When Blackmon Is drafted before we pick 7th...
I expect Blackmon to be gone by the 7th pick. I think the Jaguars should draft Alshon Jeffery with this pick. Yes, he has concerns with his weight and speed, but his sophmore season stats of 88 catches for over 1500 yards led him to first team SEC (Over AJ Green).
The Jaguars would be in a position where they would just need a speed receiver. Kendall Wright will be gone by the 2nd round pick, but maybe a Stevie Johnson would be a great pickup in Free Agency. Our receivers would be:
Alshon Jeffery, Stevie Johnson, and Mike Thomas in the slot.
Obviously, if Blackmon is available we take Blackmon. Our other options would be Dre Kirkpatrick, the best DE on the board, or the best OLine on the board.
Michael Floyd, Kendall Wright, and the other top WR will be good players in the NFL. Alshon stands out to me because of his size, and his ability to play the ball in the air. He has great hands. If you watch a highlight on Jeffery, you get that "wow" factor that Floyd and Wright just don't give. Alshon needs to show up to his pro day in shape ready to impress, and if he does, the Jags should pull the trigger!
let me know your thoughts.... GO JAGS!!

Which could happen..
and if we can’t get WR in FA, we should look at WR in the first 2 rounds.
May want to look at the Saints WR's in FA....
they’ve 2 WR’s in FA and may not be able to keep both.
I don't want Stevie Johnson
Too many headaches. There should be a few different options, and if we’re going to spend that kind of money I’d rather get Bowe, Colston, etc.
Jeffery's biggest problem coming out of college is the worst(IMO) for a receiver to have
He has trouble getting separation. Everybody is enamored with his size because they see Calvin Johnson dominate. What people forget is that he ran a 4.35 40 and had great production in an option offense with a terrible throwing qb. If Jeffery can lose some weight and gain some speed he will be the best receiver in the draft. He has every other tool you ask for. But size doesn’t mean anything there are plenty of big slow receivers in the nfl bust hall of fame but if Alston runs a 4.5 or lower in the combine I’d take him in a heartbeat
Cold Blooded
I'm sorry
but how does Wright not have the “wow” factor. I don’t he’s worth a first round pick because of his size, but he certainly has the proverbial “it.”
Alshon's one handed grabs and size and ability to go get a ball thrown anywhere near him..
is the “wow” i’m talking about. let me look at some of Kendall Wrights films, I haven’t seen him play enough
Im telling you right now Kirkpatric is the best player in the draftq
if Dre can slip to us there is no doubt in my mind he will be the pick. Blackmon is the only guy worth the 7th pick if theres a trade dwon I could see Alshon jeffrey. ANyways I trust whoever Gene Smith drafts unless it was Andrew Luck. Luck is the most overated prospect in NFL history. I predict Andrew Luck will not be a top 15 QB in the NFL.
Draft
If I can’t have Blackmon then I’m moving on to the DB/DE spots, looking for BAP at those positions. Expecting 2 WR in Free agency which allows us to wait till the 2nd round.
Jeffery might be better than Blackmon actually.
Blackmon is not the same guy he was last year. One of the two and possibly both will be taken before 7. My pick is still the same. Kirkpatrick/Claiborne, I’d prefer Kirkpatrick, but either is worth the pick.

My WR board
(I’m intentionally leaving Blackmon off this list):
Jeffery
Jones
Floyd
Sanu
Mcnutt
Wright
Broyles
Criner
Quick
Toon
Fuller
Hilton
J. Wright
Many of these guys are 6’3 or above. I also think most of these guys are legit 2nd round talents near the same level with varying strengths and weaknesses. Some will move up to the 1st, and I think more than a few will drop to the third. Between the 2nd and 3rd rounds, if both are dedicated to getting on of these guys in each round, I think with just one FA WR acquisition, our receiving corps will be very solid. Broyles and J. Wright may even be found as low as 4th or 5th rounds.
1st round – Kirkpatrick or Reiff
2- WR
3 – WR
4 – Michael Egnew TE (Blaine’s favorite target from College)
5 – WR
7 – FSU P Shawn Powell
+ FA WR and G Carl Nicks.
I can’t think of a better, more efficient offseason plan that would target all of our weaknesses at logical places and with max value. If Stephon Gilmore is somehow still around in the 3rd, I’d take him instead, but I doubt that will happen.
The Quickster
Let’s hear it for Brian Quick and the 3 people who voted to draft him. (I’m one of them)

Game speed - it's tough to gauge.
I posted in another thread about Michael Floyd running vs. two good Florida State prospects, including a 4.5 CB who couldn’t keep up, and a 4.3 FS who could close.
Keep in mind that the effective Giants receiver Mario Manningham (who happens to be a FA) ran a 4.59 at the combine and later an unofficial best of 4.43 on a friendly field. He was considered a stretch the field kind of guy before running the 4.59… yet he had no problem getting open last weekend.
Steven Johnson was also a 4.58 guy, and Revis had trouble covering him one on one.
Pierre Garcon ran a 4.48 officially and 4.42 on a friendly field.
I’m not writing this to say A.Jeffery is OK, just that 4.4 to 4.5 speed is plenty fast if it carries over to the field.
