2011 NFL Draft: Jaguars Best And Worst Pick
We're supposed to pick a best and worst draft pick of the team's drafts. I have a hard time calling a draft pick the "worst" pick before they even play a down. So, I'm going to change it up to best pick and most questionable pick. How about that?
The best pick in my opinion is obviously Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert. The Jaguars front office showed they weren't afraid to take a home run swing. They found a guy they believe is a franchise quarterback, who obviously was very high on their board, and went and got him.
As far as the most questionable pick, to me it's Wyoming safety Chris Prosinski. His measurables at his Pro-Day workout and production was fantastic at Wyoming, however when watching him I just didn't really see it. It's possible with some better NFL level coaching he can blossom. From what I saw, while he had a large number of tackles, he also missed quite a few tackles as well. In particular I remember former Fresno State and San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews absolutely making Prosinski look silly on more than one occasion.
So, what do you think was the BEST Jacksonville Jaguars draft pick?

I like all of our picks
I think they are good players, but the ones I like least are Shorts and Prosinski. They are 4th round picks however. I’m not expecting to get a Mike Thomas every year in the 4th.
At the very least I think we’ll get a good special teams player out of Prosinski. I do agree he misses more tackles than I would like from my starting safety. As of now, Carey is the better player.
I don't think we do
if you’re talking about Mike Thomas, I really believe that he proved to be a very solid #2 receiver. I think Jason Hill will be our #1 this year, and Shorts will be our slot guy.
Can't stand the truth?

I think our guys fit best at that slot though
while we might be able to play them outside, their natural gifts are more suited to the slot. I could be wrong.
If Dillard could stay healthy
He’d be pretty nasty at slot.
My least favorite pick has to be Cecil Short, I don’t like how he leaves his feet all the time when he doesn’t need to. We were seriously punished for that habit in high school and it’s easy to see why; it gets you killed in a hurry.
Most of the time when you see DIII NFL prospects on film they look like they are on a different level athletically than everyone else around them. I didn’t get that impression with Shorts. He was a late pick and has good numbers so we’ll see I guess.
Does anyone know where you can find bad film on Prosinski? From the film I saw on youtube he looked like he’d be an improvement over any of our safeties tackling wise. I’ve said it before but to me he looks like Polamalu, closes fast and goes low. Any resemblance to Polamalu can’t be a bad thing.
I'm not willing to conced that Carey is better player
But I agree at worst, Prosinski will be an extremely good special teams guy

I think the best pick is probably Rackley
The Gabbert pick was a good one, but I think Rackley is a guy who I believe will be a starter soon and we got him at a lower price.

I loved our first three and the last two I wont judge until I see them play
One thing to think about for prosinski is that he played on an absolutely horrible Wyoming team. They went 3-9 in the MWC. Their defense was very bad and he was the guy that had to make every play. Of course he probably missed a couple tackles. I bet he was out there hustling his ass off though and with some better conditioning he could be fairly good. I’m just saying, it’s hard to judge a player who played on an awful team, just like overrating a S who had an amazing pass rush

I'm sure his conditioning is fine
being that he played 7,000 feet up and making 140 tackles. I’m sure playing at sea level should be easy for him.

same here...
The Gabbert pick was a lot of flash on draft day and probably has a good chance to pan out – but I’ve got a hunch on Rackley… and big offensive linemen get no love after the first round. Good pick up I bet.
In terms of value gotten out of the pick
Rackley likely is the best pick. Gabbert is the most important pick, and potentially the guy who will turn out to be the best at what he does, but we got Rackley close to a round lower than his value.
As for worst pick, I am going to say Prosinski, although I do like what I have seen on youtube
I think you nailed it
I have high hopes for Prosinski but he could easily fall into the rut the rest of our safeties fall into.
Gabbert best, Shorts is (for now) least

I'm
Not seeing how the Prosinski pick is questionable. It was in the fourth round, and the kid has great athleticism and production. Had he been the selection in the second or even third I’d fully agree with you, but I think the fourth was a fine place to take him.
For me it’d be the Shorts pick. And I don’t dislike the pick, I just question it, thinking he may have been a bit of a reach, especially with other speed types on the board at that time.

I wish I could see more of his film
I don’t see the speed, but he does have the hands and the route running ability. I guess in that sense he’s not to different from Dillard who I’m really high on. And to add to that I think Shorts is pretty good with the ball in his hands. So I guess we’ll see.
Oddly enough there has not been much mention of Dillard
aside from us. I really want to see what he can do. I’d like to think he can be an Austin Collie type guy for us.
I see him being
Chad Johnson. Not really fast, but can run great routes and make spectacular catches.
Poor guy
I hope he pulls an MSW and comes back with a 60 catch season.

The good thing is
I don’t think he’s injury prone. It’s not a knee or a ligament problem. He also hasn’t had a huge injury history prior to the foot break.
Yeah
I’m not seeing the all-american track speed. From what I have found in the past week he looks like he has good speed, but not gamebreaking. If he can be good with the ball in his hands in the NFL I’d be ecstatic. Something we really lack.
