Jacksonville Jaguars Make Their Final Cuts
The Jacksonville Jaguars have made their final cuts to the roster. The biggest surprise cut was defensive end Larry Hart, but honestly I don't even consider that one a surprise. Hart bulked up in the offseason and came in at least 10 pounds overweight and never really showed much.
Here is the list of players that were cut:
DE Larry Hart, DT Andrew Lewis, KR Scotty McGee, WR Armon Binns, WR Dontrell Inman, LB Scott Lutrus, TE Tommy Gallarda, TE Joey Haynos, CB Terrence Wheatley, OT Daniel Baldrige, RB DuJuan Harris, RB Albert Young, LB Michael Lockley, CB Jalil Johnson, S Don Carey, TE Kyle Miller, OL Tony Moll, DE Odrick Ray, LB Jacob Cutrera, S Matt Estrada, OL Wade Grayson, CB T.J. Heath, and LS Jake Ingram.Rashad Jennings, David Jones, Aaron Morgan, Richard Murphy and D'Anthony Smith were all placed on injured reserve.
There were no surprise cuts, as far as I'm concerned.

Estrada and Harris
It looks like DuJuan Harris and Matt Estrada are locks for the practice squad pending another team grabbing them…
ehs reverting to P.S.
unless hes picked up by another team.

OK
I think Murphy, D’A Smith, and Morgan were all put on IR to be stashed,
No spot for Murphy, D’A wasnt fully healthy and Collins deserved the spot, and Morgan needs more polish.

"he needs more lower body weight."
polish, but not play polish, physical polish.

because our starters arnt in at the same time, and were using the 43 against 4 wide receiver spread sets. wait til opener before saying anything on the team really sucks, but i am conerned with the o-line.

never said the team really sucks..just didnt even see any progress or improvement from last year or last pre season. this team looks as if it has regressed across the board. im hoping that JDr just hasnt wanted to show his HAND at all. not sure if he is that sly or cool though.
On defense
you can see they are playing really vanilla. And a we got burned like a billion times on screens. With Alualu and Knighton and starting LB’s I don’t think they are going to get beat so easily, especially with some more gameplanning.
yeah. I don’t see us getting burned so easy in reg season. The defense will gel and as long as they stay healthy, we’ll be alright.
On paper, we have a much improved line-up from last season.

Im confused! This leaves us MoJo and Deji as the only 2 running backs?? we are gonna rely on Owens and Bolen to fill if needed? im not sure about that at all!
hang on
Owens is quick, and proved he can run the ball, he did it in pre-season and in the pro bowl. And bolen is a pounder, will pound for those yards.

there’s not much you can do but be patient and hope he gains the explosion and strength back that made us draft him in the first place. It’s the hand we’ve been dealt.
yea
hes didnt necessarily get re-hurt, he just isn’t ready for the season yet, its usually a 1.5-2 year recovery.

I don't think its the injury
I just don’t think he has ever had it. Maybe as a 34 End, but he doesn’t have the strength to play 43 DT, and he never did.
well alfie
didn’t we hear/read that he had regained some of his burst.

not necessarily,
but I would put him on IR if I was the Jags because why give a spot to a guy, who is like 60%, when we got Nate Collins, who may be better.

Of course they’ll put him on IR. They’re trying to see if they can salvage something from a 3rd round pick. That’s why I said Friday he’s probably going to IR.
Fact of the matter is, they’ll likely never get anything out of him because of his injury.
+1
well that sucks, maybe with a long hard offseason, he can work his way back. or go the UFL.
"thanks for hating"
by rhettchrystal on Sep 3, 2011 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions
I think his injury is fine
looks the same to me as he did in college. Just needs to get a lot more muscle and functional strength.
This is true
and i do like the 2 of them! But they scream Fullback, not a running back!! I don’t know maybe its just my opinion!
Agree I don't really want Bolen running the rock
Owens has a little more speed and elusiveness but I’d rather see Mojo and Karim get all the carries.
Respect My Authoritah
Don't underrate them
both of them ARE good runners. Bolen may be listed as a FB, but he used to play lots of RB in college.
I’ve been telling people on twitter, Bolen is a “new breed” fullback, which is basically just a big RB that can catch and pass protect. It’s why I said they wouldn’t cut Jones for him last year.
This is probably Greg Jones last season, with the likelihood of Gabbert and more pass oriented offense in 2012.
Thats what you say now
before he makes us all go WOW. He still has it, and has trade value, but Bolen will never be as good of a blocker as Jones, and I think it’ll make MJD’s production go down.
"thanks for hating"
by rhettchrystal on Sep 3, 2011 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Who’s going to trade for a $3 million lead blocker?
MJD had 4.8 YPC in singleback formations. He’ll be fine.
he'll take a pay cut?
but in the iform, the FB is the lead blocker, he’s depended on, to make that lead block. if bolen misses it, MJD may get stuffed(likely), may break it out, may get a few yards, etc.

I like Greg A LOT, but his routes and hands are horrible. If he’s not RUN blocking he’s basically a waste of a player on the field.
the dude still can run
hes still a truck when he gets the ball, i remember last year, garrard threw a checkdown to him, and he got around 3 guys for a firstdown, well around 2 , and through 1.

Greg Jones is a strong, violent guy
He’s been punishing defenders for many years for us, I don’t know how much longer he can keep doing it at that ability. He will never be much more than a lead run blocker for us. But he’s pretty damn good at it.
by SexonvilleShaguars on Sep 4, 2011 2:13 AM EDT up reply actions
I know this will require more explanation than can be explained...
as a comment to this article, but in a simple answer: What effect do you think this more pass oriented offense will have on MJD?
Not much
what he loses in tough yards he will gain in draws, screens, receptions, and stretch plays.
He should love that.
A little less wear and tear on his body and more chances to get the ball in open space. Sounds like a running backs dream!
I disagree with this being more
pass-oriented, we have always been a run-first team, and why would the Jags want to go more to the pass with a young inexperienced qb, than an experienced great back.
"thanks for hating"
by rhettchrystal on Sep 3, 2011 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions
yes 2012
in 2012 gabbert will still be young and inexperienced, and MJD will be more experienced and still good.
"thanks for hating"
by rhettchrystal on Sep 3, 2011 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions
hang on...
…with a new QB, we will base the offense around our new QB, and build around him? but I think jags best bet is continue to do whats working for them until we know gabbert can be thatguy, what if we cut jones, and gabbert is like sanchez his rookie season, and then we need to depend on MJD, but he isnt as good cuz he lost jones.

“Continue what’s working”
It’s not working Rhett.
If the fate of our offense rests in the hands of Greg Jones, that’s a whole other issue.
good point
but the fate of our offense is the running game right now, and losing greg jones would be a blow to it, doesnt mean we will suck running the ball, MJD will still have over 1,000, but he’ll be less consistent.

Did you pay attention to how much single back and shotgun that was used when Gabbert played?
It’s obvious the offense is going to change with him.
yea i noticed it,
but i thought the spread was used with gabbert more, because hes still getting used to taking snaps under center.
"thanks for hating"
by rhettchrystal on Sep 3, 2011 9:49 PM EDT up reply actions
Think about that. Does that make sense? Wouldn’t you want him to take more live snaps from under center if it were an issue?
yes
because its preseason, and it doesnt count, so heshould take his reps now, but i thought they would want to see him throw with him being comfortable, then him being uncomfortable.

I hope you mean next year. Because if Garrard is throwing the ball 30+ times a game, that means something has gone horribly wrong.
Respect My Authoritah
This team has been making the change to be a passing team
For the past 3 years.
I love the style of our old run game with MJD/Fred Taylor, but years ago we decided it just wasn’t working for us.
It should be obvious that this is the direction we’ve been heading with the increased production of Garrard’s passing the past few years and, oh yeah, the drafting of a 10th overall QB.
The run-first run-second Jag offense is going extinct.
by SexonvilleShaguars on Sep 4, 2011 2:17 AM EDT up reply actions
It's not a change that will happen in season
it’s an off season kind of change. Obviously if it doesn’t work they will run the ball more. But the NFL is leaving behind the run first offenses.
Hold on!!!
Gabbert is going to be young and inexperienced after “learning” for a year? I’m so confused..

Harris ran in the spread at Troy (I graduated from there) and
he ran from everywhere and even worked as a receiver…..
No more Don Carey.
I know some fans are thrilled about this.
I can’t believe Jacob Cutrera got cut. I thought he did pretty well with the opportunities given to him. And there is no way DuJuan Harris clears waivers and even if he does, he won’t make it an entire season on the practice squad.
OK...
but shouldn’t there be some sort of give and take? I mean shouldn’t his field awareness (which I think he has, as he never seemed to be out of place) and his playmaking ability make up for his lack of athletic ability? I thought the best 53 were supposed to make the team and he appeared to be one of the better ones out there. It’s not like we had much depth at linebacker to begin with. I’m going to think something is up if he doesn’t at least make the practice squad.
He was a decent player
But obviously the team didn’t think he was a top 53 player. And they went thin at LB with 5 like I thought they would. If they want depth they just dip into their practice squad. Why waste the roster space?
Good point.
It would be better to spend that spot on an offensive or defensive lineman.

can be really good, needs to add 20 lbs, all off-season he needs to do a protein and carbs diet, with running and a lot of weight lifitng, he needs to build it with muscle, not fat, if he can build it as all muscle, hell be a monster, get some upperbody strength for man-handling those guards, and some leg muscle, for bursting off the line, may be able to do what the jags wanted D’Anthony to be.

It’s also why I think we traded for Lowery. Lowery can play safety, but I don’t think it’s what he’s best at. He will backup Derek and play some DB if I had to guess.
Everything I've read on the Jets' end says he was really starting to come into his own at safety.

I vote no to the guy that's third on the list
