Who's the final piece to the Jaguar's linebackers? UPDATED CLINT SESSION
Daryl Smith has always been a top outside linebacker for this team. He will remain on this team, but last year's MLB Kirk Morrison, and WLB Justin Durant are both free agents. Kirk looked like he was going to be resigned, but Paul Posluszny was signed to a 6 year deal. MLB and SLB are solved up, those are 2 top 10 linebackers at their respected positions. But we need one more line backer. A weak side linebacker. There are quite a few players out there that fit the bill, but who will it be?
Lawson and McIntosh are both players from a 3-4, who's skill set didn't fit them in that formation. Their skill sets would better fit them in a 4-3. Out of the two Lawson is better, and a year younger. I have heard Lawson and the Patriots in the same sentence, and McIntosh I have heard wants to re-sign with the Redskins, but the Giants are willing to change that.
James Anderson finally started all season minus one. He made the most of it on the strong side with 130 tackles and 3.5 sacks. That is a lot for the strong side. Moving him to the weakside, would give the Jaguars the best 4-3 linebacker set in the league. I have heard though he will re-sign with the Panthers.
Stephen Nicholas has never started a whole season, but he is a pretty solid all-around player. There was a lot of Nicholas to New York(Giants) talk, but now it is being reported, he was trying to drive up his value. And he wants to be a Lion.
Quincy Black has been a two-down strongside linebacker for the Bucs. But a good one at that. He is an all-around player. He's not bad at anything, but not great at anything as well. He is pretty quick, and can hit hard. I read that he is eager to re-sign, and the Bucs have him in their long-term plans. Giants are interested as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaVQpwl5Mj0
Clint Session was hurt most of last year, but when he is playing he is a top linebacker. Signing him makes the Colts worse, and their rival better. Win win situation. Had 103 tackles in 09, and was on track for a big year in 2010. He is only 6'0" though. I have only heard the Jaguars being interested though.
Out of these players, I can't say who Gene will sign. I didn't expect them to go after top MLB, but they did size the top MLB. They still have a lot of money to spend, so a big signing can happen, but the top tier players would probably rather go to a team with more "spotlight". Though with the state income tax, they will make more money here. I'm feeling Lawson, Session, or Nicholas. Lawson and Session are most likely not re-signing, and are looking for a 4-3 team. I want James Anderson, but it looks as if he will re-sign.
Lawson is still avaibut I'd like Lawson. There is the chance of Gene going after players with a lot less spotlight, but the Jaguars still have to spend a lot more money, so the top-tier players would make sense. Thomas Howard is a possibility as well, because he is good in coverage, but bad against the run.
I'm still saying Session,

I would think between Session and Anderson… Both are kind of under the radar guys. Also, I think Stewart Bradley could be a dark horse.

Stewart Bradley is a beast 3-4 LB
He’s 6ft4in thumper
I go for Anderson or Black.
Posluzny can play Will – did so for most of his college career didn’t he?
What could of happened; did.
I'd really like to sign
James Anderson, but after taking to Panther fans last night they seem pretty confident that he’ll resign there. If that’s the case then we should go with Stephen Nicholas or Quincy Black.
Although
Since Posluszny did play OLB in college and we would get Morrison cheap like Mullayo said that could very well be an option

We'd certainly have one of the smartest sets of linebackers around then
I think there are advantages to Morrison knowing the system and probably being a bit better this year for it – especially in this foreshortened season. Also, we have heaps of young linebackers who could learn of our starters and hopefully replace them in time.

Poz's agent said the reason he left Buffalo was to play MLB in a 4-3.
He’s not going to OLB.

Personally, I LOVE Rocky McIntosh. He would perform so much better in our D.

I have a problem bringing back Morrison for WLB.
He cant cover. He’ll be covering backs, tight ends, and sometimes slot recievers fro, the outside more often.

Coverage definitely isn't his strong suit
He’s a MLB through and through. His office is the 5 yards between where he lines up and the LOS

Just sign the fastest
That position desperately needs speed.
