My 2011 NFL Season Predictions

I probably should have been studying this morning for my Actuarial Exam that is next Wednesday, but instead I decided to take a look at the upcoming season and make some predictions. So without further ado, here they are.

JAGUAR SEASON PREDICTION

WEEK

OPPONENT

MY THOUGHTS

RECORD

1

TENN

Tennessee is a team that really has fallen quite significantly over the past few years. However, they still have CJ and he will be playing Week 1 barring an injury this preseason. Even with our upgraded defense, I find it hard to see him not getting at least one TD and rushing for around 100 yards. Either way, the Jaguars really seem to be the better team and so I have to chalk this one up as a win.

1-0

2

@NYJ

There are many Jets haters out there, and I am right up there with the best of them. However, the Jets happen to be a pretty darned good team, and between their VERY GOOD defense and the WR combo of Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress, I am just not sure the Jags have a win in them.

1-1

3

@CAR

I do believe the Panthers are a better team this year than last year, but are they that much better?!! I will argue they are improved enough that this game won’t be as much of a “sure thing” win as many people would think. Regardless I think the Jaguars will be winning this game.

2-1

4

NO

Call me nuts, but the Saints are underrated. They have enormous amounts of talent, especially with some of those rookies they brought in this year through the draft. I anticipate this game to be relatively close early on, but by the second half, the Saints will clearly show their superiority.

2-2

5

CIN

Rookie QB with a rookie WR as his only real threat. Couple that with an offensive Coordinator with no NFL experience and I think we have ourselves a team that should be easily beaten. Chalk this one up for the good guys.

3-2

6

@PITT

And the tough stretch begins with the defending AFC champs. They haven’t gotten worse, so I find it hard to believe that the Jags can pull a win out here, especially playing in Pittsburgh.

3-3

7

BAL

A lot more winnable of a game that I originally thought. Flacco is good but as times he can look pedestrian. He also does not have as many legitimate receiving options as in the past. I envision Landry playing with a bit of a burden on his shoulder seeing how he wanted to go back to Baltimore. After some deliberating I am actually going to chalk this up as a win.

4-3

8

@HOU

I think the Texans and Jags are going to play a freaking incredible set of two games this coming season. I see them as two teams on the rise and poised to take hold of the division in the next few years. Simply put the teams are pretty even matched and so I am going to give each team the win at home.

4-4

10

@IND

Regardless of talent, the Jags and Colts always seem to play each other pretty evenly. Seeing as I do not really know much detail regarding Peyton and his injury, I find it hard to accurately gauge what the Colts will be about this season. Either way I think the Jags will be pulling off one win against the Colts, and I think this game I the more likely win seeing as it is earlier in the season and Manning might still be feeling some ill effects of this nerve-related injury.

5-4

11

@CLE

Cleveland is still not very good. They lost their defensive coordinator who I do believe did have something to with some of their “flashes of brilliance” last year. The Jaguars are the superior team, and I do believe that with this improved LB group, Hillis will be much less of a weapon for the Browns.

6-4

12

HOU

See Week 8

7-4

13

SD

San Diego is a very good team, and they definitely should not be underestimated. As much as I would love to see the Jags avenge last years embarrassing performance, I do not see it happening.

7-5

14

TB

A very impressive Tampa Bay team is going to be a tough team to beat. While I definitely think a win is not such a farfetched possibility, I am too impressed with Freeman and his offensive weapons to predict a win for the Jaguars

7-6

15

@ATL

Maybe if when they come down to Jacksonville to practice, the Jaguars manage to sneak a mole onto the Falcons roster who can get the Jags important info about the gameplan come week 15, I do not see this game ending too positively for the Jaguars

7-7

16

@TENN

Titans are going to be dwelling in the bottom of the AFC South this season, and they won’t be getting a win here.

8-7

17

IND

This could be a win, but I gave the Jaguars the win in week 10, so I am chalking this one up as a loss

8-8
