With the release of Jack Del Rio to be just a matter of when, the question making its rounds is " Who will Weaver bring in?". This will be a huge decision for Weaver. It may even be a franchise saving decision. The Jaguar fan base is eroding rapidly due to the teams poor performance. Popular opinion says that unless Weaver brings in a top tier head coach the fans will not be satisfied. I personally do not hold with this opinion, but thats what it is.
So who? Cowher? This is highly unlikely. Cowher has made no indication that he is looking to get back into coaching. If he had there would be a slew of teams firing thier current coaches to go after him.
Gruden? He is a popular personality on tv, but is he really a good coach? He won 5 playoff games in his 10 year career and 3 of those came in his first year with Tampa. Many claim this superbowl run deserves an asterick because the team was comprised of Dungy's players.
Dungy? Would he come out of retirement? Thats a thought.
Fisher? 5 and 6 playoff record during his 17 year coaching career. Would this be good enough for jag fans? I would have a hard time getting use to seeing our mortal enemy walking our sidelines.
Billick? Has he been away to long? Why has no team gone after him? The bigger question is why has no team gone after any of the above? Maybe they have and we are not aware.
There has been a big turn over in coaches the last couple years with teams signing "no name " coordinators. How has this worked out?
Jim Schwartz of the Lions seems to be doing quite well
Mike McCarthy of the Packers is another doing an outstanding job.
So who would you want?
