Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey to interview with Jaguars Tuesday | jacksonville.com

The Jaguars will interview Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey on Tuesday. The Falcons lost to the New York Giants on Sunday, 24-2, in a Wild Card playoff game. Mularkey will also interview for the Dolphins' vacant job. Now that the Falcons season is over, Mularkey can interview at any time, but the Falcons have a say over when.

Shahid Khan starts Jaguars' front-office shakeup | jacksonville.com

Determined to bring a new energy and direction to the franchise, Jaguars owner Shahid Khan dismissed Paul Vance, the team’s general counsel and senior vice president of football operations, on Thursday. Vance had been with the organization since its inception, having worked closely with former Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver.

Help Jaxson become the 'Most Awesome Mascot'

Jacksonville Jaguars mascot Jaxson De Ville has been nominated for a national award as part of the Cartoon Network’s "Hall of Game" awards show. Other mascots nominated are the Sacramento Kings’ "Slamson," the San Jose Sharks’ "SJ Sharkie" and the Cleveland Indians’ "Slider."

In case you missed it . . .

Today, we take a look at aspects of the Jaguars’ 2011 season you may have overlooked. We do this now because the Jaguars are in the middle of the search for a permanent head coach, and on that matter, there’s not a lot to say just yet.

Jaguars oust general counsel Vance - AFC South Blog - ESPN

The Jaguars revealed Monday that they’ve fired Paul Vance, severing ties with the team’s general counsel who’d been with the franchise since its inception. New owner Shahid Khan is married to general manager Gene Smith, who signed a new contract with former owner Wayne Weaver on the same day the team’s sale was announced. So Khan is not averse to carry-over.

Mularkey or Chudzinski

Both names are awesome and will only add to the awesome that is Shahid’s stache to the new face of the Jaguars franchise

Why is Mularkey "awesome"?

If he is picked, I will give him a chance but I fail to see what in his coaching history makes you think he is awesome. Because Gene Smith likes him?

I read today (in a blog by Sam Kouvaris, so take it FWIW)...

that Gene Smith recommended Mike McCarthy to Wayne when Coughlin was canned, but Wayne decided JDR was the answer. If true, then maybe Gene has a decent eye for “future head coaches”.

I’m calling BS, just like 90% of what Sam Kouvaris "reports". Not to mention at the time, Gene Smith was director of college scouting. He’d have no reason to give input on who the next head coach should be.

He’s the master of "reporting" or "hearing" things way after the fact. Remember: He reported Gene Smith tried to trade back up into the first round for Tim Tebow

by Alfie Crow on Jan 10, 2012 12:06 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

Gene Smith is good at using certain members of the media to get this type of unsubstantiated news out there, i.e. Smith wanted to pick Big Ben.

Gene Smith had nothing to do with that “report”, it was all Sam. I really doubt that Smith gives a rat’s ass what people write about him.

by Jaghawk on Jan 10, 2012 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

Yes he does

GMs are just like other people in public positions, they have to pretend not to care what people say or write about them but for the most part they care. The fact is that if the public completely turned against Gene Smith as GM, the Jaguars would need to fire him because it is a public relations business. One way to prevent the public from completely turning on you as a GM is to make sure the public thinks you know what you are doing. Many GMs leak information to certain members of the media that are more favorable to them to try to stay in the public’s good graces.

by cobrakainole on Jan 10, 2012 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

Kouvaris is not going to get leaked information from Gene Smith. Gene would link to to someone who has more of an audience, like the T-U if that was the case.

Are you going to let us all know you don’t care, or just make some snarky worthless remark that has nothing to do with anything?

by Alfie Crow on Jan 10, 2012 1:37 PM EST up reply actions

you just slammed Kouvaris with no facts or references other than one ancient report he made
was it necessary?
and, yes, my remark has something to do with your reply. it’s pretty obvious you don’t like Sam, is it not?

Cuffs007, are you friends with Sam?

I don’t think he’s a bad guy, but his manner does seem to be a little pompous. I like Brent Martineau.

by JPQ! on Jan 10, 2012 2:08 PM EST up reply actions

What facts do I need that would be good enough for you?

Kouvaris is wrong, routinely. He routinely “reports” false news, way after the fact to drive hits/callers when he had a show.

Yes, it was necessary because I have to answer about these bullshit rumors and it’s obnoxious when a clown like Sam Kouvaris has less journalistic integrity than a blogger. No, I don’t like Sam Kouvaris. I don’t like reporters who feed bullshit with false news just so they can make themselves look important all the while holding their nose in the air like they’re better than every other journalist in the area, when really they’re just a pompous asshole.

As far as Kouvaris’ “report” about Smith “wanting” McCarthy in 2003, Gene Smith would have absolutely ZERO input about who the Jaguars should have hired to replace Tom Coughlin because at the time he was the director of college scouting. He’d have no reason to give input on who the next coach should be, because that wasn’t part of his job nor did it actually happen. He was not part of the coach hiring/search process, at all.

by Alfie Crow on Jan 10, 2012 3:14 PM EST up reply actions

Actually, he did use a fact: Gene Smith was in charge of college scouting at the time, which means he wouldn’t have had input in the coaching search. And I’ll say it: I don’t like Sam, he lacks journalistic integrity.

by Jaghawk on Jan 10, 2012 3:15 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks. I’ll make sure to ask for your approval next time I respond to a comment.

Was this response okay for you, or should I change it?

Oh, I know! Maybe I could troll on about how all the coaching candidates except for Bill Cowher suck! I bet you’d like that, huh?

by Alfie Crow on Jan 10, 2012 3:09 PM EST up reply actions

LOL! Yeah i would appreciate the support for Cowher!

But seriously, I am not saying only Cowher is the answer at HC, not at all , nor am I trolling about it. I have said I am not a Jay Gruden fan, from what I have seen and by researching his background, maybe in a couple years, just not now because his name is Gruden. I like Chud, and have since his name was first mentioned. And at the risk of sounding troll like, I don’t feel the list of candidates is all that impressive, at least the ones we are all aware of. I in all reality do know Cowher is not coming here, but I can still hope. The only point I make about these OC’s up for the job, is who will they get to be our OC, because that hire is every bit as importat as the HC to the Jags. And the other point I have tried to make lobbying for Cowher is that not only would top coaches be willing to coach for him, but bigtime FA’s would be more willing to come here for him without breaking the bank to convince them to. Again, I will support whoever the new coach is just like everyone else will, but until it is announced I still have hope.. I apologize to you for my comments previously, you are good at what you do, and always inform us before anyone else, so thanks…

Cuffs response was sarcastic, so attacking Crow’s response seems one-sided. Also, this isn’t a site for Alfie’s fans. It’s for Jaguars fans, he just helps to provide information and moderation.

by Jaghawk on Jan 10, 2012 3:18 PM EST up reply actions

Much as is the case with players.....

I feel Mr. Mularkey’s stock value went down as a result of the poor showing by the Falcons on Sunday. I am not sure that how long he has been with that team, but they were one and done in the playoffs in 2008, 2010, and 2011. This year, Mr. Mularkey’s offense did not even score one point! I know that is a far better playoff run than we Jags have had since 2008, but if we are going to do this, lets do it right!

by GAJAGFAN on Jan 10, 2012 1:29 PM EST up reply actions

Im for Chud

But I support whoever Gene Smith and Khan hire.

I read about that...

this morning. That’s horrible news and my heart goes out to Philbin. His son was much too young for this kind of thing to happen to him, although there was no details offered to exactly what happened.
