Samsung Game Ball: Maurice Jones-Drew

Stay connected for news and updates

The Samsung Game Ball of the Week is an easy one this week, right? Jacksonville Jaguars Maurice Jones-Drew plodded through a rainstorm and broke some big runs for the Jaguars offense. Jones-Drew finally broke the 100 yards rushing barrier that has been well within his grasp in the first two weeks of the season, netting 122 yards on the ground with an average of 5.1 yards per carry. After three weeks, Jones-Drew has 307 yards rushing and is on pace for over 1,600 yards rushing.

Jones-Drew didn't just do it on the ground, however. He also did it in the passing game, which seemed to be missing from his game last season. He had 3 receptions for 45 yards, including a 24 yard gain on a screen pass from rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Normally I try to avoid giving game balls to Jones-Drew, because he's always an easy choice. Given the circumstances and flow of the game against the Carolina Panthers however, he deserved it.
