In Gene We Trust?

Ever since Gene Smith ascended to the General Manager position in the dark days of winter 2009. Jaguars fans have almost unanimously accepted him as the savior of our franchise. His draft picks and roster move have been meet with unquestioned fan fair, but why? In his 3 years on the job he has had 3 top ten draft picks. That means he had the opportunity to pick elite talent, that can dominate in the NFL for years. The problem is that Gene Smith hasn't been able too , Eugene Monroe has been an above average inconsistent starter. Tyson Alualu has been solid so far but it's way to early to tell, same with Blaine Gabbert. In no way do I believe Gene Smith is a bad GM, I just think a more skeptical approach must be taken, I think those "In Gene We Trust" posts should end. Even in the lower rounds Gene Smith has missed a lot, Eben Britton has played poorly and been injured a lot. But Terrance Knighton has been a solid addition to the D-line. Derek Cox, Rashaad Jennings, and Mike Thomas have all played well to. But he has also missed on, Larry Hart, Tiquan Underwood, Scotty McGee D'Anthony Smith. Overall I think Gene Smith has been positive for the Jaguars, but i just do not believe he deserves the adulation he receives, that is not healthy for the fans or for him. He has been an above average General Manager, and I feel our attitudes towards him should reflect that as well.
