Jacksonville Jaguars Game Day Thread
Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars, Nov 27, 2011 1:00 PM EST
The Jacksonville Jaguars get back to EverBank Field today to host the Houston Texans. The team was able to avoid the blackout, so the game will be on local television (CBS). You can also listen to the game if you're in the Jacksonville area on AM 690 WOKV. The Jaguars will be without some key players on the defensive side of the football. Here are the players we know will be out for the game:
Terrance Knighton, Derek Cox, Rashean Mathis, Clint Session, Matt Roth
The defensive will have five different starters than the last time they played the Houston Texans. For the Texans perspective on the game, check out Battle Red Blog. Kickoff is at 1PM and the weather outside should be glorious for football, with a high of 77 and 20% chance of showers. Discuss the game in this thread, and here's to an injury free day.

If you've made enemies then you've stood up for something
If our offense doesn't show a continued improvement this week
then I cant see us winning any games until week 16. We obviously need to see players stepping up and if they cannot do that, then more pressure is added to Gene Smith. He needs to keep adding depth to this team.
Anyone know why robiskie is inactive?

Because he's dealing with a sore hammy
And he’s not a good option for us at WR at this point
I was born into the Purdue and Miami family, became a Jaguars fan after moving to Jacksonville and adopted the Royals as my baseball team.....All of my teams are kinda bad....

it needs to be Jan 1, the jags play the colts, and i'll be on leave in jacksonville i think we can win that game haha
If you've made enemies then you've stood up for something
at this point the Jags have a very realistic shot at a top 5 pick
considering a few two loss teams are in the NFC west and may get a few more wins and our schedule is still pretty tough the next four or five weeks. We are about to lose Knighton and maybe Roth to IR which means our defense has been decimated by injuries. I hate seeing our team lose but I think the best thing for this team is to lose while seeing Gabbert continue to develop so that way Weaver has no reason to keep Del Rio.
wouldnt you call that a gabbert overthrow?

If you've made enemies then you've stood up for something
Trade Gabbert for a 1st round draft pick
Let a real HC and GM pick up a QB of the future and a WR for him to throw to
Why are people already damning gabbert
He is playin the #1 ranked D heck he’s played the top defenses all season and needs an offseason, every single QB is different give gabbert another season
If you've made enemies then you've stood up for something
Because they just look at the stats, tell them to go back and check Elway and Aikmans rookie year and compare
Aikman and Elway
Aikman ended up getting the best offense in awhile with a lopsided trade that got them Emmitt Smith.
Elway was good but never won a Super Bowl until much later in his career. I don’t want to wait 11 years to win a Super Bowl
His confidence is gonna go in the crapper
He’s going to be of no use to use next year if any of these WRs are on the team. We’re turning him into the next David Carr
David Carr?
Horrible comparison
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Nov 27, 2011 2:21 PM EST up reply actions
Carr was the sure thing pick in 2002
A lot of people liked his mechanics and thought he would end up good. Then Houston’s poor OL and WR corps got him killed and dropped his passes.
What’s different

Someone new
You want to remove EVERYONE from this coaching staff. I want no ties to the JDR error that has gone on here since 2003
Get mark brunell for QB coach, somehow get cowher/gruden as a HC haha
If you've made enemies then you've stood up for something
Brunell might still play for the Jets this season
I rather have Zombie Vince Lombardi coach our team if we’re putting out unrealistic coaches
Les Miles, Kevin Sumlin, Pete Carmichael Jr., Panthers OC, Mike Martz (if we had capable WRs, maybe), Chris Petersen, Gary Patterson
Mind you,
I have no faith in Mr. Weaver to make a competent hire, so I assume we’ll just hire whoever will take the least amount of money
I disagree
Another less distinguished coach among the elite pay-wise is Jacksonville’s Jack Del Rio (65-63), who got a five-year extension worth roughly $25 million in 2008 after making the playoffs twice in three years, putting him ninth on our list. The Jaguars have slumped to 20-28 since, with two years left to run on Del Rio’s contract.

"You think you know, but you don't know."
Mr. Weaver
Thinks the mistake made in paying too much. He did that after he paid for Porter and Flourence and then we went on a spending freeze. Hence why we have the second highest cap space in the NFL
i kinda wanted ponder too but i still give gabbert another season, i dont even think manning could overly succed with this cast
If you've made enemies then you've stood up for something
I was joking about trading Gabbert as I think he needs some time to prove he's good
but if a top rated QB by a competent GM falls to us I wouldn’t mind the new regime drafting one
Oh well. Gabbert can be good, but he needs a coaching and team package to help.
Its obvious that our receivers are crap.
Old habits die hard.
Gabbert’s aware of his nervous pocket presence, and he’s aware of his inaccuracy when throwing off his back foot. If he still does it next year, then everyone is right. It would be nice if people pulled for him a little more, he’s a young rookie. When he makes sharp throws, his weight is on his front foot after his release – bad ones, he’s leaning backwards – it’s just mechanics. Watch him next half. When he gets time, and steps in, he can make all the throws.
Throw the ball, score points.
we could have 17 points right now.......cept for lewis/scobee
If you've made enemies then you've stood up for something

I believe he said they are capable
which they are when they run routes completely and eliminate the drops

If they aren't getting any seperation
throwing in there vicinity will end up in a pick

How is it
The kid is getting killed back there AND it seems no one wants to catch for him AND his coaching staff might be the worst in the league AND he definitly has the worst QB coach in the league.
What’s going to change next year?
You have more faith than I do
I highly doubt Mr. Weaver will fire JDR since he gave him wiggle room before the season to stay. Which means Gene Smith might stay, and whoever is willing to accept a one year assistant coach deal will stay
Carr gotted sacked about 80 times that year
even with the six today he doesn’t come close to that

I think this offseason Gabbert's going to have to unlearn a bunch of things

Whomever was steaking down the middle of the field on that play had about 3 steps on his defender, he put that out in front of him we are watching a touchdown celebration now!
Dave got cut because he was terrible
The back is just the reason why he’s not playing anywhere right now.
Follow me on Twitter
No it won't
Teflon Jack has lots of excuses on why he WON’T be fired
(Bad personnel, injuries, bad luck)
Why can't we f-in put together a td drive? Why is the offense so horrible!
by Slawsc on Nov 27, 2011 3:42 PM EST via mobile reply actions
McCown coming in
JDR must not want his young QB getting killed on every play
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Nov 27, 2011 3:46 PM EST reply actions
I like the move
Gabbert is losing confidence, and if this keeps up then he’ll be just another talented young qb that got hit one too many times
I don't think Gabbert lacks confidence
I think JDR doesn’t want him injuried
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Nov 27, 2011 3:49 PM EST up reply actions
His reactions say he has no confidence?
Wow, I had no clue you could see into a guys’ brain like that. Your really smart!

You can't deny
his body language and play don’t paint a great picture at this moment.
They yanked him too early after one bad game against the Jets.
Granted, it was a really bad game.
really really bad game
but it was surelly too early
You underscore how bad he played
the team had no choice really but to put him in for good.
i dont think so
its not like gabbert is braking the bank
If your main guy plays that bad
on a team thats not figured to do anything, theres really no point in not playing your prized rookie. Thats the argument and I think its hard to argue, especially given the fact that McCown has never done anything in this league worth mentioning.
Everyone hated McCown week 3
now you love him? smh

Lets be honest, Luke is a vet and he should be playing like this. Gabbert shouldnt be starting but Luke played his way out of the lineup.
up to the D now
and true.. would have been much better to let Blaine sit all year and watch and learn

Thank you Defense.
For making this season almost respectable. At least I get to watch one side of the ball perform and dominate.
youboty has been pretty good tackling in open field today
Obviously Gabbert needs an offseason with a QBs coach and new weapons. A big offseason acquisition and a draft pick will do wonders for this offense.
Gabbert will probably sit the rest of the season because Del Rio needs wins or else he is fired
Gabbert has struggled mightily and he needs time to learn better footwork. He resorts back to old habits in the middle of the game so McCwon needs to come i nand keep Gabbert from going to old tendencies.
Why is deji even in the game?
Yet alone being given the ball for his 10th negative yard play of the game
by Slawsc on Nov 27, 2011 4:01 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Dirk, I want to kick you in the nuts so hard! Better hope I never see you out and about, ill go to jail for that!
This is what can be done when your QB isn't the worst in the league.

I'm willing to drink the Kool-ade, but I'm hungry for the truth.
why!!!
on the last drive of the game, MJD should be on the field in al plays
So Lewis can go up and make a catch for McCown
But he alligator arms every pass from Gabbert? Whats going on there?
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Nov 27, 2011 4:04 PM EST reply actions
McCowns ball is easier to catch?
Defensive backs would probably agree too.
yeah....
i want the 2nd pick so the jags can trade for a qb needy team, or even draft a qb lol
oh yeah.
drop back three or four slots from 2 or 3 to 6 or 7 and draft Blackmon or Claiborne and get an extra second round pick and third or something
Robert Griffin IIIis blowing my mind right now
wouldn’t be cool to take 2 qbs in 1st round in back to back drafts??hahah
phew... why do keep doing stuff like this?
that has to the nail in JDR’s coffin

I don't mean today
I just don’t see how he comes back next year

He has 5 million due next year
has a boad load of excuses and Mr. Weaver is a horrible owner who won’t fire him anyway
Please don't turn this into a coaching thing again
Every part of the offense sucked today including the coaching, scroll up and read your comments that you’ve been writing all day.
I agree
Execution lost this game just like last week. The gameplan probably could have been better but it was players that lost it

The team defenitely wants to win, which is good
we need better players at WR, T, and depth to all of our offensive positions. I’d like some depth at LB and DB as well. We will certainly get a new coaching staff this year, its tough to keep anyone around after a year like this.
I just really hope to see big strides from Blaine year 2, I’m hopeful he will.
I think I would be fine with them giving the HC job to Tucker
as long as they can get a good OC under him
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Nov 27, 2011 4:23 PM EST up reply actions
Why?
Why would you want someone who learned under Jack Del Rio how to be a head coach, to be your head coach? At the point, why not save yourself five million and keep Jack
He learned under him?
He has been here for like two years and Just because he was here doesn’t mean he is same or anything similar to JDR. They are two different people
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Nov 27, 2011 4:31 PM EST up reply actions
It’s a lot of responsiblity to be a head coach and in the NFL the only one’s he worked for a Romeo Crennel and JDR. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
Plus how good a DC is he really? Since he’s been here this is the first good year the defense has had.
This is the first year he had real control of the defense
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Nov 27, 2011 4:41 PM EST up reply actions
It has nothing to do
With the Jags actually picking up a bunch of free agents and trades to improve that area right?
If thats the case then he is a good DC
and just needed the talent to show it. You should really think first instead of just talking out of your ass.
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Nov 27, 2011 4:52 PM EST up reply actions
Sorry
I think a good coach is someone who gets something out of nothing and gets a lot out of talent.
Is Dirk Koetter a good OC? I mean the offense was better when we had talent and now it’s not. So he’s a good coach
And the Jags were winning more when JDR was doing playcalling, we had talent on both sides of the ball so he’s a good head coach too.
You’re one of those people afraid of change aren’t you? That’s seemingly the only reason why anyone would want someone in -house rather than someone new
You don't want a Coordinator
You want a magician. Those are the only people that get something out of nothing. Every good coordinator has tools to work with. They aren’t winning more but are you seriously trying to argue that the Defense isn’t better. smh. Tucker would be change as I as before, they are not the same person but I think its pretty obvious your not going to get that threw your head
