Jaguars 53-Man Roster Prediction
We're having a friendly little contest between myself, Brad Hill of JaguarsBlog.com, Shane Clemons of TheJaggernaut.com, and Zoltan of BlackAndTeal.com with the 53-man roster. We're each doing a prediction and seeing who can be the most accurate.
After the jump is my 53-man prediction, along with some players I think could wind up "stashed" on injured reserve. One guy I know who won't make the roster however is Blake Gabbert. C'mon CBS47.... HOW MANY PRESEASON GAMES Y'ALL GONNA DO THIS?
QB - David Garrard, Luke McCown, Blaine Gabbert
RB/FB - Maurice Jones-Drew, Rashad Jennings*, Deji Karim, Greg Jones, Montell Owens, Brock Bolen
TE - Marcedes Lewis, Zach Miller, Zach Potter
WR - Mike Thomas, Jason Hill, Cecil Shorts, Jarett Dillard, Kassim Osgood, Jamar Newsome
OL - Eugene Monroe, Eben Britton, Will Rackley, Uche Nwaneri, Brad Meester, Jason Spitz, Guy Whimper, Tony Moll
DE - Aaron Kampman, Jeremy Mincey, Matt Roth, Austen Lane
DT - Terrance Knighton, Tyson Alualu, Leger Douzable, Nate Collins, D'Anthony Smith
LB - Daryl Smith, Paul Posluszny, Clint Session, Kyle Bosworth, Russell Allen, Jacob Cutrera
CB - Rashean Mathis, Derrek Cox, Drew Coleman, David Jones, William Middleton
S - Dawan Landry, Courtney Greene, Chris Prosinski, Rod Issac
ST - Josh Scobee, Matt Turk, Jeremy Cain
I put an asterisk next to Jennings name, because we have no idea the severity of his injury. If it's serious and he winds up on injured reserve, I believe DuJuan Harris would take his roster spot. Harris, in all likelyhood, winds up on the practice squad.
Some other possible IR stashes: D'Anthony Smith, Larry Hart, and Aaron Morgan. I don't have any of the three making it because neither of the three have really done anything to warrant it. Smith and Hart are both injured and missed the final game. Smith, in my opinion, hasn't shown anything at all coming off his Achilles injury which is what I warned everyone about. Those can easily be career killers and I just don't think he's there yet. Hart I would just flat out cut, as he's shown absolutely nothing.
The tough part is figuring out where the team will go light or heavy.
EDIT: I had only 52, apparently. Fixed it.

As for the 53 man roster...
I’d rather go light (5 vs. 6) on WR and lock up DuJuan Harris. I REALLY like the way he plays and I don’t care if he is Deji Jr. – I like Deji, too.
If Gene Smith is true to what he said during his extended interview with Burmeister/Boselli, they are going to keep the top 53 players. Harris is one of the top 53, imo. I don’t think he can be hidden on the PS.
lulz @ Blake Gabbert
I didn’t catch that.

McGowen was a one game wonder
I’ve never heard his name since, but Blake is a 1st round rookie. I’ll take Blake to be the next Joe Montanya.

Possible Waiver Wire picks
Two guys that are on the bubble, that will be very good players in this league and are young are WR Marlon Moore and CB Nolan Carroll, both currently with the Dolphins and both on the bubble. With Moore, its just a matter of #s. Miami has a track record of choosing the wrong WR to let go (Welker, Armstrong with the Redskins, Armashadu (SP) with the Bears). Moore is a big play receiver and would be a great #3 or 4 for us.
Carroll is a local product (Green Cove Springs) and had a very solid rookie year last year. Reports are that he has regressed a bit this year, but last year, he was in the nickel and dime package for the #5 ranked defense in the league. He can cover and has speed, and not that we need it but he is a kick-off and punt returner too. The return of veteran Will Allen to the Dolphins is the only reason he’s being let go. He could be a starter in the next season or so. I really like him for the Jags.
Both are in their 2nd years and will only get better, really high ceilings on them.
good eye with Moore.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him in black and teal over Newsome. He looked good in preseason

and actually..
since we let MSW go to the Rams, now the Rams are overloaded at Receiver.
Wouldn’t it be nice to snatch Pettis or Salas off of them if they don’t make the roster?

So now we’re going to carry 4-5 quarterbacks on the roster?
David Garrard
Luke McCown
Luke McGowen
Blaine Gabbert and his brother
Blake Gabbert

Here's a prediction.
Garrard doesn’t make the roster.

Looks about right
Although I would cut Garrard and Middleton. Garrard for obvious reasons and Middleton because you signed Coleman, drafted Issac, and have David Jones that can play that nickel position, how many guys do you need to do the same thing?
And if it came down to keeping Morgan or Smith, I’d go with Morgan, I’ve seen more out of him, not much more but more. Plus he was an undrafted guy last year that has added a lot of weight but seems just as quick, I’d like to see him develop a little more, but hey thats just me.
I had hope for Hart but.. I don’t see how he makes it.. unless its on IR.

Lane
Look I like the guy, and his heart is unstoppable, but as far as gameplay? he is out of position frequently, and he cant get off blocks, People want to throw Garrard under the bus, but still love the “upside” on this guy? makes no sense to me, if we are gonna cut(or ask that the jags cut) Garrard, I have to wonder why Lane is still on this team, Same thing with Jason Hill, he is playing uninspired these days, Heck put Newsome out there, or get someone off the vaiver wire, THAT CAN CATCH THE BALL!!!
Go easy on CBS47
It’s just the preseason…

Is it finally time to draft a QB?
by TheTealDeal on Sep 2, 2011 3:08 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
yes
because hes talented, can be a returner, and possibly a danny woodhead project.

We always find good backs.
If only we were that good finding WRs and DEs.

DuJuan Harris
I am Troy grad, and I liked what DuJaun did at Troy, which is dominate the Sun Belt. He is a very good football player and it would thrill me if he makes the team.
I also like that Blake guy!
