Smart teams don't draft WRs before 15
I personally wouldn't draft a WR in the first round. I don't mind Blackmon but I don't trust Alshon Jeffrey and Malcolm
Floyd at all. I would much rather get a corner, o-line or pass rusher with this pick and get Kendall Wright, Nick Toon, Mohammed Sanu, or Dwight Jones with our 2nd and 3rd picks. The geek people at fantasy football metrics agree it isn't good form and use statistics to back it up.

i guess arizona, houston and detroit are dumb
they must be kicking themselves for picking those future hall of famers

Those teams hit the lotto
I agree with post, First round is a huge gamble for WR.

I disagree with "so is every position"
OT that excels at pass/ run blocking = rare = 1st round
DE that excels at run stuffing/pass rush= rare = 1st round
CB true shutdown corner = first round
Take stock in your lives, but leave your livestock alone
that doesnt mean anything?
there are offensive lineman taken in the first round every year that turn out to be crap
same thing with DE and corner
like i said id like to see a breakdown before a judgment should be made
im sure qb is the most risky statistically to take in the first but does that mean they shouldnt be taken that high?

I'm sorry I bow to your Intellect
My opinion is wrong and yours is right. Why did I bother to post. Should of just waited for you to tell me what was correct.
Take stock in your lives, but leave your livestock alone
you posted on MY comment saying i was wrong; by saying a post i found fault in; was right
and give no substantial backing to dispute any of my claims
dont call me wrong then not put any time or effort into proving it lol
im probably wrong because i didnt do any research as far as OT and CB but you could prove it if you took 5 minutes out of the day to prove it. otherwise im not going to say “yeah, you got a point there”

I didnt say you were wrong
I said I disagree. There’s a big difference. I don’t claim my opinions as facts. They are opinions.
Take stock in your lives, but leave your livestock alone
my opinion is no more correct than yours
but on a post like this where opinions can be backed with numbers with just 5 minutes out of the day
do it. opinions are ever evolving and new info can change them

Almost all first round OTs start
The ones that fail wind up as guards and start anyway (see Robert Gallery).

not always correct
see alex barron tony ugoh and soon to be jason smith
its more likely that a bad OT can be slid to guard to be more effective but that doesnt mean they are good players or good selections

Failed receivers have a second life too
They end up on our roster…Robiskie, Price, West, MSW
What could of happened; did.

Exactly what I was going to write
I even think it’s not too soon to say Atlanta and Cincinnati. This year’s crop is just not as impressive. I think we go CB or OL.
Detroit
It took Detroit SEVERAL tries to get it right… Not that great of an example.
Yes Megatron is awesome, but can you say Mike Williams(#10 overall)? Roy Williams(#7 overall)? Charles Rogers (#2 overall)?
Talent vs Draft position
I totally agree with this.
A player shouldn’t become a first rounder because they’re the best WR in that year’s draft class. They become a first rounder because a team picks them in the first round based on their current talent and potential for the future.
It’s hard to look at talent objectively because each team has weakness that need to be shored up, and you figure that the “best X in the draft class” will be better than what you currently have. That’s obviously not always the case.
So yes, Blackmon is probably better than our current receivers, but he’s not a Megatron or Andre Johnson (just based on measureables). Each team’s evaluation will determine if he can fill their need adequately.
Reggie wayne didn't have great measurables either.
I’d say he’ s been productive tho.

Interesting article..
I wonder what this years WR’s are rated in there system.
Blackmon and Jeffery aren’t on par with AJ Green and Julio Jones IMO.I’m not saying they won’t make it in the NFL but I don’t see them as being as talented. I would prefer to take some of the other WR’s later in the first or at the top of the 2nd. I really like Sanu and Kendall Wright.

I agree 100%
he has nice size but that is about it. Maybe you can say his hands are decent. But, he lacks speed, athleticism, durability. Not so sure what about him is so appealing.

As a whole I find it hard to make a generalization like that
Lions were stupid for taking Calvin Johnson @ 2?! Texans and Cardinals for going Andre Johnson and Fitzgerald (respectively) @ 3? Even AJ Green could have an argument made for him as being worth the pick @ 4 that Cincy used on him.
You need to assess the players on an individual to individual basis and you might find a WR that it would be incredibly smart for a team to pick in the top 15

We have never drafted a good receiver
Its, true Jimmy Smith was signed. Our first round picks in past NFL drafts (WR) were Matt Jones, Reggie Williams and R.Jay Soward, we need to grab our Future star Receiver if we want Gabbert to develop into out franchise QB

what u all think?
I think we should totally draft a wide receiver first round i mean you are either going to get it right or your going to fail so if just blackmon is their or jeffery u take them and help gabbert out! I mean dont get me wrong if a great pass rusher is their then u take that but our JAGUARS really need a big threat receiver especially with how murlarkey likes to throw the ball and it would help out MJD with 8 men in the box and imagine how much that would open the offense up! Draft a wide out

Well we will not draft CB Dre from alabama he has now been arrested! We dont need anymore guys like reggie williams and matt jones on this team!

Actually...
It was terrible. The rest of his stats for the season was 38 catches, 629 yards, and 3 fumbles to go with his 10 touchdowns. I wouldn’t exactly call that top 10 worthy.
He got lucky and scored a bunch of touchdowns, but I’d put Jimmy Smith’s worst season (other than the inaugural one where he hardly played) with the Jags up against Reggie’s whopping 10 touchdowns any day.
Hungry for the deeeep
I am not worried how we do it but I want to see bookends Jeffery and Quick with Thomas underneath. I long for the goodold days. That is all gooo Jaggggs
I could get on board with that (Jeffery and Quick)
the only issue is, Rookies rarely produce right away, especially WRs, so that would be a little bit of a gamble to rest the success of the passing game on their shoulders.
….And Thomas is garbage.

So I added Michael Floyd to the charts comparing Crabtree and Nicks...
’College Final Stats Crabtree H.Nicks M. Floyd
Receptions 97 68 100
Yards 1,165 1,222 1147
TD’s 19 12 9
Games 13 13 13
So I added Michael Floyd to the charts comparing Crabtree and Nicks...

I thought it was interesting. He made a LOT of catches, despite everyone knowing he’d be the guy thrown too. That says a lot IMHO.
FYI those stats aren't perfect
The % of targets was based upon an ESPN number at week 8, but it was the best I could find for free. ;)
