Khan claims "real fans" are ST holders
Our new owner has made the first verbal gaffe of his tenure. From The Post Game:
Later, Khan sent a prepared statement to First Coast News to clarify his position: "All it takes to be a Jaguars fan is to love the Jaguars. And if you love the Jaguars, you're the most important person to me and the entire organization."
Khan explained just what it takes to be a Jaguars fan, in his opinion:"I think I can clarify at this point for me a fan is somebody who is a season ticket holder fan for the Jaguars," said the new owner. "We want to hear from people, we want a huge amount of constructive feedback. We need input, but we need that from fans who are season ticket holders."
So the implication is if you're down on your luck and can't afford season tickets in a state hit hard by the recession, you're not a true fan.
Discuss.

I have no problem with this
Fans that can, should support team by buying tickets. Anyone with common sense knew what he meant.

I have ZERO problems with this.
As MadKow said, if you have common sense, you realize he meant this with the means. And for the record, we have one of the cheapest tickets in the league. As a former Jets season ticket holder, I know first hand how ridiculous prices are elsewhere.
Save up and buy tickets. Some are only $300. I sit next to guys who split the cost and go to 5 games each. If you love the team, you can find a way.

I dont own a private jet, that I can take to jacksonville every sunday! Its ridiculous their are still fans around the country, It’s the citizen of Florida fault that Jacksonville cant fill out there seats, True fans are not Seat Holders!

Season ticket holders have "skin in the game"...
and he’s looking for feedback from us. That’s the way I took his statement. Don’t think it had anything to do with folks who can’t afford to go to the games.

The man is just trying to sell tickets
Why is everyone so sensitive? Anyone else feel like this is being blown out of proportion?
Another "non"troversey...
It gives the talking heads an opportunity to spew their negativity. It’s much ado about nothing.

Who's being sensitive?
You’re right, it could be getting blowed out of proportion, but it doesn’t change the fact that he said it the way he did. In this society where every word spoken by public figures, like the one he has become, will be held against them; this shouldn’t be a surprise that some have taken offense to it. I’ve said this in one of the FP’d articles, but I’m one who can’t afford to buy tickets and I love this team. I, personally, didn’t get offended but I can’t sit here and act like I didn’t notice it when he said it. He actually did a good job because it motivated me to want to hurry up so I can get season tickets so I could consider myself as a “real” fan, instead of just a passive one like I am now.
Who is Ben Mailer?
Wow, critics reacted negatively??? Who’d have thought that people who didn’t like the choice wouldn’t like the choice? DB.

Seriously?
Critics reacted with negativity? I don’t know what to say about that.
Waah Waah
im not a season ticket holder (college student in orlando) and im not offended 1 bit. i know what he meant by that. a season ticket holder’s opinion should count more than ithers. they fill the general bowl.
yea i'm not a "real" fan
because I live in new jersey…

What he said is right......
Baring a few very wealthy folks, season tickets are a burden financially to anyone. A season ticket holder has made a commitment to the team, and decided that being in EverBank on gameday is more important than anything else he could do with that money. Keeping the Jags right where they are is worth the sacrifice to that ticket holder. If you have made those decisions, then the Jags are more important to you than someone that has not, and as the owner, I want to hear form you. I am not going to get into others financial situation. If you really can not afford to go, then you know that. If you can afford to go, but find something else more important (going out to eat, smoking, drinking, seeing movies, driving a fancier car, living in a fancier house, etc.), then the Jags are maybe not as important to you as you think they are! A person that goes to EverBank to watch every home game is a bigger fan than someone who does not!
