Jaguars & Falcons To Practice Wednesday
The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to hold a joint practice this Wednesday afternoon. The Jaguars traveled up to Flowery Branch last offseason to spend a few days with the Falcons, and they're returning the favor this offseason. The Falcons will spend one practice with the Jaguars out at the Florida Blue Practice Fields before their match up on Friday night.
Unfortunately, this practice is not open to the public, but if you're a member of Team Teal, you can RSVP on their website and attend the practice. I'll be out at the practice and will have a report on some of my observations the next morning. Click the jump to see some things that I'll be looking for.
The Quarterbacks
I'll be paying close attention to the quarterbacks in the joint practice. Both David Garrard and rookie Blaine Gabbert will be going against another football team, one that should have a pretty good defense in 2011. It will be interesting to see how each fairs practicing against different people than they're used to.
Pass Rush
With Matt Roth running with the first team, I'll be paying close attention to what the Jaguars pass rush looks like going up against a set of different offensive lineman. Some players looked promising in training camp, but disappeared during the first preseason game last Thursday night against the New England Patriots. We'll get a good idea if some guys looked good because of whom they were facing in practice.
Wide Receivers
The Jaguars receivers have been an area of much discussion and concern during the offseason and in training camp. Jason Hill didn't look like he was bothered by the humidity up in Foxboro last Thursday and had a nice showing. Drops have plagues the group all training camp and reared its ugly head for all to see in the game last Thursday. We'll need to pay attention to how they get open and catch the ball against the Falcons secondary.

I am most curious about ...
… Cecil Shorts, and the guys competing for Britton’s job. I think Britton is toast for this season.
Britton worries me too....
I’m tired of seeing our team have O-Line problems. It seems like it’s a broken record. I know it’s only the first preseason game, but I don’t have a lot of opitisim. O-line that can’t pass protect, D-line that can’t get to the quarterback. Hopefully it’s only my pessimism, and I hope by the first week of the season our lines are dominating, but I don’t see it happening. I hope I’m wrong.

fair ennough
I just was curious if don’t care for was referring to liking them or liking them to succeed due to lack of talent, becuase they are not without talent on that roster

I like the team, but there is so much about the Falcons that reminds me of the Jaguars 2008 team
only difference is they have what they feel is an elite qb. He’s good, but I need to see more postseason success.
WTF?
How did this Ryan kid get a nickname like that so fast? Look what the “Ice” did in the playoffs last year. It’s funny and sad at the same time.
The nickname followed him from college
And I like the falcons personally. Mike smith is as classy as they come. Really wish we had promoted him while he was still here

As rusty904 said...he's had that nickname since BC.
Right about the time he led a BC Eagles team with no good WRs to the #2 ranking in the country. (They also had a pretty good defense)
Fidelis Ad Mortem
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Super. Good for him.

Matt ryans stats are terribly misleading though
He plays in a very heavy run offense so he never puts up huge stats and he also throws the ball away like 5 times a game to avoid sacks. Factor that in for all 16 games and of course his completion percentage will be lower. He’s one of the smartest qbs in the league though which is represented by the fact that he already many game winning drives. Oh and he’s like 32-16 as a starter and he hasn’t had a great defense like guys like Sanchez and flacco so there’s really no argument if you know what you are talking about. This year he will have larger numbers and win some playoff games

Dude can make the throws.
I remember when I was on a cruise and saw the Thursday nighter against the Ravens. That sideline throw was nails. Just want to see more out of him in the postseason.
Best BC quarterback since Glenn Foley.
"He plays in a very heavy run offense so he never puts up huge stats"
That sounds vaguely familiar. Where have I heard that before?

I hate when we play the Falcons because we have to see the coach we let get away on the other sideline. The guy that actually knew how to teach NFL defense, unlike the keystone cops flunkies we are stuck with now.
I wish the Falcons would let Mel Tucker “Get on the Bus” back to ATL. Love that catchy jingle, but seeing Arthur Blank bob his head to the music is a little creepy.
