An Outsiders Opinion: David Garrard

Well it is 2007 all over again and there will be a new starting QB come Sunday.

I have scrapped that part 2 thing but I will give my opinion on the release.

I have to agree with this release on a couple of reasons.

  1. Money- They were set to pay David 8 million big ones. Why pay for a QB that is average at best when you have a potential franchise QB and one that smoked the others during the offseason? They have the money but that is 8 Million that can go elsewhere. Upgrade the O-Line, sign another receiver like TO (yes I want to see this), extend a players contract.
  2. Excitement- Going into the last couple of seasons, it became predictable. It would be mostly running and maybe a few passing plays. Now we have two QB's that have the arm strength to make deep plays. David looked like he was going to give himself a hernia throwing that Hail Mary pass. Gabbert can make accurate passes for the most part, Luke has better arm strength and opens the book up.
  3. Moving on- David Garrard was not getting any better. The Jaguars moved up six spots to get Gabbert. Doesn't that pretty much tell you that it was either put up or shut up this offseason for Garrard? The future is now and I believe that Luke McCown gives us a better shot than Garrard because we can open up those pages that were previously bookmarked "No Can Use".

This is my opinion and I think this season just got better.
