A Buyer's Guide to Clint Session, Perspective from a Colts Fan

Hello Jaguars Fans! Not that you had any choice in the manner, but you just signed Clint Session to a long term deal. So I'd thought I would take a few minutes here and explain what you can expect from Clint Session.

To start, in 2009, Clint Session should've been a pro bowler. He was a punishing run stopper and was decent in pass coverage. He even grabbed a few picks. He was a complete player than, and heading into his contract year everyone thought he would be the 2nd exception to the Colts rule, we don't resign LBs (1st exception is and always will be, Gary Brackett). Then, 2010 rolled around...

Clint Session regressed in 2010. He was a liability in pass coverage, and was getting blown up by Vonte Leach (one reason Arian Foster had a field day against the Colts week 1 2010). Even when he was healthy, he wasn't the same player. That was more or less the reason he was let go, he regressed massively, and couldn't stay healthy. If he was irreplaceable, the Colts wouldn't have let him go.

Even when he isn't playing his best, he can still give memorable performances. The second time the Colts played the Texans, Clint Session broke his forearm and dislocated his elbow, but he played the rest of the game. He was a vital part in the Colts winning that game. But he didn't play another game that season.

The reasons are clear why he was let go, he was ineffective and hurt his contract year. But if you get the 2009 Clint Session, you just got a pro bowler. The problem still remains that he regressed even while healthy, and there is no telling if he will stay healthy. But if you get the 2009 Clint Session, you get a great run stopper, a decent pass protector, and an occasional blitzer (it's not his strong suit, he's quick and powerful, but big OL can stop him easily).

What happens next all depends on if he fits your scheme, and can stay healthy, and return to his 2009 form. The only problem is if he continues to regress, then you have a really expensive below average LB. And he was one of my favorite players, so I wish Clint and the Jaguars all the luck in '11, just not against the Colts!
