Gene's drafting

Something I came across on ESPN today.  What makes this more aggravating is the fact that Pierre-Paul, who everyone expected us to draft has 12 sacks, 10 passes defensed, and 3 forced fumbles so far in a year and a half.  Pouncey was on the board too.  Alualu so far has 4.5 sacks,  2 passes defended, and no forced fumbles.  I like Alualu as a player and a person, but some may have been right.  Maybe we did reach.

Paul Kuharsky -

"Pro Football Focus says Knighton’s been productive four games in a row, but scored Alualu poorly over the same span, with an especially bad game in Week 4 against New Orleans.

Overall, Knighton is 27th in the website's defensive tackle ratings and Alualu is 77th of 78 rated players. Their work against the run is judged superior to their work rushing the quarterback."

Overall Gene has been solid

Heck we’d take anything after Shack Harris, but we can no longer pretend he is great. He is still pretty darn good though. He did a great job with the free agents he brought in. The new safeties have been great and Posluszny was everything we wanted. Yet to be determined on Sessions, but right now it seems it was a waste of money.

Aren't...

you being a little to judgemental towards Tyson? You know he’s playing hurt right? If he wasn’t and was still playing at his current level, then I’d understand. But with the fact that he is playing injured and still being somewhat effective says a lot. And how can you compare sacks between a defensive end a defensive tackle? Also, Tyson was drafted #10 and Pierre-Paul was drafted #15. Another defensive end, Brandon Graham, was drafted before Paul also. So I guess Gene wasn’t the only one to miss out on him, huh?

Like I said, I like Tyson, heck I have an Alualu jersey but..

We could have gotten this kind of production from a random DT in the league as is witnessed by the fact that Alualu ranked out 77th of 78 rated DT’s. I can appreciate playing hurt, but maybe he shouldn’t. Just heal up. He was hurt last year too.

Meanwhile, Pierre-Paul is doing what we paid our team mascot / d-line coach Aaron Kampman to do.

Yeah...

but you know what we wouldn’t have gotten from some random DT? A player that is going to be a staple on our defensive line for the next ten years.

if alualu cant play well hurt

then he shouldnt be playing dline in the nfl. and he isnt playing well and was brought in to BE A PASS RUSHER at the dt position and he isnt doing it. he is offically another overdrafted jags player

So...

he was just brought in to be a pass rusher? He was brought in to disrupt the line of scrimmage from the 3-tech, which he does, not to just rush the passer. Either way, you still can’t compare a DT to DE. It’s a logic fail to do so. And if he can’t well hurt, then he shouldn’t be playin d-line in the NFL? What kind of crap is that? How is any player at any position supposed to play their best hurt? It seems Jaguar fans just know it all when it comes to rating players.

if youve ever actually played football

you know everybody on the lines are hurt 24/7 i played highschool ball and everybody had knee shoulder back problems but they still had to play effectively. Dline isnt a position to not be able to play hurt because you get hurt all the time their injurys just dont show up on the injury report.
and hes barely a 300 pound DT with quick burst high motor and decent hands……how are those attributes to describe a run stuffer? if you watched him play he isnt really effective agianst the run hes better against the pass and thats why they brought him in……to get to the passer and push presser. MAYBE NOT SACK but put pressure and he hasnt.
Good win though today bye the Defense

That's like saying a RB comes in just for catching passes out of the backfield

His main job isn’t to do that, but he can do that. DT are supposed to stop the run and if he can rush the passer, great. And I would say our DT tandem has been doing a great job stopping the run. I believe the Jags are 6th in YPC up the middle.

Honestly guys.

Whether you are pro-Gene or not. Stop with these constant Gene draft posts.

I swear there are 3 a week on this site.

If Gene does step down, I hope we keep him elsewhere within the organization.

Screw this...

Gene drafting crap. From now on, if someone wants to talk about Gene, his FA acquisitions need to be brought into the discussion.

He's pretty good a drafting too

That Cox guy sure played well yesterday.

It’s WAY too early to judge this years class yet and both DT’s helped in putting pressure on the QB yesterday. I’m pretty sure BAL had to keep extra guys in for protection so that they could double a few guys on the line.

i haven't watched all 78 players PFF rated

but i have a hard time believing 76 of them are better than Alualu

I hear ya. I want him to succeed. He did have a goose egg against Baltimore though.

No tackles, no hurries, nada. We played well and that’s all that matters. I’m expecting MORE from a guy picked mid first round.
