DE John Chick to injured reserve among other Jaguars roster moves

Photo

After a strong season, defensive end John Chick's year comes to a close as the team announced he will head to the injured reserve list. The Jaguars also announced that their decisions to move defensive back Akwasi Owusu-Ansah to the active roster, release tight end Fendi Onobun and sign linebacker Kevin Malast to the practice squad.

The Jaguars active roster is back at 53 with the additions of Owusu-Ansah and wide receiver Taylor Price to fill the spots left by Chick and Onobun. The practice squad though, is at seven players for now which means the team doesn't have to come to an injury settlement with anyone on injured reserve quite yet.

The roster is back to its full capacity of 80 right now, but if the Jaguars decide to add someone to the practice squad, someone will have to be waived from IR.

Chick's season ends with what has been said to be a patella injury after 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble on the year. He now represents the 24th player to be sent to the injured reserve for the Jaguars in the 2011 season.

I don’t know many players off the top of my head who come back.

by Alfie Crow on Dec 6, 2011 4:44 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

doing a little research, it depends on exactly what the injury to the patella was…he probably will be back if its a dislocation or something of that nature….fractures take as long as an ACL depending on severity

(dont quote me on this)

I think Chick will be PUP next year and back about the same time Kampman was this year. I think Knighton and Alualu should be IR to save them for next year….I want two more victories, to save 4-12 for the ’95 Jags and no one else

I had a subluxed patella twice my freshman year of college and came back just fine

My coach rushed me back in season the first time and it happened again (worse the second time)…but after a full off-season of rest and rehab it was cool and I got pretty much all of my speed back (went slightly down from a 4.34 forty to a 4.4)….it really does depend on what the specific injury is to his patella.

IIRC, LeCharles Bentley had it and Cadillac Williams had it. Those are the only ones off the top of my head I remember. But, I believe they also had the worst possible kind of tear for it.

I twisted my knee once walking the dog. My 40 time dropped a few ticks from a 5.9 to around a 6.23. – I know how you feel, man. It’s like you’’re in slow motion.

this is unbelievable
  1. pick, here we come!!! Or maybe, we purposely lose to the colts, figure out a way to get the colts to win 2 other games, and then we manage to pull the #1 pick. In that case, I will say drafting Luck and trading Gabbert is alright, but only because I like Luck a lot more than any other QB in the class this year and I doubt any team could offer up a trade that is wirth it for the #1 pick.

** #2 pick here we come

not sure why it went to a numbered list

Does anybody know if

Price is ready to play or is he injured?

by DeeMoe on Dec 6, 2011 5:20 PM EST via mobile reply actions

The official report will come on Wednesday

But Price was fine last Sunday. Talib may not be in (hamstring), but Freeman looks likely to start.

A defense ranked #31 does not inspire confidence in one's defensive coordinator. Any head coach knows this: own up to it, Raheem- hire a full time DC and put your full focus on ONE of your jobs.

But of course, you're talking about Taylor Price, not Brian, now that I stop to think about it

I’ll shut up now.

No way I come to play for Jags

if I am a free agent out there. It seems as soon as they get on the squad they get hurt and go on IR!!! I have never seen a team so snake bitten by injuries before.

By the way, speaking of Chicks injury...

was I the only one here who thought it was HILARIOUS when Greg Jones did his pimp walk out to Chick during the injury timeout? My man was getting his stroll on… Me and the guy next to me were laughing our asses off – like, is Greg Jones so badass that he can heal injuries too?
We were imagining he was gonna start rubbing his hands together like Mr. Miyagi in the locker room at the end of Karate Kid and heal Chick on the spot.
Jones is awesome.

Did someone break a mirror in the facility or something?

I can’t think of any other explanation for this. Also Onobun’s profile says he is 249 but when they threw him a pass last night I thought they throwing to another lineman, He was huuge.

Hopefully Price can play Sunday, Jags need all the help they can get in the receiving core.

Uncanny Number of Injuries

Is there a record for players going onto IR in a single season? The odds of a Jaguar player going on the IR must be incredible – 25%+? If the Jags were a workplace, OSHA would shut us down for the rest of the season. The NFL needs to do more to protect players. The injuries are ruining the game. What are the most common causes of injuries? A team’s season can go down the toilet instantly with repeated injuries to starters. If we were a contender, the injuries would be a tragedy. The situation sure places a premium on scouting for replacement players.
