Thanks for coming on man

Have you always played Quarterback? If not, what age/grade did you move to QB?

Imagine yourself as a scout. In what aspects of the game does Colin Kaepernick excel, and in which aspects of the game could he afford to improve?

by Jagsrok9008 on Feb 10, 2011 5:51 PM EST reply actions

I think i excel with my pre-snap reads and making sure the offense is in the right play or protection, as well as my athletic ability and strong arm. Areas that i could improve on are going to be picking up on complex NFL coverages because you just don’t see that very often in college football and picking up on NFL terminology quickly because we didn’t run a pro-style offense.

Thanks Colin for answering our questions

I have collected a couple of questions from Hungarain football fans who followed your career in Neveda. here is the 1st pack

Tell us about how was if like playing at Nevada? What are you proud of the most as a Wolfpack QB?

You are played mostly in pistol offense in Nevada. What elements can you use from that system in the NFL?

Some scouts rating you very differently. Some say you are one of the best QB prospect of this class; some say you are a project QB at best. What do you think about that huge range of ratings and (in your opinion) what could be the reason scouts see and rate you in such a wide range?

Are you following any kind of site which is focusing on drafts? Do you read mock drafts? Or you are not interested in such things?

When you went to Nevada; you chose that college to become a great college football player; or you went to Nevada because you though that will be your best place to prepare you for the NFL?

Who would you compared yourself from the current NFL QBs (playing style; preparing etc.)? Do you have any player(s) (current or retired) you looking up to?

If you chose baseball instead of football; you would be more or less successful as you are as a football player?

It was an amazing experience playing for the Wolf Pack and you learn quickly hard work is an expectation and not an option which I loved. My most proud moment as QB at Nevada was having our team go 13-1 this past season and seeing all of our hard work pay off first hand

The pistol doesn’t directly translate into the NFL system, but one thing I have already learned is that a lot of the route combination and run plays are similar they are just called something different than in the pistol. When it comes down to it football is football no matter what offense you play in.

I think some scouts may not have actually seen what i was capable of until the senior bowl week because we aren’t on TV like some of the major BCS schools. I think once they truly evaluate me next to my competition they will see i am a top prospect.

I dont follow the draft stuff too much except for what my parents and brother send me, which keeps me pretty up to date on everything that is going on.

Nevada was my only scholarship offer and my only chance to play football. I chose it because I loved football and did not want to have to go and play baseball when football is my love.

I look up to a lot of different QBs and try to steal bits and pieces of everyones game and try to turn it into my own unique style. i like Peyton’s and Brady’s mental side of the game of always knowing exactly what they want to do with the ball, I like Rodger’s and Big Ben’s ability to keep plays alive with pocket movement and like Vick’s ability to just go out and make plays out of nothing.

I think no matter what i do football, baseball, or life I will be successful because I am too determined to be successful to let anything else happen.

Tough question because you never really focus on that you just want to win games. i think this past year it really kind of hit me that my dream of playing in the NFL has a chance of becoming true.

I'm from Niners Nation (thanks Big Cat Co + Colin)

Hey Colin,

you’re regarded by many as an intriguing prospect due to the style of offense you played at Nevada, but just that, someone who played in a stat-padding offense.

what do you have to say to this? do you think you can make the transition to a pro-style offense easily?

Many people are excited to draft you and watch you develop in the background. Do you think you have what it takes to come in and succeed immediately ala Bradford?

Thanks for your time, best of luck!

I think no matter what offense you are in you have to have football skills to succeed. Do i think that our offense may have highlighted the QB as far as putting the ball into my hands, yes. But do i think i could be successful in a different offense, yes. This was just the offense i was put into.

I think making the transition to a pro-style offense with be a smooth transition for me and i think i showed this at the senior bowl, as far as picking up on the terminology and knowing my reads quickly and making the throws. i think with that being said i have the ability to come in and succeed immediately, but that will be for my future coach to decide.

Having played in Nevada, a relatively warm state

would you think getting drafted to play in a place such as say Buffalo be a signiicant transition, or would you not consider weather conditions to be much of a factor for you?

by Jagsrok9008 on Feb 10, 2011 6:00 PM EST reply actions

weather won’t be a factor for me, in Reno we would practice in blizzards because we had no indoor facility so I’ve gotten pretty used to playing in all weather conditions.

Hey Colin, 49ers fan here, got a couple of questions.

What are your thoughts on folks critiquing your throwing motion to the extent that it has been? Are you taking steps to shorten the throwing motion, or do your 35’’ arms mean it will always be long and slower? Do you see it as an issue moving forward? For things like swing and touch passes, will there need to be an adjustment to make those kinds of throws?

What would you say your most accurate throw is?

The pistol will be under a lot of scrutiny, what are your thoughts on a west coast offense , and will it be a challenge for you to learn the footwork needed in such a system?

What do you think about Jim Harbaugh, the new 49ers coach, if anything? Many would call him a quarterback guru, do you think he could make you a better player?

Check out Chester, an Xbox game being developed by a friend.
Then, you can donate to my friend's video game documentary. Any bit helps.

by James Brady on Feb 10, 2011 6:01 PM EST reply actions

My throwing motion is something i am trying to shorten as much as possible, but at the same time, like you said, my arms and long and my release will always be a little bit longer. This, however, does not mean my release has to be slower. i don’t see it as an issue moving forward because i have making all the throws necessary to move to the next level.

i think i am very accurate with all of my throws so i couldn’t pinpoint one as my most accurate.

I pick up on things very quickly and will not have a problem picking up on new footwork.

I think Jim Harbaugh is a great coach and I have talked to Andrew Luck and he speaks very highly of him. I think I could learn a great deal from any coach that gets his hands on me.

Thanks for answering the 1st half - here are the second part of the Questions!

If you can’t stay in the NFL; how would you imagine your life outside of football?

Do you think you can be a franchise QB within a few years in the NFL? If so; tell me why do you think you can become a franchise player?

One of the biggest concern in the NFL of a player is durability. Do you think you can play 16 (or 18) games in this league; where season-ending and/or serious injuries are –sadly –part of this game in every match?

Which player looked very impressive in your opinion on the Senior Bowl?

What was the favorite play in the pistol offense?

Somebody who watched you in the recent years wondering; how can you be such a successful athlete with "having a very thin leg"?

Who is your favorite non-football player athlete? What best result in bench pressing?

What is your favourite movie? What are your hobbies?

You are really tall; can you dunk?

Yes, i have all of the tools to be a franchise QB from my mental capabilities to my physical abilities and also have been very good with my decision making. Now i just have to learn a new offense and put these tool to work with a new team.

Yes, (knock on wood) I have never had a serious injury or an injury that has kept me out of a game for that matter.

Is pocket presence something that comes naturally, or something you have to practice and develop? I know your offense was more based on you taking off when you had an opening; do you think it will be a big adjustment to spend a lot more time sitting in the pocket scanning the field?

What was the most difficult time in your college career? How did you overcome the challenge? How did that make you a better player?

by jimmydan on Feb 10, 2011 6:43 PM EST reply actions

Not playing my Freshman year. I just stayed focus on what i wanted to do if i ever got the opportunity to play and kept working hard. it made me a better player by teaching myself to stay focused on a goal and preparing for opportunity.

Gladiator is my favorite movie too

Do you plan on watching The Eagle?

The perfect draft...
Round 1: Von Miller
Round 2: Jimmy Smith
Round 3: Colin Kaepernick

You like Gladiator movies...

…do you watch the Starz series Spartacus?

by rhettchrystal on Feb 10, 2011 6:46 PM EST reply actions

Yes, I have the whole first season.

by Colin Kaepernick on Feb 10, 2011 7:03 PM EST up reply actions

I love it...

…the fill in season, season #2 is great, but unfortuantely the actor who played Spartacus, can’t come back because he has been re-diagnosed with Lucemia, so somebody else is playign his role, but they look similar

Hopefully

I would love it if you became a Jaguar how much would it help you to have Jones-Drew, Marcedes Lewis, and Mike Thomas as your weapons at the next level

That would be amazing to play side by side with stars like them. It would make my life easier!

Colin

Who’s your NFL idol?

by dan073eb on Feb 10, 2011 6:51 PM EST reply actions

I look up to quite a few different people in the NFL

by Colin Kaepernick on Feb 10, 2011 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

What team would you most like to play for?

What coach would you most like to play for?

If there is no NFL games played next year, would you have the chance to play in another league? If so, would you play in another league? UFL or CFL?

I would happy to play anywhere and for anyone!

Thanks for this Colin, that's all the questions from me.

And thanks to the folks here at Big Cat Country, on behalf of Niners Nation, for getting this setup.

Then, you can donate to my friend's video game documentary. Any bit helps.

May as well ask, if you can get to it.

Would you like to be a San Francisco 49er? Do you like the Bay Area?

Either way, thanks to all. I like that this took place.

Receiver

Regardless of where you go in the NFL is there a receiver that you would love the opportunity to throw to?

by Auntka on Feb 10, 2011 6:55 PM EST reply actions

There are so many great receivers out there it’s ridiculous, but i love watching Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson!
