what we need vs whats available

The Jags are in a good situation they have a free agency filled with the type of players they need plus they have to reach the cap minimum of the new CBA that is set to start this upcoming year. Then they also have the draft which is also deep in their needs. But sticking to free agency lets take a look whats out there.

-DE MARIO WILLIAMS, Robert Mathis, John Abraham

-CB Their own Mathis

-O-Line ?????????????

-Someone to keep all the ?

NOTE= I like Steve Johnson the best because you always had to account for the Jets if you make it into the post season and Johnson is probably the only receiver that can beat Darelle Reevis. Yes i alson know William would probably sat with the Texans but he as had some injury problems if the Texans don't make a move right at the beginning of free agency he could still be there. As for Mathis it pends on two things a can he get the money he is going to want with how much they are paying Manning now and will Manning still be there, if the Colts draft Luke and get rid of Manning i would not want to come back, i don't see this happening but you never know. I still think that Mathis should be resigned by the Jags he is our best corner and while yes he is getting old drafting a decent corner would allow Mathis to teach the rookie a thing or two before he retires. The rest is full of stuff I'm not sure of but if the Jags can land any of these guys via free agency then be successful in the draft they will be fine.

Couple thoughts....

Did you see how much bad press Stevie just got for that stunt last week? If there’s anyone who’s not a Gene guy right now, I think it’s him. I really like Bowe coming to us for some reason. He’s not what you would call a Gene character guy, but he doesn’t have any red flags. What we need in free agency is a reliable every down WR so we can draft our deep threat with a high and maybe a couple throw away picks. Bowe could add that reliable, big, blocking receiver that we need. Khan will be willing to spend and we have the space.

Mathis is just too old. I think he’s still good for a few more years…but I’d rather keep giving the younger guys chances. We’ve had success with a lot of depth guys on the D-Line; one of them are bound to hit eventually. Maybe Chick will.

Our Mathis will depend on money. He’s said he wants to retire and he’s probably figuring out right now that his value has dropped to bob sanders status. If he’s willing to take a Kirk Morrison contract at most, I think we resign him. It’s a low risk, why wouldn’t we?

I expect we’ll keep catching more waiver wire and udfa type CB’s and maybe draft one if he’s at the right value.

Guys like Willaims, Abram, etc…I’d be surprised to see signed but I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. I don’t think we’d be willing to pay what Williams expects though.

Cliff Avril

Is another good option at DE. He’s really good but isn’t very hyped. He’s also from Jacksonville, he went to Clay High. That’s who I could see us going after for DE.

Stevie Johnson may have some on-field issues – not exactly GMG Deal Breakers, but he’s a charismatic guy with a lot of talent – most importantly, he’s young and hitting his prime and the Bills just locked up a good chunk of $$$ by signing Fitzpatrick and now they’re going to have to pay Fred Jackson.
