There have been many players suggested as the best selection for the Jags at the 16th spot of this years draft. I am not going to rehash that, and will leave the decision up to the very qualified Gene Smith and his staff, but the irony of one of the choices just makes me smile.
Last year about this time, we had many die hard Gator fans chanting that the only way to save the Jags in Jacksonville was to draft number 15....their beloved Tim Tebow. I did not buy into this, nor did many on this site, but there were enough Gator lovers that truly believed that Timmy would not only correct the team's ticket sale issues, but lead us to the promise land of playoff glory. The study occurring in Denver has seemed to proven the limitations to Mr. Tebow's capabilities, and support the wise decision making of the Jaguars.
And now we sit, one year later, and the unthinkable might occur. Not only did the "hometown" NFL team turn their noses up at the reptilian savior, but those crazy cats my be on the verge of delivering the biggest facing in the history of Gainesville, FL. The Jacksonville Jaguars may actually, with their first round pick, select a QB named Christian from the arch rival in Tallahassee. Ponder (pardon the pun) the reaction at U of F on the day after the draft. Will Gators be more devastated, disappointed, and confused than last year? Will this be the final blow that drives a dividing wall between the Gator and Jag fans? Or will disaster be avoided with the selection of a defensive back or end? If Ponder is selected, will there be caravans traveling form Tallahassee to Jacksonville on Sundays in the Fall? Will there be a bunch of Ponder jerseys at EverBank from what ever team he does go to if the Jags don't pick him? Many questions to be answered, and we will have to wait until the end of April to find out.
