Could Jaguars Bring Back Vince Manuwai?

Photo

Adam Stites tweeted on twitter how amazing it was the polar opposite reactions on twitter to the releases of defensive end Derrick Harvey and offensive guard Vince Manuwai. One was considered a joke, the other was almost mourned with admiration and respect. Of course, that's going to happen when one guy plays his tail off at a high level while the other seems to just go through the motions.

Gene Frenette tweeted that Manuwai said today he had a torn ligament in his foot, which makes it easy to see why he showed up out of shape. I don't know for sure how the injury occured or the timetable for it, but cutting Manuwai saved the Jaguars $3.5 million according to Frenette. Tania Ganguli was asked on twitter itf it was possible that Manuwai could re-sign with the Jaguars at a lower salary, which Ganguli seemed to think was very possible.

In all honesty, that'd be a very good move by the Jaguars. If they can bring back Manuwai at a lower salary, even if he doesn't start he'd offer fantastic depth on the interior line. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see that happen.

hey alfie

tania also said that she sees the jags definitely signing 4, probably 5, and maybe 6 ufa’s tonight. Is that including Spitz and Turk? because the Jags just freed up even more cap space and they already have agreements with 4 guys and then Landry. Isn’t it fairly promising that they will get another defensive player after Landry with the extra money they now have?

+1

ONLY if he’s healed and in shape, I agree completely… otherwise what’s the point of having depth if you can’t properly use ’em when the time comes?

Exactly

Vince fresh can be a big benefit come late in the season.. when he replaced Smiley last November after his back injury he was a beast for 3-4 games.. unfortunately he seemed to get gassed going into December. But if we need him for 3-4 games he could (like last year) make a big impact in a few games. Be nice to have him going into the playoffs just in case.

The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the first article was Wilford last year

Release Vince now, then sign him the day after the opener to a reduced contract and either throw him on PUP or IR.

What would be the point of putting him on IR ?

He is not the future of the position, this is probably his last year here anyway.

well, think back to 2008

you can’t have enough experienced big uglies.

True, if he's on IR

he’s out for the season, and still costs the team. I don’t see that happening.

I like the idea…he’d be good for depth and also a great teacher for Rackley

we dont need vinny. as good as a run blocker he is to me hes a liability in the passing game. to many times last year a blitz str8 up the middle of our line didnt get picked up at all. not just his fault but thats why we got rackley and spitz. qb has no chance if you cant pick the blitz up in the middle. jags are moving on if you cant keep in shape then you aint playing in jville. vinnys foot wasnt to injured to walk to the fridge and gain 20 pounds, and pot roast is next if he dont shape up. gene can and will replace thoughs who dont care go jags

by jagfan4life on Jul 29, 2011 2:10 PM EDT reply actions

Harsh much?

He has a torn ligament in his foot. What do you expect him to do? The man can’t run so how is he supposed to stay in shape? Pot roast isnt going anywhere. Also, I’d rather have a guard who is a great run blocker than one who is average at run and pass considering our team runs the ball between 60-70% of the time.

Quick science lesson: If you can’t workout, you’re typically going to gain weight no matter what you eat.

hey alfie

how much space do we have left under the cap? you know

by Dwalk1217 on Jul 29, 2011 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

about 40.

I’d say, because we didn’t sign those FA’s yet. The rookies, and UDFA put us at 34, plus Manuwai and harvey leaving paid for the rookie salaries, plus about 1.5-2 Mill. Then Posluszny would bring us to 33. Minus the guard and the punter, I’d say about 29. Then Session would bring us to 23. So 23 Million. Minus Landry would be about 16-17. This could be wrong, but this is a guess.

are you talking mainly about Manuwai?
if so, then can’t you eat a balanced diet knowing your workouts are limited? (cuz he can’t possibly have been doing absolutely no exercise if it’s only his foot)

if not, then disregard. carry on with the updates. nice work, sir.

Its sad

that his injury kept him from staying in shape..

but you are right. At this point, our team’s depth needs young healthy players, not fat injured vets.

If a starter gets injured, the young guy should be getting real time. This realistically isn’t a superbowl year for us, so getting our 1-3 yr players some reps this year would probably be the best thing for us

Jenkins?

:(

We have Jason Hill and Cecil Shorts III

i’d rather see a DB than another WR
