Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that the Jacksonville Jaguars are releasing quarterback David Garrard.
I'm reporting the Jaguars today have informed starting QB David Garrard they are releasing him! Luke McKown will start opener! Shocker!!!
While it's a stunning move, it shouldn't be a huge surprise. Flat out, David Garrard was terrible in the preseason and throughout training camp. It's no surprise either that Luke McCown will be the opening day starter. McCown had consistently been the best Jaguars quarterback in training camp and in the preseason. Head coach Jack Del Rio often praised McCown for his play and general manager Gene Smith praised him unsolicited often.
There was even some rumors of Jacksonville Jaguars players, some on the offensive line, prefering Luke McCown to David Garrard. With the release of Garrard, they no longer have to pay his $8M salary.
I told you guys, it was possible. It happened. Just like 2007.
