio State, but the coach is one of the best college coaches in football and is known his for run first hard nose offense, special teams and great defenses. He is rumored to be looking at Indy for a new job. I would rather see him here at a place that already has a great running back and has an up and coming defense. There are alot of other choices but gruden just signed for another five years, Bill Cowher would be the best fit.but who would you take next in line? Jim is my pick behind Bill. Alot of people move from Ohio to FL to retire and Ohio State fans would boost sales on the spot. You may not like OSU but the fans spend alot of money...So tell me I am crazy and throw things at me but I am a fan and this is my thought and hope you enjoy the post.

I want a offensive mind

I don’t know the best candidate for the job right now, but it needs to be someone who has an offensive mind and know how to develop quarterbacks. On another note, if we do make a change at head coach, I hope they keep Mel Tucker. He earned it

by True Jag on Oct 19, 2011 6:13 PM EDT reply actions

Good thought on Mel

I think he has had a hard road so far in Jacksonville, its a good thought for sure. I think we have to look at the new offensive coordinator for development of the QB. Of course that brings in an entire new thought process of who that would be…the big question is how much of a house cleaning will we have at Jacksonville and how high up in the ladder will it go?

by Joshua Jones on Oct 19, 2011 6:18 PM EDT reply actions

Wait...you are kidding, right?

Holtz, Spurrier, Saban, Petrino, and Weiss didn’t prove to you that college coaches don’t know how to coach in the NFL?

Touche.

However, we have discussed that the new NFL is about passing. Is that a Tressel stregnth?
I don’t think he’s HC material for NFL.

It is one of the most

Field position is one of the most important aspects of football, I would say only Defense is above. If you put them at their 10 yard line on a consistent basis your chances of scoring goes up dramatically, dont think MJD could get us from the 50 or 40 to at least field goal range on a regular basis?

by Joshua Jones on Oct 19, 2011 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

You are who you are..

MJD is our Team, defense is 2nd, and we have a rookie QB ( who will be awesome given time). Your not going to be the colts or NE with a coaching change. If running is your game, than defense and ball control is who you are and what you need…there is nothing to be ashamed about if your Jacksonville and you win with defense, running and ball control.

by Joshua Jones on Oct 19, 2011 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Look I love running the ball more than a lot of people.

I played in a flexbone triple option in high school.
My run pass ratio in NCAA is 20/80 or something like that.

But the NFL today is a passing league and getting more aggressive on offense and defense.
All the recent rule changes have made passing the ball even easier.
The average yards passing per team last year was 220 yards, so far this year its been 246 yards.

Conservative run game and defense is on the way out and has been for a while.
And If you don’t change your are going to get screwed.

absolutely not to Koetter

I really have taken a disliking to him recently. I just can’t see how his offense scheme is any good

True

But winning is more exciting than play calling and is more important..record speaks for itself but I can see your point for sure…

by Joshua Jones on Oct 19, 2011 6:36 PM EDT up reply actions

True its not the SEC

As if its the Big East,ACC or Pac 10? tho?

by Joshua Jones on Oct 19, 2011 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn't say its as good as those other conferences either

Definitely not the Pac-10. Not the ACC. Maybe the Big East. But in the Big 10, there biggest “rival” for that crown has been Michigan St (who always seems to get in its own way) and Wisonsin and they have just been getting good again the past couple years. All three of them tied last year and OSU won on some weird tie-breaker.

agree

Who does the scouting? He is known for it seeking out talent that others did not want and making them better than anticipated.Sanzenbacher was only one, and no one picked him up even the jags…oops.Bears seem pretty happy now as he is their #1 receiver.

by Joshua Jones on Oct 19, 2011 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Not him, they have all of the assistant coaching staff for that.

I’m sure they show him some tape every now and then.
And sure he goes to the Blue Chipper houses to meet momma and daddy and flash the ring.

But overall a CFB HC does not spend all of his time staring at a TV screen watching some kids game for hours on end.

No this one did,

I can promise you that Jim Tressel looked at every single player, he is a control freak and is known for it at OSU, known fact. He is not the coach that sits back and lets other do alot of work, he is a hard working coach who actually cares about the city and the kids who play for him, and is one of the reasons for his fall at Ohio State, he even cared and help TP after he was fired and talked to him alot and guided him..what coach do you know would do that after being fired? Not going to get him for lack of doing work or letting others do his work nor the ability to be unselfish.

by Joshua Jones on Oct 19, 2011 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Nope no jokes,

Very true, some if not most College coaches make it in the NFL. Tressel ball also had a 94–22 and six BCS appearances, most schools or teams would love that kind of record. I can always see that people have room for improvement and of course I think a good offensive coordinator would help that issue. If you have very little turn overs, great special teams and a good defense you have a great chance of winning at any level including the NFL.

Indy or us?

Its not like Indy is a horrible team either, if they quickly got him a job at Indy, as they did, someone must think he is worth holding on to. I would rather it be us doing something with him than Indy getting anything. Oh and lets not forget his record vs his rival..Michigan has not been the same since, he also is a huge Browns fan…dont you think he would love to beat them every chance he got? He is a good pick

by Joshua Jones on Oct 19, 2011 6:50 PM EDT reply actions

well… at least when players get paid, Tressel wouldn’t catch flack for it in the NFL

I think...

this conversation is counter productive at this point. How about we wait until Del Rio is fired, if he is, until we discuss this. Or if everyone insists, how about we talk about potential GM’s too? Since so many of us (not me) don’t want him with the team after this season.

by Keenan J on Oct 20, 2011 3:04 AM EDT reply actions

Wanting a new HC/GM

…and expecting a new HC/GM are two entirely different things, I fall in the later category as opposed to the former.

Some signs have been pointing to a possible coach that would do both, and that would imply Gene wouldn’t be returning. Things may change but all I am saying is noone is certain what next year will have in store for the Jags management.
