Report: Jaguars sign WR/S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah to PS, release S Matt Estrada

Adam Caplan of Sirius/XM Radio is reporting that the Jaguars have signed former Cowboys S/WR Akwasi Owusu-Ansah to their practice squad. To make room for him, Caplan also reports the Jaguars released S Matt Estrada from the practice squad.

Owusu-Ansah was drafted by the Cowboys because of his elite physical skill set (6'0, 207 pounds, 4.32 40 yard dash), but was unable to provide much production. The Cowboys moved him to safety and then to wide receiver at the beginning of this season, but ultimately his only contribution for the team was as a return specialist and a subpar one at that.

His pure athleticism make him an interesting prospect and one that the Jaguars will try to get the most out of on their practice squad. Estrada spent the entire season on the Jaguars practice squad after a relatively strong showing in preseason.

4.32 speed on a guy of that size is pretty interesting

this is a guy who I really would love to see become something useful. doubt it happens and not holding out much hope of anything coming of him, but ya never know.

WE got to stop thinking so negative..we got a new fire lit up under the team now…anybody is capable of breaking out right now..I see him as another player with potential..hopefully he gets off the practice squad before the end of the season.

by orecic76 on Dec 4, 2011 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

there is a difference between negativity and reality

negativity is something along the lines of “if this guy proves to be a gem in the rough, he will manage to suffer a career-ending injury in the near future”
reality is basically what i said above.

by Jagsrok9008 on Dec 4, 2011 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

4.32 is the only fact(reality),maybe….but just looking at his college highlights, he looks to be a S instead of WR..don’t know if the Cowboys were trying to make him into D. Hester or what..but I’d like to see him at S.

by orecic76 on Dec 4, 2011 7:05 PM EST up reply actions

i wouldn't

we need a contributor at WR not S. I think there was a good reason he was switched by Dallas.

by Jagsrok9008 on Dec 4, 2011 7:07 PM EST up reply actions

just guessing he probably cant run routes well, break the jam or not a very good pass catcher.

by orecic76 on Dec 4, 2011 7:10 PM EST up reply actions

or he cant tackle.

by orecic76 on Dec 4, 2011 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

and your statement sounds SO contradicting….you either ride wit him or against him, why straddle the fence?

by orecic76 on Dec 4, 2011 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

i want him to suceed

just not holding out hope that he does

by Jagsrok9008 on Dec 4, 2011 7:16 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah but can he catch?

We don't care about that...

we like “athletic” guys with “upside”.

So

Who are these

athletic" guys with "upside".
that you talking about?

by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Dec 4, 2011 8:06 PM EST up reply actions

Matt Jones is the first...

And guys like Miller and Potter come to mind.
I would prefer guys who can play.

by JPQ! on Dec 4, 2011 8:17 PM EST up reply actions

So the current GM is responsible for the picks prior to him getting the job? Got ya.

In what way is Potter an “athletic guy with upside”? He is a blocking TE. That right there is just wow.. I can’t believe you said that. Amazing, is this why some of you guys have a problem with players, because you have no idea what position they play or what specialty they have.

Miller, he was a 5th round pick, a guy with upside are all you can really ask for in that round on. So I guess you were kinda right, you did name one.

by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Dec 4, 2011 8:45 PM EST up reply actions

Hahahaha...you are priceless.

First off, I didn’t mention any GM. Secondly, I didn’t say picked in rounds X or Y or signed as UDFA. Thirdly, I know exactly where they play and what their roles are. I get that you think you are some kind of football guru, and I couldnt be happier for you and your circle of friends who get to be enlightened by all your football “smarts”. Me, though, I’ve read your comments, and I think you are full of crap, and you say a lot of nonsense to seem like you have a clue. So, do me a solid and when you feel like making a condescending remark about something I said, don’t bother…I think you are an a—hole, and there literally isn’t anything on this planet I have less respect for than your opinion.
Thanks, Chief!

You are the dumbest human being to ever live

If you didn’t mean the GM, then who did you mean? He is the one responsible for picking the players. I gave you credit, you named one of those “guys” that you mentioned.

And for the rest of your comment, I just don’t like when people talk out of their ass about my team, all of your comments are thought-less claims that you can never support with any type of reason or fact, if that makes me an asshole, then so be it.

Also dude, no one cares what an idiot has respect for.

“your” team.

Yes, I am a fan, so I consider them my favorite team

What fan doesn’t? your sad. Its also cute that when your nonsensical point was called out, you abandoned it and tried to make it personal, way to prove me right genius.

who knows

but it is always intriguing to see what a guy of that size and speed combo can do on the field. Maybe our top tier coaching staff will mold him into the next Jerry Rice(if he projects to be a WR) or Troy Polamalu (if he projects to be a S).

Yes, I am aware its a highlight reel. But I’m a fan of his potential!

by thegoodz on Dec 4, 2011 6:47 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Very little is expected of him if he does play.

He’s nothing more than a place-holder to fill out the roster while our IR is expanded to protect next year’s promising players. The guy sucked in Dallas, and he’ll suck here, but that’s really unimportant.

by homebiscuit on Dec 4, 2011 7:33 PM EST reply actions

He "sucked" in Dallas?

wut he never even played in a game

Good game homie

by tiquanunderwear on Dec 4, 2011 8:08 PM EST up reply actions

not gonna agree and say he sucked

but the whole S to WR to released indicates he just might not be that great

Um,

did you happen to read the lead article?

by homebiscuit on Dec 4, 2011 8:47 PM EST up reply actions

I don't know how to lead an article?

Good game homie.....Please don't leave Dwight, and Otis don't trade JJ

Look at my post again

It’s obvious you don’t know how to read anything.

you guys are forgetting

that this guy has a hyphen in his last name. Don’t ever underestimate the power of the hyphen when mixed with a teal jersey
