Jay Gruden Not Interested In A Head Coaching Position
The Jacksonville Jaguars were reportedly interested in Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden for their head coaching position, but there have been mixed reports if the Jaguars ever actually were all that interested and whether or not permission to speak with him was ever officially asked for.
Well, apparently none of that even matters because Jay Gruden isn't interested in leaving the Bengals.
Jay Gruden will not be interviewing for head coaching jobs. Very happy in Cincy. Rams and Jags wanted to talk him. #insideslant

Adding to the report, NFL Network's Albert Breer notes that Gruden felt some commitment to stick with the Bengals because they have him a shot at being an NFL offensive coordinator. In Gruden's first season with the Bengals he helped the team make the playoffs and got quite a bit out of rookie quarterback Andy Dalton. It was noted this weekend that Gruden may have felt he was not ready for a head coaching position.

sarcasm?
He must be on that thing that his WR was on earlier in the season if he wants to stay in Cincinnati… JK JK, but hahaha, nah, that was bad.

Good job La Canfora
Professional reporter can’t even properly write a sentence “Rams and Jaguars wanted to talk him”.

Lol probably the recently fired H.C Jackson from Oakland

To be Fair
Oakland is rough on coaches. I thought both Cable and Jackson did a fine job getting Oakland back on the right side of .500 these past few years. With their recent drafting over the decade it could be considered a miracle.
I would be willing to give either one a shot.

Well what i ALLEGEDLY heard
was that Jackson was fired bc he was letting his power/authority go to his head.

Didn't Jackson orchestrate the Palmer trade?

And?
He’s not going to orchestrate any trades in Jacksonville because he would not have personnel power.
Bro, he called the trade the greatest in NFL history

I'm not
Saying I was on the Gruden bandwagon, but the guy definitely had a good shot at landing a head gig. Its gonna suck for him if his offense crashes next year and all his stock goes out the window.

Ouch.
I bet he didn’t expect to be starting a rookie, 14 out of 16 games, who was deemed to be one of the rawest yet most talented QB rookies coming out of the draft who was supposed to be learning from the bench. Not to mention the other offensive woes such as the under performing group of receivers and struggling Pro Bowl tight end. What’s done is done, but damn, he got dealed a bad hand last season.
I agree
and I don’t mean to belittle koetter’s effort or credentials, but I’d be willing to bet he’s not getting near the interest or will get anywhere close the contract he would have had he left after last season… At least in the NFL; college could be a completely story

I'm sure Koetter just Loved his working relationship with Jack
Especially when he was thrown under the bus by him
by Jags85 on Jan 10, 2012 7:57 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I've wondered...
what’s the difference between being openly critical of someone and throwing them under the bus? Or are they one in the same?
Lol you mean Constructive Criticism?

Honestly...
I’m not sure how to word the question correctly to get the answer I’m looking for. I just remember after one of the games last season, a lot of people was saying that Del Rio threw Koetter under the bus. I remember the situation and what he said in the post game interview, yet I never understood fully why so many took it as Jack throwing Dirk under the bus.
Well well well
So one coach would rather coach in college after it disgraced it’s self. and now this coach would rather stay in Cincy and a O coordinator. What does that tell you about the direction of this team and Gene? Don’t give me BS, we all know why people are passing up on this job.
I need my meds.
Gruden is turning down any interview for a HC job
not just Jacksonville’s. You are reading into WAY too much!!

Remember, we have NO idea how many coaches are truly being eyed or interviewed by the Jag’s. The only names we know of are those that are currently employed bc they are required to ask their current team/employer. The Jags are Not required to name coaches who aren’t employed. Khan has already gone on record saying there are many coaches seeking this job. N.E’s O.C. wanted to coach where he went to college and gruden has only been coaching in this league a year and feels hes not quite experienced enough to take over a H.C job at the NFL level. Believe me, Jacksonville is a very desirable coaching location.

Lol oo, ok
With the a-, I thought you were goin a different direction lol
by Jags85 on Jan 10, 2012 9:21 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I think the main reason they "passed up on this job" is that it was never offered to them

The #Jaguars are hiring Mike Mularkey, according to a source. Mularkey interviewed today.

This surprised me
I didnt think it would happen so soon. I am happy. Overall I think Mularkey has the look and the fire we need along with experience and offensive mind. If you look at pictures of Chudzinski he just doesnt look like a Head Coach. Gruden did not have enough experience. They made the best decision out of who had interest.
