After Training Camp Roster Prediction
So we've learned quite a few things about the Jaguars roster since training camp began three weeks ago and with camp now over, let's take a look at who's going to make the final 53, the practice squad, and who will be getting a visit from the Turk.
Offense (27):
QB: David Garrard, Blaine Gabbert, and Luke McCown (3)
RB: Maurice Jones-Drew, Rashad Jennings, and Deji Karim (3)
FB: Greg Jones, Montell Owens, and Brock Bolen (3)
WR1: Jason Hill, Cecil Shorts, and Kassim Osgood
WR2: Mike Thomas, Jarrett Dillard, Armon Binns (6 Total)
TE: Marcedes Lewis, Zach Miller, and Joey Haynos (3)
LT: Eugene Monroe and Guy Whimper (2)
LG: Jason Spitz and Will Rackley (2)
C: Brad Meester (1)
RG: Uche Nwaneri and Tony Moll (2)
RT: Eben Britton and Daniel Baldridge (2)
Defense (23)
LE: Aaron Kampman and Austen Lane (2)
RE: Matt Roth, Jeremy Mincey, and Aaron Morgan (3)
DT1: Terrance Knighton and Leger Douzable
DT2: Tyson Alualu and D'Anthony Smith (4 Total)
LOLB: Clint Session and Kyle Bosworth (2)
MLB: Paul Posluuzny and Michael Lockley (2)
ROLB: Daryl Smith and Scott Lutrus (2)
CB1: Rashean Mathis and Drew Coleman
CB2: Derek Cox and Rod Issac (4 Total)
FS: Dawan Landry and Chris Prosinski (2)
SS: Courtney Greene and Michael Hamlin (2)
Special Teams (3)
K: Josh Scobee (1)
P: Matt Turk (1)
LS: Jeremy Cain (1)
PS (8):
DE Ray Odrick
OG Wade Grayson
RB DuJuan Harris
WR Jamar Newsome
Notables The Turk will be visiting:
CB David Jones (Some believe he's played better this preseason, but its not enough to make the roster)
CB William Middleton (I really wanted to keep Middleton)
FS Don Carey (Do I have to provide an explanation?)
DE Larry Hart (His low playing time and when he played in the Atlanta game are very telling in my opinion)
LB Russell Allen (A really though cut, but I think Bosworth has played better and Lutrus has more potential)
RS Scotty McGee (He can only really do one thing and Deji is better than him at it and also plays a more important position)
TE Zach Potter (The signing of Haynos makes Potter cuttable)
WR Tiquan Underwood (Our favorite player to hate is finally leaving)
Let me know what you think.

I don't think there is anyway
we enter the season with Rod Isaac as our only back-up Corner. Especially considering none of your safeties are the combo D-back kind.
Yeah I know but its either have Rod Issac or go too thin on the OL or DL.

Out of Baldridge, Whimper and Moll, one of them won’t be here. DuJuan Harris won’t clear waivers, either.
We will keep 5 CB’s. Can’t imagine Russell Allen not making it.

Do we really need 3 FBs?
I say drop Bolen. Keep Terrence Wheatly or Russell Allen.
Fidelis Ad Mortem
Yeah that’s the one position I’m reconsidering

I thought we had him penciled in as opening day starter...
and defensive rookie of the year, and a Pro Bowl spot???
Fidelis Ad Mortem
That’s a possibility but I think/hope he’s over the injury bug now. Also I don’t want to keep Carey

I don't see Gene Smith giving up on two draft picks after one year, especially when one was on IR.
Obviously last year Hart was too small and needed to get bigger and stronger. Well he has gotten bigger and now everyone is ready to take the torches and pitchforks to him and run him out of town. You drafted McGhee to return kicks and he got hurt and everyone is calling for his head b/c he hasn’t returned a kick for a TD yet in two preseason games. As with Russell Allen, I think he is a decent backup. I am not ready to give up on him yet either. I don’t know why we need 3 fullbacks. I think Potter stays over Haynos.
I'm done with
Allen
Personally I say we should just keep 2 TE’s, with one on the PS as security and have a OT provide the extra blocking if we need to.

Is it finally time to draft a QB?

me too
he has impressed, and i think he’s better than Douz. As he can create a pass rush, and fill those gaps, so the back has nowhere to go, but outside, where hopefully our DE can cotnain him, and force him to cut back inside, and our LBs can clean up.

All of this at the end
of a preseason game. You can play Douzable at both DT spots, he stays.

Guess that's why they call him
Re-usable Douzable…
Or I call him that…

I'd rather cut
DA Smith. He’s very athletic yes, but I don’t know if there is a place for him here because of numbers and scheme.
He's never taken
a snap in a real game. Isn’t that a bit soon?

Lots of players
get cut in training camp. To me, it doesn’t matter if he was drafted or injured. All I care is how he looks on the field.
If Underwood is still on the team
No way they’re quitting on D’Anthony that soon.

That's dumb.
No way anybody behind Smith is better than him.
He’s never played a single down for the team. They’ll give him at least a year to prove himself.

My thoughts
exactly.

Actually I wasn’t distinguishing between the DT spots.

Gallarda
has been a disappointment catching the ball, not showing the sure hands. So forget about him.
No one carries a punter on the PS. If you need another punter go out and find one. Don’t waste a spot on your PS.
I don’t like either Ray or Schiechl to find a spot on our PS, especially with the depth we got there.
We are not gonna carry 6 LB’s, especially 3 first year players. You can store at least one of them on the PS.
One way or another I think Whitehead makes the team or PS. And I’m almost sure Wheatley and or David Jones will make the team. We can’t have enough CB’s, and JDR/Gene Smith has said as much.
Yeah agree on Gallarda. I put him on there based on his early performance in camp. Miller is probably a better option as he can play two positions (TE and LS). I put Bowden on the roster since our Turk is close to 50 and I wanna have a readily available backup. Putting both Ray and Schiechl on the PS might be a bit of over kill. I’d actually prefer to keep Ray since I think he’s been playing well and it looks like Schiechl hasn’t done a whole lot. I put Lutrus, Lockley, and Bosworth as the backups at LB because I think their the best options. David Jones is crap and will not make the team. Wheatley is okay and still stands a chance. Oh and Whitehead? Too bad he was cut today. Now I could see Kevin Rutland or Jalil Johnson making the PS.

I also think
Kevin Rutland and Jalil Johnson have a chance of getting on the PS. Estes may also find his way onto the roster. With Meester being older, I’d prefer to back him up with someone a little younger.
Nwaneri, Spitz, and Rackley can all play center. I don’t think Estes or Vierling are good enough to make the roster but one could end up on the practice squad. Plus with how Gene Smith likes to get linemen early in the draft we could get Meester’s replacement next year in 4-time all-american Mike Brewster.

So what if he plays at Ohio State. He’s the best center in all of cfb and hasn’t missed a game in the three years that he’s played so far. He’s an all-american and a team captain. He’s what Gene looks for in 1st rounders
