Multiple sources, including Jay Glazer of Fox Sports are reporting that the Jaguars have released defensive end Derrick Harvey today:
Wow, Jaguars run out of patience for former recent first-round pick Derrick Harvey, releasing him today.
The 2008 1st round pick represented the last remaining player on the Jaguars from the 2008 draft class. The Jaguars traded away a plethora of picks to move from the 26th pick to the 8th pick to acquire Harvey. He leaves the Jaguars with a disappointing eight sacks through three seasons, despite seeing action in all but one game and starting in 32.
Harvey's departure isn't necessarily surprising as he was due roughly $2.8 million in 2011 and an additional $3.2 million in 2012. With the signing of Paul Posluszny, Clint Session and the impending negotiations with Dawan Landry, the Jaguars likely found it advantageous to dump the $3 million salary of a player with very little chance of even contributing, let alone starting.
