It has occurred to me since the end of the draft yesterday that a lot of people have been overlooking one of the most important factors affected by the draft. Want to know what that would be? Ticket Sales!!! Whether you agree or disagree with all of some of the picks, i think the overall consensus is that the Jaguars fans as a whole love the draft. I am in this grouping because although I know for a fact I love the first three picks, I'm not quite sure about the last two even though I see tremendous upside in them. I'm very excited to see these guys develop and so is a lot of other fans. Mackey Weaver stated on Friday that the phones have been ringing a lot from fans wanting to buy season tickets. Even though Gene knew he was taking Gabbert because he thought he could be our guy, I don't think ticket sales were in his mind with this pick. The fans love this guy and they will pay to see him. Oh and guess what, there's a lot buzz right now and that is before FA. At some point we will have it and Gene and Terry McDonough have already said they are going to get at least two defensive players in FA and I wouldn't be surprised if they get up to 4. Gene isn't just adding role players on FA, he is going to add some very good starters that will change this defense and help our team be a playoff contender. Yes, the Texans improved their defense tremendously in the draft, but we are going to get proven players to fill the holes we have left which will essentially give us an advantage this year and we can draft defense next year. Ticket sales have been increasing since the draft and whether you love the draft or not, there is buzz in Jacksonville that hasn't been here for a few years. That, my friends, is a beautiful thing.
