Report: Jacksonville Jaguars sign DE Paul Spicer
According to Adam Caplan of Fox Sports, the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed veteran defensive end Paul Spicer. Spicer was previously a member of the Jaguars from 2000-2008. He was released in 2009 and had a stint with the New Orleans Saintsin the 2009 pre-season. I was under the impression Paul Spicer was doing some scout work with the Jaguars, but it looks like the Jaguars felt the need to bring on a veteran defensive end. Spicer, now 35, had 21.5 sacks with the Jaguars from 2005-2008.
I find it hard to believe this will be much more than a ceremonial retirement situation, as I can't see Spicer making the teams roster or even going to camp.
UPDATE 9:37 A.M.: Tania Ganguli tweeted as much, confirming my suspicion.
The #Jaguars signed Paul Spicer to a one-day deal because he wants to retire a Jaguar. I'll try to talk to him today to find out his plans

Agreed
Even though we are weaker at DE, the youth of Mincey, Hart, and Harvey would get a nod over Spicer.

Talk about a guy who got as much out of his ability as anyone
The man was all heart and guts.
If it’s ceremonial, which it sounds like, he totally deserves it. I hear he’s been coaching HS or something like that.
Spicer
He is one of my all-time favorite Jags. Heck of a nice guy and turned out to be a pretty solid player. You have to respect a guy that gets cut by multiple teams but keeps fighting to stay in the league.
My favorite Spicer moment was when ESPN was interviewing him on SportsCenter after the Steelers playoff win. He ended the interview by saying:
“DUUUUUUUUUUVVVVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!”

Yep
I was watching the game up here in Maryland at my apartment, which was packed with Steelers fans. When he screamed out DUVAL it became one of my proudest moments of Jaguar fandom.
Coach Crennel, if all of your Coors Lights can talk what happens when you open your fridge? There's generally "Hoopla" involved.
Guys...

Spicer wants to be an NFL coach. He’s been sitting in on meetings and film sessions at JU to begin learning. #jaguars

What about signing him as an assistant D-Line coach, behind Cullen, and he can learn there.
