Jaguars Off-Season 3.0

Here we go again.

Star-divide

Free Agents Jaguars Sign:

Steve Johnson WR 6 Year 41 Million

Plaxico Burress WR 2 Year 11.6 Million

Mat McBriar P 4 Year 9 Million

Steve Johnson is a really good receiver, and I think he'd rather play somewhere else. A great place to play is Jacksonville, where the weather is beautful, the Jaguars have a top 5 defense, the #1 running back, and need a couple receivers. Johnson would instantly improve the Jaguars passing offense.

This is going to get some criticism, but Plaxico is a good receiver. He committed a crime, and suffered the consequence, he's back, and he's still good. Plaxico is 6'5" 232 lbs, and is a good possession receiver. He would provide Gabbert with another big red zone target(other one is Marcedes Lewis) and it'll do wonders for him.

We need a punter, and McBriar is pretty good.

I have the Jaguars going 6-10, drafting 6th.

Jaguars Draft:

1. Jonathan Martin OT Stanford

2. Kendall Wright WR Baylor

3. Devin Taylor DE South Carolina

4. William Vlachos C Alabama

5. Matt Reynolds OT BYU

Jaguars Trade 2012 6th Round Pick for Eagles 2013 5th Round Pick

Martin - Start at RT, and start there for a long time. He's a good player, and pretty much solidifys the O-Line.

Wright - This guy is a beast, and looks to be the next DeSean Jackson.

Taylor - Physical specimen, with a lot of potential, at 6'7" 250 lbs, he needs to bulk up, but can turn into a great DE.

Vlachos - Future center.

Reynolds - BAP, and replaces Whimper, with time, may turn into a solid starter.

I know that's really deep at receiver,

but Steve and Plaxico will definetely make it, Thomas got the guarenteed money already, so keep him and put him in the slot. Wright will be a deep threat and screen guy, hopefully developing into DeSean Jackson 2.0. Cecil Shorts can still develop into a good receiver. Dillard has proved he’s a good possesion receiver. Taylor Price to be a deep threat. This will be a deep rotation, and will the Jaguars will always have fresh legs at receiver. In 2 years, expecting receivers would be the following,

1. Johnson
2. Wright
3. Shorts
4. Dillard

I’d change plaice for Dwayne "big daddy " Bowe …….. With him and Johnson at WR , we would instantly be contenders ……not to mention a few other pickups plus the draft

umm sorry but i dont see most of this stuff happening and in the first round we should take Quinton Coples, Morris claibourne, justin blackmon or Alsohn Jeffrey. Also in free agency I would take Reggie Wayne or Dwayne Bowe

So we're going

to resign a 33 year old Mathis, who is coming off of a major knee injury??? so much for our top 5 defense…

6 yrs 41 million for Johnson

I know we are going to overpay for whichever receiver we sign (as is the nature of free agency) but if we are going to shell out the big bucks I’d rather get Jackson who is on another level than Stevie Johnson.

1. I’m expecting Bowe to stay in KC.
2. Vincent Jackson and DeSean Jackson both love the spotlight, there’s not much of it in Jville.

I know you...

didn’t ask me but I’d say because of a lack of selling points. Last year when he signed Poz, Session, Landry and Coleman, he had something to entice them with other than the money. If I remember correctly, Poz signed first and it was probably all downhill from there with the rest. This offseason when he goes to overhaul the offense (assuming he does) the way he did with the defense, there’s not much convince many of the premier players that will be available with. With the way Blaine has performed thus far, all he has to sell them on is MJD, Marcedes and the fact they are guranteed a starting spot. Even though Lewis has stuggled this year, it’s hard to not believe he still isn’t an elite level talent. So he’ll something to sell them on, just not a lot.

by kjones407 on Dec 19, 2011 4:03 PM EST up reply actions

The defenders came here because most of them either wanted to go to different systems that fit their skill sets or wanted to be in a position where they'd get a lot more PT and $$$

You are correct.

Those were the selling points. So other than money, playing time and the chance to play in the same offense with MJD and Lewis. What would be his strategy to get some of the premiere offensive free agents to come here? Or are those the only ones he has? And even if they are, do you think it’s enough to covince them (whoever it is) to come and be a Jag?

by kjones407 on Dec 19, 2011 6:44 PM EST up reply actions

When is it never about the money?

You see the Niners last night? What changed on that team aside from HC and a few components in the secondary?

The Jags are not as far off as some folks would think and we’ve got a 3rd place schedule for next year.

I think the free agency plans are a stretch,

Gene Smith likes clean cut players and needless to say Steve and Plaxico have or had character issues. If we were to pursue anyone in free agency, it’ll probably Reggie Wayne if Indy lets him go.

The Draft is a toss up, anything can happen.

by Trenton Williams on Dec 19, 2011 4:56 PM EST reply actions

I think signing a FA punter is stupidity

the plax move is also kind of stupid if you ask me. I know WR is a need, but I would rather spend money on harry douglas as a second WR to bring in behind a Jackson or Bowe, although Stevie Johnson for the right price is an intriguing option.

by Jagsrok9008 on Dec 19, 2011 5:53 PM EST reply actions

I like Plax

he may finish the season with 10 TDs 600 yards, a big red zone target would definetely help Gabbert.

I just don't see plax

TO had a great year in 2010. Skills guys get old over night in the NFL.

VJax would be awesome, but I don’t think Gene will go for him, a la Weddle. He’s good, but I don’t think he’s going to be worth as much as he gets paid.

Bowe, on the other hand, doesn’t have that #1 WR career stat-line that demands top dollar, but his dropoff in talent from VJax is very little, if at all. Bowe has spent his entire career behind bad QBs, and still been productive…which is a factor I’m interested in. If we give him a little more than asking price (such as sessions), I think he’ll have no problem coming here. KC has Orton now, but a very unsure QB situation going into the future, and I really don’t see him returning to KC whether he comes here or not.

Someone in the comments had mentioned the FSU punter, and I’d like to give him a shot with a late round pick.

Stevie and D Jackson are both guys I don’t see coming here. I’d love to see either of them in teal, but the distractions they’ve caused takes them off the radar IMO.

BTW, lol @ plaxico and Stevie being on the same team. You did see that right?

by Mr.Awesome on Dec 19, 2011 7:41 PM EST reply actions

yes LOL I just thought about that now,

but they’re rivals right now, in same division, it was all in good fun. ;)

Seriously?

I think Plax signed a 2 year deal but even if he didn’t, he isn’t leaving the Jets but even if he did he wouldn’t come here for 2 reasons, He is older and wants to play for a contender right away and I doubt Gene Smith will sign him with all of his past issues. Bottom that will never happen.

I’m really not a fan of Johnson, He is pretty good but he drops a lot of balls and he always picks the absolute worst time to do it.

As far as the draft, I like Martin and Wright (but I would want to add another WR in the draft as well). Taylor, I wouldn’t scoff at but I would rather go for a guy like Stephen Gilmore around that 3rd pick.

The last two picks.. They like Estes, I seriously, seriously, seriously doubt they draft a Center. And I like Reynolds but why draft two RT’s?

by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Dec 19, 2011 7:44 PM EST reply actions

with britton moving to guard

and whimper being cut, they have 2 T, Monroe and Bradfiel, so they draft two.

I can see Gene taking 2 or 3 OL. Really.

Monroe has the only safe job right now. Love me some Nwarni, but he could end up as our center, and open a whole new can. Blaine making it through the season without injury knock on wood has been lucky, but I don’t think we’ll roll the dice with these guys twice. Too many “should-bes” and not enough “will-bes”

by Mr.Awesome on Dec 19, 2011 8:08 PM EST up reply actions

Ya

Meester will probably be there, as he’s consistent and still good. Monroe is starting to play well. Nwaneri is starting to play well, but Rackley sucks, Whimper sucks, and Britton is always hurt.

Yes that has been lucky

But I can see him going RT but not really any other lineman. Uche and Monroe are safe, Meester is here as long as he is consistent and still wants to play football. The have Estes that they like behind him, Rackley has been good since the B more game. Spitz, Bradfeild, Breckenridge (i think thats his name) coming off IR and for some strange reason I think they will being Whimper back as a back up. I think teams can always use more talent on the O-line but dont think the line is in shambles the way it seems.

If you look at that Falcon game and almost all the pressure can from one side, Gabbert ran into one sack from a guy that lined up against Monroe but mostly it was the right. I think they are a solid line with an extremely weak link.

by Joe Fisher on Dec 20, 2011 10:25 AM EST up reply actions

But to be fair

We never really saw something from either guy yet. I heard haslam did very well in training camp, but I didn’t personally see it. With our depth a DT it’s kind of hard to think about D’Anthony making the team next year unless we let go of collins or Douzable is saved in place of one of the DEs.

Aaron Morgan is a guy I’m a little excited about. He looks like Mincey did a couple of years ago when he just kept fighting to make the team. I mean they’re very different players, but the motor and the flashes may just keep him around long enough to make an impact.

by Mr.Awesome on Dec 20, 2011 12:08 PM EST up reply actions

I picture Haslam not being on the team this year

because he’s hurt all the time, and D’Anthony gets beat out here, he lost a step and Collins, Mosley, and Douzable are better, I didn’t forget them

hate to burst any bubbles but

Steve Johnson has expressed interest in staying in Buffalo. Granted it may take them a while to reach an agreement seeing as they just dished out a lot of cash out to Fitzpatrick and don’t have a lot of money in the bank. Don’t get me wrong i like Johnson he is actually the only guy who can really beat Darrell Revis

You want to make a splash Khan?

Draft RG111 in the first round-Heck just as an athlete, and to draw some more fans, bring him in and make blaine step up, or step off. And if blaine does step up and plays better, then we could use the blazing quick RG111 at WR and send him deep everytime he has one on one. AND THEN in the second round get RG111’s teamate Kendall Wright and then we can work on the O line and secondary in the rest of the draft, and in free agency as well as the waiver wire. WE NEED SPARKS, WE NEED STARS, THESE TWO GUYS WOULD NOT ONLY BRING THAT, BUT WOULD ALSO BRING CONTINUITY FROM COLLEGE. Not to mention that from what I have seen in interviews(to go along with game footage) this griffen guy has some brains, AND ALOT OF GUTS
