The Jaguars opened as10 point dogs against the Jets in week two. There is only one bigger spread for all the NFL games this week. I find this to be very interesting considering our run defense against the Titans. We were outstanding shutting down arguably the best NFL running back to 24 yards and a 2.7 yd carry average. Not to mention the Titans are widely considered to have of the better Olines in the league. The Jets running game was shut down by DALLAS. The Cowboys run defense still has more to prove than just about any team in the NFL. The Jags should have no problems containing Shonne Greene and LT.
So what exactly is Vegas thinking? They must believe that Mark Sanchez is going to light up our secondary. That, my friends, is a real gamble. The Jets definitely have better WR's with Burress, Holmes, and Mason than most teams. I happen to think that our CB's will match up well. Cox has the size to match up with Burress. Mathis will get beat by Homes on occasion but he can limit the damage, too.
The other logical conclusion is that Vegas believes the Jets can stop our run game and Luke will make mistakes. That has yet to be determined. That is another big gamble for Vegas. The Jags have a better chance to "run the ball up their a**," as Coach Ryan likes to say then they do to Jacksonville. A heathly MJD and Karim can take it to the house at any time. The Jets RB's simply aren't huge threats. If Jacksonville can run the ball, the Jags will win. Jacksonville just showed they can run pretty daggum good this past weekend.
