As long as I see continued progress from Gabbert
I will be happy no matter the outcome. Especially against the Colts pass rushers.
Agreed. If he can close out 2011 playing well I have faith in 2012

Well... At least we won't finish last.
Still unbelievable who IS DFL this year.
Okay, somebody in the Big East has made this necessary. "BC" in my nickname references the icon. I AM NOT A BOSTON COLLEGE FAN.
Sup People!!!
With this being the last game of the regular season, I want to see if we will open the book and let Gabbert throw the ball. I wouldn’t mind MJD getting the rushing title, but he has done a lot this season. I would rush him 10-15 times today and let Gabbert throw the ball, considering the WR we have.
MJD virtually has it on ice.
But I want this win, and I think the rest of the team wants it, too. So I suspect he will play.
Still, I agree with opening the book on Gabbart, but let Hercules establish the run first.

I would like that id we werent playing the Colts
I don’t like our OT situation going against a hungry Freeney and Mathis and as long as we are getting pass protection then that is ok. If they are killing Gabbert though, run the ball and give the kid a break.
Holy crap I live on the west coast so I
know its earlier for me but how are you guys still awake? I got drunk as shit last night, got into my first fist fight in 6 ears, and almost got a tattoo all in one night. Happy news years everybody, we in the army play it harder then we should
those are the ones that kill me

Pisses me off that I pay for season tickets and on the one or 2 games I can’t go to during the year I can’t watch it on TV. The games aren’t even blacked out!
its wierd being in this win-win situaction
We win if we win
We win if the colts don’t get the #1 pick
Just a wierd game for me and my emotions

they wouldnt have won the last two games if they didnt want to. They have had a terrible defense all year so its not like this is unusual. People will use that as an excuse for Gabbert playing well if he does though.
Yes
Taylor is one of the best but after everything MJD has done this season, I really want to see him set the record

we are slowly building depth on the D line
would be nice to see Knighton and Alualu take the next step
Knighton is good
but Alulau really sucks, if he can step it up, the whole defense would play better.

I have a very good clue
I never said how good I thought either one of them was. I merely said they need to take the next step. By that, I meant they need to become pro bowl caliber players. Especially Alualu because of the position he was drafted. Alualu has been injured this year so I give him a break, but I never said either one was a bad player.
Alualu sucks?

Nope
He has been good this year, not great as a pass rusher but he has been really good against the run and has been drawing double teams and making things easier for the guys around him all year. Why do you think the DEs all of sudden are playing good football? Its because they rarely ever face more than one lineman and Alualu and Pot Roast are the reason for that. Just like the LBs that are pretty much untouched and left to roam around and make plays that too is because of Alualu and
Knighton, so as someone said earlier, you have no clue,
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Jan 1, 2012 2:01 PM EST up reply actions
yea well
they are both pretty darn solid and still have room to get better. ALualu got some pressure today. The DE arent doin it so far today

I’d rather keep Dillard than Thomas because at least Dillard gives a shit out there. I like Thomas, but he isnt playing up to his contract.

Doesn’t mean I’m comfortable with Osgood. I’ll like Osgood when I see more than one good catch. He had that really good long TD in 2009 or last year….maybe someone knows which one I’m talking about. On the long post. That’s the only memorable catch he has, and he routinely drops things. What does this have to do with Dillard and West?

Maybe they’ll cut Potter and officialy switch Osgood to Tight End. He’s a special teams ace, and is a good run blocker, and not that bad at receiver, he needs t oget better, and if maybe he’ll improve over the offseason.

I still like you're idea from the summer about switching osgood to tight end
But depending on how our guys shake out, we might not have room for Osgood anymore. It all depends on who we acquire.
If he moves to TE he would have to add about 20 pounds or so
which would mean he wouldn’t be the same on special teams
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Jan 1, 2012 2:11 PM EST up reply actions
He 220-225
he need to pack on maybe 5-10 lbs, which would effect him slightly, but he’s already a good run blocker, and against blitzing OLBs, and some DEs, he will handle himself fine.

Dillard will have a shot
Depending on what new players come I would hope Dillard would be out of there. If we bring 2 WR then he should be gone. Shorts has more upside then him

I think 2 of the 3.
I figure we’ll draft 2 guys and sign two guys. I’m really hoping we can get someone for a good trade on Thomas.

I was being sarcastic
he is a good player, I think people on this site just don’t like to acknowledge anyone outside of MJD. And JPP was a pretty much just a freak athlete when he entered the draft, no one knew he would end up being a really good pass rusher, the Giants had the luxury of not needing him and allowing him to develop around guys like Osi and Tuck, not so sure he would have been the same player here.

mike thomas has
been a disgrace at wr this year. he proved that heisnt worth the contract. i remember his rookie year he was diving all over the place for balls and breaking tackles, now it appears he lacks motive to play as hard. he is always giving up on routes
not saying he is a worse player than he was
just that in my opinion he isnt trying as hard as he could
Really hoping
We can take someone for a ride on a trade for him.
Maybe
I think there’s at least one team out there that thinks it’s more our offense as a whole that sucks than Thomas, himself. There’s plenty of good tape on Thomas out there. I bet a team like Houston or St. Louis would send us a 3rd round pick if they don’t find someone in FA.

harry douglas to go along with the draft pick and colston
so wayne may not even leave Indy

Wayne doesn't want to leave, but he's prepared to.
Asked by a reporter whether Thursday night against the Texans will be his last home game with the Colts, Wayne said that’s entirely possible.
"Well, it could," Wayne said, in comments distributed by the team. "I am well aware of that and I’ve come to the conclusion that in every athlete’s career they are going to be faced with this decision at some point in time, whether it is a long career or a short career."
"I truly appreciate them," Wayne said. "They come out with the Reggie signs, and no matter what the situation is they are always there cheering and it could be a little tough. Everybody said it would be a little emotional for me."

Because of what he looks like when he catches those 500 yards. He’s a very fluid/natural looking catcher that can catch in stride. I don’t think that puts him in the upper class or anything, but enough to throw a decent one-year at him.

Biggest stat of the day IMO:
The Jaguars generated 261 yards of total offense today.
Of those yards 190 were rushing and 71 were passing.
The Jaguars averaged 5.4 yards per rush play
and 3.2 yards per pass play.
If you rush for 3.2 yards per play, that’s a bad day.
If you pass for 3.2 yards per play, the team should be ashamed, and it was against a team with a pass-D in the 20s.

It's the way you go about it, man.
You seem like you want the verbal win more than you want Gabbert to improve. You use stretches on stats/comparisons to prove meaningless points sometiems. It seems like you overlook the good when there is good to be looked at. You’re right…this particular stat is a stat that shows us how unproductive he is right now. No one is trying to deny that he’s been bad this year, which is why people get so annoyed when you consistently deny the good. I know you think you’re looking at things unbiased…and I believe you think you are, but when you try harder to prove he sucks than to look for the good, you’re sure to face some backlash.
There’s a difference between being a fan and being an unbiased observer. I do a little bit of both. I’m cheering for my team, and I’d be very happy if I was wrong about Gabbert, because it would mean that the Jaguars would win.
However, looking at this season through teal-colored glasses helps no one and nothing.
Yes, Gabbert has improved throughout this year. That’s undeniable, and I have not denied it. I’ve acknowledged it several times, and will do so again if you want me too.
What people don’t seem to see on this site is what people are seeing everywhere else around the league: Gabbert is beyond just “rookie” bad. He’s terrible.
He’s bad enough to drag down a young, improving team.
He’s bad enough that he can’t win with a top 5 defense behind him.
He’s bad enough that he has the league’s best rusher on his team and still can’t complete passes.
He’s bad enough that if you took all the highlights of his season, you could put together maybe 8 quarters of competent play.
He hasn’t had one complete game as a starting QB.
He’s so bad that people get excited and see it as progress when he makes an NFL throw. An NFL QB is supposed to throw passes on target.
The Gabbert I watched for 14 games this season has the potential to be, at his absolute best, Mark Sanchez. Further proof, watch the game. Orlovsky looked better than Gabbert QBing the worst team in the league.

It's quite
obvious he’s the worst starter in the NFL. I hope he can get it together in the off-season. I’m also hoping we draft a QB in the first round, and actively pursue quality offensive players like we did on the defensive side this year. We shouldn’t gamble that he has the ability to improve enough to compete for the division next year.
he was also the youngest
He played 2 years in college. Dalton played 4 years. Just wait until next year when B laine is tearing it up. He stayed healthy which proved he has an NFL body.
by childintime12 on Jan 1, 2012 9:16 PM EST up reply actions
Orlavsky has been in the NFL for years
Experience matters you tard. Do not overlook how bad the WR and Koetter have been. They did not ask Gabbert to do much today. Out of his 8 incompletions 2-3 were dropped and Thomas doesnt know how to run a route. Give him time. He does not throw INT and he only lost 3 fumbles this year. He makes throws other QBs cant make. Its better to have a bad 1st year than good. See Sanchez. Its a team game.

You are banned from Stampede Blue.
You can browse the blog, but you can't participate.
I don't think you took me seriously. If you want it unbanned, email an admin. But, for now, your Stampede Blue privileges are done.
I didn't realize being a fan and being unbiased was mutually exclusive?
I see your point…really do. Accuracy, what half of the Gab-haters think is the biggest issue, is probably the easiest thing for a strong armed QB to fix.
Have you seen the balls Tebow throws? A lot of them are like how in the hell did those get completed…there wasn’t even a spiral. His completions look ugly. For a bad QB with a bad arm, throughout the year, he increased his consistency and accuracy, but the ball kept looking the same.
If you look at those incompletions from Gabbert…very, very few look like an ugly throw. The fact that some of them were way off target or a little mistimed and inaccurate makes them look ugly, but the ball still gets thrown beautifully. If we disagree, then we disagree, but this suggest to me a high ceiling.
If F*n Tim Tebow can learn how to throw an ugly ball, accurately, there’s no reason for me to think Gabbert can’t do the same with his tools. I’m not comparing these 2 quarterbacks’ entire play…just the accuracy.
The other half of haters I think have a much more legit fear, and that’s that he can’t stand in the pocket and deliver. I’m no crystal ball, but if this is the one only fear we have, I’m not too worried about him developing. All rookies need time to develop to game speed. He’s an aware, cerebral guy who’s probably over thinking the hell out of things. Now that he can stop worrying about next week, and the coaches can point out where and why he’s over thinking it, I think improvement can be made. This particular attribute that no one seems to think can get better, has already made progress this year, and I have no reason to think he can’t improve there, either.
Fact: If these two issues get resolved, and we get a respectable offense, Gabbert has the potential (and the arm) to be among the NFL’s best. That’s what you get with a risk-reward guy with a high ceiling and a low floor. That’s why they call it “raw”.
Brian, there have been plenty of conversations about getting a mid to low round guy or a veteran that didn’t require people killing Gabbert with hate or arguing about it. It’s possible to support our QB, acknowledge he sucks, acknowledge he has the potential to get better and suggest we get some (low cost) insurance for the just-in-case, without wearing your teal glasses.
I really think it’s possible to be a fan and have an unbiased approach simultaneously.
the name of the game was to give MJD his carries, you fool.
Why do you think the receiver from NE didn’t even get in the game?
