Should the Jags Pursue a Osi Umenyiora Trade?
The Jags need a pass rusher desperately. I think we should trade for Osi. Would he be a good fit for our system and would he be a good fit in our locker room? He's a veteran and when happy seems to light up quarter backs. We need someone who can get to Peyton Manning and Matt Schaub. With a rebuild secondary I think we need to turn our attention to the pass rush. If not Osi then who is available or who is next man up that can get the job done?

I wouldnt mind it, but i dont think Gene would..
Aaron Kampman and Austen Lane are two guys Gene believes in..its just not something i could see happening, but im totally up for it if We get him, it would definitely help a lot.
What if its not a First
What if its only a 2nd in 2012 and a 5th in 2013? It would be worth it then wouldn’t it?
at this point
They only want a first. But we’ve gone through 2 drafts without a 2nd round pick. Osi is getting old and I rather have a solid 21 or so yr old 2nd round pick than him

Is it finally time to draft a QB?
Think about it...
1. If the Giants are letting him go so easily, there might be a medical issue
2. Why would you trade if they might let him walk anyway?
3. What and/or who would you trade? A draft pick? Matihs? Green? For a beat up Osi?!? I think not.
Easily?
They want a first rounder for him

last year, yes. This year? No
We need to see what we have in Lane and Mincey. You lose a guy like Lane early in his career (figuratively speaking where he thinks the team does not feel he can do the job) you may not get him back.
I agree
I agree about Lane but my concern was for Kampman. I don’t know if he can stay healthy. And you can never have to many pass rushers
If health is your primary concern...
then Osi is not the guy we want. He missed the 2008 season with knee surgery and had hip surgery this offseason. He hasn’t been cleared to play yet. He’s played for 7 seasons and is already 29. Plus, he wants a new contract – and since his numbers were almost identical to Charles Johnson’s – expect him to be asking for that money.
NO WAY!
Fidelis Ad Mortem
I hear what your saying
but i think that only happens with a certain type of guy and i don’t think they have any of those guys on the roster.

NO
Kampman is our right end, he’s a great pass rusher, who isn’t to bad against the run either. Lane is ok at both, but getting better at both. If they both stay healthy I can see these stats.
Aaron Kampman: 9 sacks.
Austen Lane: 6 sacks.
Jeremy Mincey: 4 sacks.
Tyson Alualu: 5 sacks.
Terrance Knighton: 4 sacks.
Larry Hart: 2 sacks.
Aaron Morgan: 3 sacks.
Thats 35 sacks of the d-line. Then add the linebackers.
Daryl Smith: 4 sacks
Paul Posluszny: 2 sacks.
Clint Session: 3 sacks.
Thats 44 sacks total. Then maybe that Marc Schiechl guy get 3-4 sacks if he makes the roster. He
ll definetley be a Jag through the roster, IR, or the practice squad.

Matt Turk might be good for a sack or 2
And you left out Prosinski who will no doubt hit double digit sacks.

I left out Coleman
who will get say 3 sacks. So 47 sacks.

Don't forget about Del Rio
He was a solid pass-rusher in his day. Probably good for 4-5 sacks.

Impressive that
Poz has 3 sacks in his career, but will get 3 this season. And Session has 1.5 in his career and will get 3, too. Good news!
Fidelis Ad Mortem
well.
I put Poz down for 2, and Session never had “the beef up front” so he’ll get sacks like Clay Matthews does, no block, just run and hit.

yes we do.
Our defense is going to be top knotch, and only 2 of our starters are above 30, Aaron and Rashean.

This
could actually work.
The other suggestions, not so much.

I for one suggest something referencing the defensive coordinator
something along the lines of “The defense formerly known as Tucker’s Suckers”
About the only thing Session brings consistently is blitzing ability, getting pressure on 29.1% of the 79 times he’s blitzed over the past three years. But you shouldn’t be paying a linebacker $6m a year to do that.

This isn't that crazy, as far as the D line goes
IF Kampman is healthy all year, its not crazy to think he can pile up 8-9 sacks. He was on that pace last season before the injury.
Lane I’m not sure about, I love his progress, I love that he is getting better but idk if it will translate to the field just yet.. But if it does I can see 5-6 sacks out of him. 4 sacks, Mincey showed he could get that last year.
Alualu is gonna be better this year, I think he will be better at getting off blocks and will b more conditioned so I can see a 2-3 sack improvement with better run D as well. And the better Alualu gets easier it gets for Knighton.
With a better sacondary, i think that gives more time for speed guys to get around that edge. so I could see 3-4 sacks between Hart and Morgan.
I cant see the sacks come from the LBs like that. At best they may have 1 a piece.

I know,

I think you’ll be suprised as to what our front four are going to be doing this year…and if you wanna rush one of the LBs we have every now and again to keep the QBs guessing it’ll be chaos in their backfield all year.
Our secondary is shaping up real good with youth and expeirence…. LB corps looks awesome too…
With the new addition to our O line they’ll stop the rush and make holes big enough that Mojo can dance through….
TEs great…
WRs… don’t really think much needs to be done there either
Special teams… well we had the best last season so they’ll be even better this year…
No.

IDK if this is being discussed on a national level,
but the word in NY is Jets might be able to get Osi for a second rounder
really?! you want the Jets defense to get even better?!
not saying the Jags should get him, but at least som other team gets him would be the better thing to hope for
as long as this is an offense driven league, I like my chances against the Jets.
Sanchez has yet to prove he can beat a team on his own and they have a 37 year old receiver who just got out of prison and a 32 year old running back who does not have much tread left on the tires. Not to mention they lost Jenkins and Woody.
Someone had said
that the Jets are going to crash and burn very soon. and I can’t help but agree with that statement.
Rex Ryan threw a lot of money at a lot of old players, and actually managed to land a few playoff appearances. But doing that won’t give you a Superbowl franchise team. He already lost a lot of the big name players that he brought to New York, and the younger guys just won’t cut it on their own. And the old ones will be bad or off the roster in a year or two, with Rex Ryan never claiming one of his “guarantee’d” Super Bowl titles.
I will never be surprised to hear the Jets going after a big name vet as long as Rex Ryan is the HC there.

With Rex Ryan
Osi could very very dangerous, I think alot of people hear what he says all the time and forget is arguably the best defensive mind in football right now.

I wouldn't trade a 1st frounder for Osi, but a 3rd?....maybe
I don’t agree with the people that keep bringing up Lane’s development as a reason to “not” try for an Osi Umenyiora trade. In todays NFL, they generally have a “rotation” on the DL, and adding Osi would only make the Jags DE rotation that much stronger. It wouldn’t hurt Lane’s development – he will still get his snaps.
I wouldn’t pay more than a 3rd rounder, though. Its going to cost a lot in terms of a new contract and I think its never a smart idea to pay a 1st rounder or more in trade compensation only to also have to pay a lot of cash as well. 3rd rounder is the highest I’d go. Tell the Giants to take it or leave it.
I agree with this.
I wouldn’t want to see a 1st or 2nd round go for him, especially with the way Gene Smith has been scooping up young talent.
We could probably use a top DE in the first or 2nd round of the 2012 draft to fill in for Kampman in a year or two. Osi wouldn’t really fit here unless we are making a go at the Superbowl this year. Which I would love to see, but I would love even more to see our young guys take us there.
by SexonvilleShaguars on Aug 2, 2011 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions
Now they want only a 2nd rounder.
I think thats very cheap for a guy who is 29, had 11.5 sacks, and played 16 full games. No injury, but AK is in that spot, unless we have 2 pass rushers at both ends.
"thanks for hating"
Hre missed the entire '08 season after knee surgery
and he had hip surgery this offseason. He still isn’t cleared to practice yet by the Giants medical staff.
However, if they drop to a 3rd rounder, I’m in! :)
