Report: Jaguars place RB Rashad Jennings on Injured Reserve

Jacksonville Jaguars runningback Rashad Jennings injured his knee in the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. He's since been on crutches and announced on twitter earlier he would be placed on injured reserve. This isn't much of a surprise, given Jennings has been on crutches since earlier in the week. The injury is to his knee, however it's unclear if it's a torn ACL, MCL, or what exactly it is.

This is a big blow to the Jaguars, because even though it looks like Maurice Jones-Drew will be just fine, the team planned to increase Jennings workload to help keep Jones-Drew fresh down the line. Jennings was good at just about everything and was a bigger back with speed. It looks like UDFA runningback Richard Murphy will make the final roster over DuJuan Harris, who's been released and headed to the practice squad. As I mentioned on twitter, it's likely the team kept Murphy over Harris because of his size and ability in pass protection. Harris is like another Deji Karim, and the team needed a bigger back.

i am impressed by karim's development

I think he could carry 15% or so of the carries in Jennings place. Not completely confident in Murphy yet

More carries for Greg Jones?

Could this mean more carries for Greg? At one time (long, long time ago) he was relatively successful running the ball, hes also a big guy but since hes found his niche at blocking I’d say 98% of the time thats what hes primarily done…thoughts?

What?

I just dont get it, we keep someone who has looked dismal(murphy) over Harris? WTH are we thinking? get another back off waivers, Murph is TOO SLOW!!! (andre brown?) and I noticed Jeff Maehl got cut, as well as some decent WR’s and some veteran DB’s, will we stick with what we got? Darek Landri just got cut after 3 sacks last year, we can improve there,or at least get some depth

its simple Murphy > Harris in size

MJD is an all in one, but Karim is small and speedy. They wanted a 3rd back who was bigger, Harris will be on practice squad

Sucks to hear Jennings is gone ………. He was gonna have a breakout year ….. That’s exactly why we shudnt really play key contributors in stupid meaningless pre-season craps man !!!!!!!

Wow..

We went from 7 RB to 3 real fast..

We lost/cut Rashad Jennings, Albert Young, DuJuan Harris, Richard Murphy.

That leaves us with MJD, Deji Karim, Owens.

Please stay healthy.

It really does stink bc Jennings possessed a rare combination of size, speed, and catching ability. However, not to minimize his loss its getting easier and easier to find capable backs to come in and produce in a limited role. As long as MJD can stay healthy we will be ok, imo, Mojo is in a class of RB by himself.
