Derek Cox Will Play Left Corner, Middleton Right Corner

Stay connected for news and updates

On Sunday the Jacksonville Jaguars Rashean Mathis suffered a knee injury in the win against the Indianapolis Colts that was feared to be a torn ACL. Monday, an MRI revealed that Mathis suffered a torn ACL and then would be lost for the season. At practice yesterday, Derek Cox shifted over to the left cornerback position while William Middleton was at the right corner. The Jaguars are a team on defense that do not have their corners shadow receivers, but play left and right.

This will be the second time Derek Cox will be shifted over to the left side, as he did so in 2010 when Mathis missed much of OTA's trying to get a new contract. That switch didn't work out so well for Cox last season. Cox was abused in the opening game by the Denver Broncos and wound up being benched for quite a few games. Cox has played much better this season however, so it will be interesting to see how he fares the rest of the season.
