Jaguars Likely to Release OG Justin Smiley
According to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville Jaguars offensive guard Justin Smiley is no where to be seen and will likely be released today at 4:01 PM when teams can officially cut players. I was getting ready to do a post about possible releases for the Jaguars, and Smiley was going to be at the top of the list.
Justin Smiley is not with the offense. He has likely been released.
The Jaguars traded a conditional 7th round pick to the Miami Dolphins last off-season for guard Justin Smiley. Smiley has been oft-injured in his career and missed some practices, but started the year as the Jacksonville Jaguars starting left guard. He was replaced by veteran guard Vince Manuwai against the Buffalo Bills and was relegated to back up duty ever since. Smiley was due about $2 million in salary this year, which is a bit much for an oft-injured back up interior lineman, especially when the team drafted a young guard in Will Rackley.

So between him and podlesh we just saved 3.5 million or something like that right?
I say we sign Landry, Session, and then go out and get Carr or like a DE like Osi when he gets cut. We have a lot of money left. Or Malcolm Floyd anyone?

let's go gene
if we can get landry and session our defense will be much improved
So Smiley is gone, and we have another Guard on the non-football injury list...
That means Rackley is definitely gonna get some playing time early on in camp.

Many, many guards available (good backup quality)
Chris Chester – Baltimore
Evan Mathis – Cincinnati
Max Jean Giles – Philadelphia
Nate Livings – Cincinnati
Leroy Harris – Tennessee
Nick Cole – Philadelphia
Tony Moll – Baltimore
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
And
Chris Chester and Evan Mathis would be ok starters
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
ive heard of mathis
Id like to see landry/dirty laundry, session, a backup guard, perhaps Carr too

He didn't start any games last year
But he started 7 games in ’09.
Per PFF:
4. Evan Mathis, Cincinnati Bengals
Age as of 1st September 2011: 29
2010 Grade: +6.2
Key Stat: Played just 114 snaps in 2010.
Behind The Numbers: After a great start to the 2009 season, Mathis returned from a brief injury and found himself in a rotation with Nate Livings. It was a strange decision, but not as strange as Mathis being dropped to the bench for nearly 90% of the 2010 season. When he got his chance he played as well as you’d expect, allowing one pressure and generally winning his battles in the trenches. Mathis could be one of the steals of free agency.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
Chester will probably resign with Baltimore and Harris has a lot of teams interested and is driving his price up

I think gene is trying to not overpay anyone when this is an inflated market
And everyone is getting overpaid. That’s why were a little behind right now.

If he pumps iron, and runs
and eats a lot of protein, he will lose some fat, and pack on 5-10 lbs of muscle by the time the season rolls around.

I hope we sign some O-linemen soon. We need depth becuase age and injuries are an issue. There are some deals to be had out there.
And yes lets trade Harvey if there are some decent, young free agent DE’s left out there.
