I Have Questions
I'm not quite as plugged in as many of you and have been out of town for a while, and wondered if y'all would help me out by answering a few easy questions.
1. I don't know much about Estrada (do we call him Ponch?), how has he looked so far? Does he have a chance to make the roster ahead of Don Carey, who has never done much to impress any of us?
2. Where is the weakness on the O Line once Britton comes back? Is it inexperience with the guards? Britton's pass blocking? Do we think Uchi is a long-term fixture?
3. In the Atlanta game I was very impressed with DuJuan Harris ... really quick, and he made good, fast decisions. Does he have a chance to make the roster? Does he return kicks? I don't see us keeping McGee just to return punts, would that open up a spot for Harris? I will be disappointed if he doesn't make at least the practice squad.
4 Who are our two best corners after Mathis and Cox? I haven't seen much about the rookie beyond the fact they want to try him at safety ... is he a keeper?
That's a start, I'm sure I'll have more. Thank you for your responses!

Well
1. Estrada was having a really good camp until he got injured. He has been on the mend for the last couple of weeks so we haven’t seen him in a live game yet. If he has two good showings in the last preseason games he probably has a good shot to make the roster.
2. To be frank the entire O-line with the exception of Meester has had some struggles so far. Even with Britton coming back I don’t see it as a magic solution to the problems. It won’t solve Monroe getting caught using bad technique. Won’t help Rackley’s inexperience. And won’t fix Uche’s inconsistency.
3. I wouldn’t expect Harris to make the opening day roster. At the moment Murphy appears higher on the depth chart than Harris and there is just to much talent in front of him at the running back position. He hasn’t been seen returning punts or kicks.
4. Although I’m sure I will get some who disagree with me, I feel that after Cox and Mathis D.Jones and W. Middleton our are best corners. I didn’t say Coleman because he is primarily a nickel and if a injury were to happen to Cox or Mathis he would likely stay at the nickel back spot. As for Isaac, the reports were that he played better aainst the Falcons than he did against the Patriots. He is moving to safety and there isn’t much else on that.

Middleton got cut, and if Coleman can’t play the outside why did he start 4 games for the jets playing for an injured Darrelle Revis, and Jets fans said he did a good job. Jones can’t cover anybody, Coleman is the #4, then its probably Rod Issac, David Jones can’t cover. And he’s not “moving to safety”, they’re trying him at safety, that doesn’t make the move permanent. They want to explore their options, they want to see how he fits, if it doesn’t work, he’s strictly a CB(dime-nickel), if it does work, he will be a swingback.

you're right
that’s wierd, I remember reading he was cut, and I was like “Hmm, that’s strange, why would he get cut so early.” Maybe it was in a dream, lol.

Everyone will probably give you a slightly different answer, but here it goes
1. Estrada for all intents and purposes is probably playing for a PS roster spot. Already got too many numbers at the spot with better known commodities. (Greene, Landry, Prosinski, Rod, Carey) 3 is usually enough if you like what you got.
2. The biggest weakness is at RT still, even if Britton comes back. Fortunately the line as a whole can get better once they build some cohesion.
3. I really like Harris too, but there is no way he will make the team without an injury. The team already likes 6 “RB’s” in front of him, which is a lot already.(MJD, Jennings, Karim, Greg Jones, Brock Bolen, Owens) He could make the practice squad, but I would say that his chances are about 50-50.
4. If you’re just talking true CB’s and not NB’s or DB’s, I would go with Wheatley and Jones. Middleton is a physical guy, but he makes almost no plays on the ball and he has extremely stiff hips. Wheatley has always been a good player when healthy, but he was rarely healthy. He was a second round pick by the Pats if that says anything about his potential and ability. Coleman is a good player, but primarily in the box, kind of like a third safety or as a blitzer. He’s not a good turn and run CB which is what we need in our system on the outside. He’s only a 4.55 40 guy.
