Aaron Wilson of National Football Post is reporting on Twitter that the Jaguars have begun to cut their roster down to the 53 that they need to have by tomorrow. Wilson reports the Jaguars have released DT Andrew Lewis, PR/CB Scotty McGee, WR Armon Binns, LB Scott Lutrus and WR Dontrelle Inmon.
While none of the cuts are especially surprising or shocking, the releasing of the return specialist McGee represents the second Gene Smith draft pick to be released by the Jaguars, following the recent release of wide receiver Tiquan Underwood. McGee, a 6th round draft pick in 2010, spent his rookie season on the injured reserve and failed to impress in the preseason of his sophomore campaign.
One of these releases was made to make room for Fred Taylor on the roster, but after Taylor's one day contract expires the Jaguars will need to release 22 more players before tomorrow's deadline.
